It Looks Like We’re Going To Get Away With
One More Day Of Winter...

It did not get warm enough yesterday to melt
the snow out of the Summit level trees and
starting out at -9C up top, it's probably
going to be that way again today.

Super-fine performance is the overall forecast for
all skill level ranges, and so-far, this forecast extends
over all categories of open terrain including both
groomed and bush zone Sous Bois/Hors Piste.

Weather Notes:

One look at the extended forecast and you’ll clearly
be able to see...

Winter Switch Off, Spring Switch On...

Conditions Notes:

We’re definitely entering the “Oscillation Zone”...

That’s where the daily temp rages over Mountain
elevations tend to swing from daily highs that can
be just above Zero C, to overnight lows that can be
just below Zero C.

The mornings can be very “Firm”. The degrees of
groomed top layers that have good, loose, granular
finishes are directly related to the point in the night-shift
when the below zero C becomes well established. All
the grooming done after that has beautiful depth and
granularity. Inevitably, because of the vast expanses
of acreage, some of the immediate Apres Ski grooming
done before the froze-point, overnight freezes the corduroy
in place and that can take a little while to loosen up with the
new days sun or warmth.

Looking out the window at sunrise and seeing groomers on
Beauvallon and Nansen at 6:00 A.M. is the very best part
of expectations because with the temp’s well below Zero C
at that point, you know that terrain is going to have excellent
groomed performance right from first tracks.

One of the very best signs of overall Mountain conditions
quality is that there are no “Progressive” openings in the
Sous Bois category. This means that yesterdays warmth
was not enough to get into the bush zones to the point
that any overnight re-freeze made them initially unsafe.

We have no real idea how much Spring Break traffic
there could be. Yesterday saw some longer wait times
at the Sud/South Resort Base Gondola, but the odd
thing was that practically the entire day had very short
lines, sometimes no lines, at the Nord/North Base.
You might expect that pattern if it was a really cold day
and folks wanted to ride up in a warmer bubble, but
it was a warm day, so we have no idea why the traffic
was not more evenly divided. If that happens again,
staying Nord/North may be an option for more slope-time.

In casual local community observations what we see
is that there are fewer cars in overnight parking areas,
so that could mean a large portion of attendance are
day-trippers from regionally close-at-hand areas. If
that was the case, there might be reason to expect
some variation in daily traffic factors for subsequent
days.

they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
