12/5/22 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct At 10:21 P.M.

Basically, we got all the best case performance expectations
delivered in the actual experience, so it was a wonderful day
that reminds you just how lucky we are to be skiers at Tremblant.
Fabulous work by Mountain Crews! An excellent day to meet friends!

Here is a summary of the average snow surface trail performance
we had a Tremblant today...

On top of all the superb performance surfaces, it was
a phenomenally photogenic, magnificently scenic, gorgeous
early winter day winter day with super-easy temeratures
and not too much wind.

We were hoping to have time to get back to Sissy Schuss
and Fuddle Duddle for detail pic’s, but that turned out
to be not possible, so we’ll defer that to tomorrow.

For tomorrow, and Wed., could be a wee bit soggy, or...
at the current projected day-time highs at around +3C,
it could also be a wee bit snowy over higher Mountain
elevations.

25(*) Open Trails On Sud/South And Nord/North Sectors At #Tremblant .

The Newly Opened Versant Nord/North Side Lowell Thomas
Sector Terrain Is Smooth, Fast, Technical(#) Fun!

(#) See our “Conditions Notes” below for detail on the specific use of “Technical”.

Ongoing Snowmaking Operations:

Here is only one example, but a very good and desirable one,
Versant Sud/South Side Summit level trail # 18, McCulloch.

Check out the array of other snowmaking zones on the Official
list below as indicators of near-term future expanding open
terrain.

Conditions Notes:

(#)
The reason we’ve added “Technical” into our enthusiastic
appreciation of the Nord/North sector openings is because
the loose top layers are relatively shallow due to the recent
weather up/down normal late Fall characteristics, so you need
to be fluidly-smooth in the technical application of control and
directional moves in order to maintain optimal edge engagement.

If your control inputs are sudden, jerky or abrupt, you will most
likely instantly blow out of a carved radius into a side-slide skid
on the steeper pitches of the Black terrain sample pictured above
on trail # 69, Rigodon.

That’s fine if you want to do Parallel style turns, but for
a carved turn technique, even on the Blue’s and Green’s,
a smoothly, gradual, increase in the force you apply by
rolling your skis on to their edges progressively, is what
is going to facilitate the most reliable grip through any
contained radius arch.

The ski you see below is resting on the soft top layer,
and the arch you see closest to the ski, arching across
and above the tip, is revealing the base underneath.
It is not icy, it is just very densely packed snow that
may be slick if you have too much speed or dull edges,
otherwise, with tuned gear, there is a surprising amount
of grip, especially on lesser pitches. These soft top layers
may be double today, however that is still relatively shallow
so levels of carefully applied technique will be just as valuable.

What continues to amaze us is the overall default to trail
surface groomed smoothness, virtually across the board
of all open terrain. No one can do anything about the typical
Fall oscillations in weather patterns, but continuously groomed
smooth, makes anything/everything way, way easier to cope with.

Another huge asset for today is that it is Monday of a work/school
week, so attendance will be a fraction of the weekend traffic
and with the consequent lower volume of passage, there should
be far less demand on the trail surfaces, making for great all-day
performance durability.

For that specific reason, if you are able to allocate time for early
season ski conditioning and fitness, these mid-December weeks
are a wonderful opportunity to build muscle function with lots
of quality slope openings and very little traffic.

Yesterday we mentioned “shared skill level” trail use. Here’s
an example of that and what you need to keep in mind is the
absolute necessity of allowing extra-wide passing margins
in these areas.

Generally speaking concerning today compared to yesterday,
due to the sustained Sub-Zero C (@ -6 C), over the Mountain
last night, plus a second grooming cycle since refroze, there
should be a noticeable difference in the thickness of the loose
top layers that will be a functional increase in lateral grip
performance. “But”... it will still want that nice, smooth control
move input for best results, because the base beneath is very
firm so it is not difficult to displace the still relatively shallow
layers if you are using a lot of turning energy.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
