102/102(*) Open Trails
10 Points for regular readers who can guess what
the significant detail in the Official Snow Report is that
makes today so very special in the ultimate stages of
Tremblant seasonal refinements and development.
When Groomed,
Though They Be Small,
Their Importance Be Huge.

Today is one of the top 5 utility highlight days of the entire season.
The ultimate stages of seasonal groomed trail refinements at Tremblant.
More below in Conditions Notes.
Weather Notes:
Easy winter temps with more natural snowfall... Excellent!
Conditions Notes:
We write about this specific occurrence every season for what
it means in the merits of applied technical trail development. We
refer to this phase as the ultimate, or final stages of seasonal
groomed trail refinements at Tremblant. For that reason we call
them(^) “Canaries In The Coal Mine”, which is an expression based
on the historical context that Miners would carry these small
birds into the mines because they were very sensitive to air
quality, far more-so than humans. Basically, the miners used
the birds as “Tell-Tales”, if they’re singing cheerfully, everything
is healthy, if they suddenly died, the miners knew there were
escalating levels of harmful air quality, and it was time for them
to escape before it could reach human levels of toxicity. The aspect
we’re concerned with is that over time, this expression has also
come to be synonymous with the recognition that any eco-system is
healthy, thriving, or optimal, when there is this figurative reference
to very small, positive, element that indicates a favourable status
within a far larger overall contextual reference.
(^)In this case, we recognize the signs of optimized grooming
refinements at Tremblant, i.e., “The Canaries In The Coal Mine”,
to be Versant Nord/North Side Trails # 64, 65, and 66, i.e.,
Marie-Claude Asselin, Banzai and Le Tunnel as those symbols
of ultimate seasonal grooming refinements that are, as trails
go, very small in square area, but symbolic of very big, and
very healthy Mountain significance because they are unsupported
by snowmaking and rely totally on Mother Nature for enough
natural snow to facilitate grooming.
For the very first time this season, we have grooming icons
for them, at least partially(#), on the Official Snow report.
What all this means in essence, is that if these trails can be
groomed, everything else on the entire Mountain is reaching
a very beneficial threshold of seasonal snowfall accumulation
that can accommodate this peak of developmental maturity.
((#) The grooming symbols are only shown for MCA and
Banzai, and as well, they indicate a dual status as they
are listed simultaneously with mogul symbols. This
can sometimes mean either top or bottom sections
of grooming, or that the narrow trails may be groomed
and the surrounding open Sous Bois zones are mogul’d,
especially when applied to Le Tunnel. We will need further
field reporting to accurately define which case it is.)
The added bonuses here are that when these small trails
get groomed, they are accessible to a X 10 larger population
of skill levels because they literally go from true Experts
only, very difficult Black Diamond skill level, to easy enough
to accommodate confident Intermediates, not to mention
that the scenery in these trail spaces is some of the most
naturally beautiful on the face of planet Earth. Those 2 facts
alone make this a very special day.
Bottom line on all this is that when these trails begin to get
groomed at this level of seasonal accumulation, everything
else, including the Sous Bois/Hors Piste, is excellent.
