The Answers To Your Questions.

Yesterday the Open Trail list changed 3 times.
We call those “Dynamic” conditions and when
that happens, like it could again today, the very
best source of up-to-the-minute Mountain Intel is:

Selecting appropriate terrain challenge, on trails
that are officially open, can be fully optimized
by consults with the super-friendly and very
knowledgable Info. Ski Crews, every run if
necessary. We speak to them every day for
updates and insights and you should too.

Otherwise and generally...

Back on February 7, we wrote:

"In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:
Until we get more natural snowfall, this will
continue to be the most sensitive group..."

This is exactly what you’re seeing now.

In the meantime, the performance within the groomed
array has been remarkably fine due to the combination
of shallow, soft top layers over a very supportive and
very firm and well frosted foundational base.

In this shot below, what you are seeing is actually
a Telemark Skier doing Alpine turn styles down the
right descending side of Versant Nord/North Side
Duncan Bas/Lower.

Sorry for the fuzzy bits but this is stop-action
photography and this person was quick! What we
want to focus on is the shred action that is very
clear under and along the ski length, as well as
the ambient degree of softness in the top layers
which is visible as sort of a chunky appearance
in the overall trail surface that is actually not chunky
at all, it’s remarkably smooth and controllable to ski
through and it has also been rocket fast.

The lateral grip turning forces possible here are
in excess of 1 lateral G for an athletically capable,
Expert Front-Side Carver.

For an average recreational skier the hallmark of
these conditions has been very high degrees of easy
control, forgiveness and exceptional natural speed.

Weather Notes:

Things are going to change tonight, evidently, back to winter.

Look closely at the overnight lows, those alone are going to
be a complete reset within the entire trail base, across all
categories.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

We suspect that today may be similar to yesterday
because there has not been a really hard reset to
the surface level frost, however, what is not fully
predictable is the complex scenario generated by
temps just at the Zero C mark, together with the
potential of cooler elevations. As a consequence,
there are actually a lot of wild-cards possible if
sub-zero’s are experienced up on the trail network.

We don’t think it’s cool enough, we think the very
slight by +1 degree C may be enough to carry
the surface softness forward for today only, but...
we could be wrong.

Even though the Official Report does not record it,
there was a dusting of snowfall overnight, especially
visible on Nord/North sectors. That may help with
the blended grooming product.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

See all above and correlate to Official List below.

Due to the number of “Progressive”(clock icons)
in the Official report below, it is possible the
Open Trail list could change, maybe even more
than once again.

Please Note: Today is “Super Bowl Sunday” and that typically
means the Mountain empties out around noon as rabid Football
Fans head for their home theatre big screen T.V.’s to drink
beer and get fat on nacho’s by the pound. With Official Open
hours now extended to 4:00 P.M. that’s going to potentially
mean a great afternoon of what can seem like a private club
of very low traffic. We could be wrong, maybe, but decades
of observation say that odd’s are it’s going to be a long, quiet,
easy afternoon.
