By historic Opening Day standards, November 24, 2022
is truly an “Epic” day for both the number of open trails
and the square area of finished trail surface. It is not the
absolute record for Open Trails which we think was actually
set in Nov. 2019 @ 16(*) Open Trails, however, on the square
area dimensions, we think it would be extremely close.
One look at the Official Open Trail list is going to confirm
to any multi-year Tremblant regular that there is a spectacular
quantity of skiable terrain that in previous average years, we
might not see for a couple of weeks into any fresh season.
Here are some excerpts from the Official Tremblant sharable
social media video presentation for Opening Day:
The one thing not mentioned in the captioned video is the
Versant Sud/South Side lift service which includes the Gondola
and the TGV high speed quad chairlift, as well as the Resort
Base beginner zone magic carpet lift.
Please Note: Page under very gradual construct today
as we have multiple logistical startup items to sort
through. This is definitely one of those times when
you should stop reading anyway, and if you can, get
your butt to Tremblant ASAP.
Weather Notes:
Totally easy, and totally beautiful for a late Fall day.
How much closer could you get to “User Friendly” for
any Opening Day? We’re not sure, but this one sure
has a profile that makes being outside all day very,
very easy.
Moving forward, the weather forecast gets a bit complex
due to a crash occurring over Eastern North America
between a southerly wave of Polar Vortex coming in
across from the Nor-West, and a Texas Low coming
up diagonally from the Sou-West. We’ll have some
graphics on that to add tomorrow, but at the temp’s
currently anticipated here, there’s a very good chance
of more snowfall over cooler, higher Mountain elevations.
Conditions Notes:
One of the reasons there is so much open terrain today
is that there has been lots of natural snow(49cm’s) falling
for about the last 10 days in a row, combined with sub-zero
temps averaging somewhere around -5C to -7C. That
blessing from Mother Nature is going to be responsible
for a unique quality that is going to be perceived by most
opening day regulars as silky, smoother, finer, more
seamless and less granular than normal opening days
because there may be less blown snow in the mix than usual.
Don’t get the wrong idea though, there is still a lot of
blown snow which is totally necessary in order to cover
surface irregularities. This is especially necessary, for
examples, at the Summit, where there are protruding
rocky bits where summer pathways exist and need to
be appropriately buried under massive snowmaking
bumps in order to facilitate a hazard free, smooth,
groomed top running surface, and at the Versant Sud,
South Side Resort Base, where Trail #29, Johannsen,
down to the Gondola base, has a summer go-cart track
underneath, and similarly needs to be adequately covered.
And Of Course... blown snowmaking big bumps are the
foundational basis for quickly establishing a seamless trail
base over the main open descents this morning too. In this
way, all the rocks, stumps, voids and crevasses along trail paths
immediately get filled in and levelled out by grooming those
big bumps flat. A process that in the “good Old Days”, would
have taken weeks, is now the standard of first tracks.
The difference we think you’ll notice today though, is going to
be the definite, positive distinction that such a high ratio of the
natural snow component makes to the finished product.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
