As distinct from Astrological Spring,

It Is Meteorological Spring.

However, from the standpoint of
today and the near-term future of
Skiing, it is also Practical Spring...

Meteorologists and Climate Scientists prefer to use
Meteorological seasons over astrological seasons
because the number of days in Meteorological
seasons do not vary the way they do in Astrological
seasons and that makes statistical analysis easier
and more reliable.

Skiers and Snowboarders tend to think of Spring as
anytime when it gets so consistently hot out that the
snow becomes very soft and begins to thaw around
the trail edges. Looking at the long range 14 day
forecast, one might theorize we’d be looking at
spring conditions starting pretty much like right now.

Weather Notes:

The current weather debate includes, but is not limited to,
the influence of Le Nino and/or Global Warming as causations
of the influx of heat we are forecast to experience over the
present long range forecast. Normally we’d be experiencing
and looking forward to a lot more winter than this trend
indicates but here we are and what we can tell you for sure
is that we’re not going to be freezing cold.

If there are silver linings in this forecast outlook, it’s that
the majority of the overnight lows are Sub-Zero C, plus
there is amazingly no rain so those two things should be
at least partially be able to contribute to some trail durability.

We should also note that we are not alone, this high temp
anomaly is going to affect every square inch of Eastern
North America. We will be posting additional regional weather
forecasting context below.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

When conditions go from cold to warm there is
a direct correlation to increasing user-friendly
as softness works into the surfaces. This typically
evolves towards a sweet spot in the day that
represents a balance between natural speed
and soft forgiveness, before the heat works in
and generates any saturated hydro-drag.

It is possible that because the temps are low
to mid single digit plus C values that up on
trail elevations the sweet spot could actually
last all day.

Just in case...
For today and the foreseeable future, ski/board
base waxing for warm range snow temp’s will
be at the top of the list for optimized performance
in the eventuality that surface saturation levels
could generate friction.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste And Un-Groomed:

This trail group may well see the most dramatically
positive improvement as frozen bumps that go to
soft malleable bumps could completely change
the character of everything in these categories
in a few short hours.

There will still be hazards, lots of them, but
they should be far easier to navigate through
when the soft works in.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
