You May Need To Plan Extra Time
To Get To The Mountain...

Chalet Shovel Duty.

This chalet-side pic actually tells you a lot about
the dynamics that also act on the Mountain, lets
look at the detail as it exists as a microcosm.

mi·cro·cosm - Definition:
noun
A situation regarded as encapsulating in miniature
the characteristic qualities or features of something
much larger.

Firstly, there’s a big bunch of fresh snow.
Secondly, it shows the dramatic difference
that can occur in snowfall drifting deposits
in immediate proximity from Lee-side shelter
and wind-facing exposure. Look at the difference
between the snow on the car where it was sheltered
behind the chalet and the snow in the trees behind
the car where the wind was howling along an open
channel. These vast differences are occurring in this
sample with a 4 metre space. Scale that up to the
wind-facing frontal zones and the lee-side sheltered
zone of the Mountains sides and contours and you’ll
get the possibilities of the big picture.

Weather Notes:

Another cool day of authentic, clear, sunny winter where
it will seem a lot cooler in wind facing zones, a lot cooler
when descending with speed that generates an effective
headwind, but with the potential to feel some genuine solar
warming energy if you can find a quiet wind sheltered spot
for a safe rest stop in direct sunlight.

Looking forward... The 14 day long range shows a real mixed
bag of up’s/down’s but certainly is generally trending towards
spring. We consider the likelihood of consistent Sub-Zero C’s
over Mountain elevations during the overnights as a significant
stabilizing factor for ongoing base quality.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

We expect some degree of variability due to the
very brisk N-NW overnight wind direction that
could be seen pushing snow across the Summit
from the Nansen sector, towards the Duncan
sector. This should have generated deeper drifted
deposits over the Duncan and Soleil quadrants,
however, within that framework, there will likely
be Lee-side benefit of backfill along the edges
buffered by the descending tree lines. Look for
softer sides on the left of descending Duncan side
trails, and the right of descending Soleil side trails.

This wind generated side favour may also be present
on the right descending side of Nansen/Beauvallon,
however more likely to noticeable levels on the P’tit
Bonheur/Beauchemin and Lowell Thomas zones of
Versant Nord/North Side trails where the winds were
working to push snow over the Summit ridge to backfill
over and down into calmer, sheltered terrain.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

10 cm’s of overnight snow may have a profoundly
positive effect is select zones due to wind-shaped
drifting and backfill that could cause unique snowfall
deposits of double or more than the Official total.

Your Expert mission will be to explore with cautious
speed because the variable depths of free powder
snow may have undetermined rates of braking effect
in the deeper pockets, but you will not know that until
you hit them. Too much speed could easily cause a
forward ejection if your balance is unexpectedly upset.
Low speeds with a compact stance while slightly sitting
back over skis are practical ways to compensate.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
