T360 Apres Midnight Apres Ski Quick Edit Update At 12:55 A.M.

Despite the base level temps bumping along
at close to Zero C, up on the Mountain it
was nicely mild winter all day at -6C, and
the skiing was very, very fine because of it.

The groomed continue to be the stars of the
show with an extraordinarily wide range of
impeccably prepared surfaces that easily
span all of open hours with virtually zero
loss of performance from use.

More on all in the morning, but if you’re
wondering about going tomorrow, don’t
waste a single second debating, just go
if you can.

See below for the original post for today,
we stand by our forecast expectations as
being fully realized.

Below is only one example, but a very good one, of near-flawless
grooming and very high performance surface preparation that
has 100% wall-to-wall, top-to-bottom, immaculate coverage
of universal consistency.

There is not so much as a spec of icy, or a single snowflake out
of place on Versant Nord/North Side Trail # 57, Devils River. Period.

As you can see, the sun and cloud were variable and in this case above
cloud shadowing generated a somewhat low contrast, however we can
tell you for a fact that the skiing experience here was superb. In a way,
it was like skiing on a golf course fairway, just a really steep one.

As an extension of both the smoothness and the pitch angle, we
would want to point out the suitability of this specific example
for confident Intermediates to safely step up challenge in a case
where there is such reliable grip and smoothness. The current
conditions here permit those with basic speed and stopping control
skills to take on more steepness but with a very forgiving surface
underfoot that will inspire both confidence and personal skill
learning development.

For those who want to access Devils River but find the Duncan
Summit pitch intimidating, the easy way down is to take Trail
# 67, Lowell Thomas Haut/Upper, down to the mid-point lateral
cat-track, turn hard right and traverse over to the Devils River
entrance on an easy flat approach.

Edge Sector Reopen:

We are pleased to report on the reopening of the Edge
Sector which has undergone mechanical repairs. The way
we understand the process, it was off-line yesterday for a
Doppelmayr Manufacturer’s Inspection and operational
upgrade which has apparently been completed successfully.
We were able to catch this scene across to the Edge Sector
Quad peak from the Summit Lowell Thomas zone and Crews
were busy putting the final touches on the system.

Well after Last Run, and as the sun is setting behind this side of the
Mountain, we were super excited to stage this shot below on the
fresh corduroy that you will have access to for the first time this
season. Massive amounts of blown snow have been banked into
this opening and we think there is a deliberate effort here to
inventory a great deal of depth to ensure reliable quality all
the way through to mid April.

Conditions Notes:

Until we get another big snowfall, conditions
favour the array of fresh and fully groomed
trails which are in spectacularly fine shape,
from side-to-side and top-to-bottom.

Virtually every run begs you to find the
limits of your own personal performance
capability and after running yourself out
of muscle enthusiasm, virtually every run
can be taken at leisure, relative to skill rating,
so there is tremendous versatility and forgiveness
within all groomed terrain.

The traffic has also been very light, so there are
corduroy lines that can still be found at last run.

These exact conditions are why we recommend
this mid-winter time period as tremendously high
value for those with discretionary planning capability.
If you are here now, you are watching and experiencing
the rapidly maturing fullness of the season. If you are
not here now, you want to make every effort possible,
or make a “note to self” to consider this time slot as
a future ski holiday target.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed,
there continues to be highly individualistic characteristics
that require careful, safe, low speed initial explorations.
Some wide open un-groomed have been skied out, some
Boreal Forest Hors Piste/Sous Bois have over a metre of
untracked powder lines still available. Consequently, the
range of conditions is highly variable in this group and as
long as you have the Expert technical skills, with patience you
can find interest and challenge, but it does take a willingness
to explore.
