76(*) Open Trails.

T.G.I.F. More Snow, More Open Trails!

Weather Notes:

Winter makes a comeback... Cool to start with and due to a cold front
moving in, getting cooler as the day progresses.

The “kicker”, so-to-speak, is going to be the wind.

Pay attention to garment/outer shell closures, fasteners
and overlaps, BEFORE you go out the door. Attention to
small details will make a world of difference in all day
warmth retention.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Noticeably higher levels of overall refinement in select
zones as the consequence of another grooming night-shift
over yesterdays significant snowfall accumulations which
should now have greater degrees of uniform density within
the wide open boulevards. We mention “select” because
the more direct wind facing zones may have less accumulations
and should be easier for entry level skill sets.

As another 15cm’s of snow fell, there may still be zones
of softness where the wind made for abundant deposits
around topographical features where depths could have
backfilled considerably more than the official total.

Typical of a multi-day snowfall, Experts are going to
have fun everywhere, but Beginners and Intermediates
absolutely need to start with easy, and work up as the
ability to remain under speed and stopping control can
be safely maintained with increasing challenge.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

Big snow means big fun in all newly re-openings.
However... It is still only January 3, not February 3,
so even with all the new snow, the coverage over
some natural features that may include rock or wood,
is still relatively shallow. For that reason, Experts in
the bush are encouraged to descend with low speeds
that can facilitate instant pivots, stops, hops, or jumps
to navigate irregular substrates or outright logs, fallen
trees or boulders.

Beware Snow Camo Zones.... all the things mentioned
above can contribute to shallow early season snow camo
covering solid objects that could be in your path. That big
soft looking ridge of snow in front of you could actually be
a horizontal fallen tree with a deceptively complete snow
coverage. Approach all surface lumps ’n bumps with
extreme caution.

Archival Copy Of Official Daily Message:

Bonjour Tremblant! Happy Friday skiers and snowboarders!
Come enjoy the 29 cm of snow that fell in the last 48 hours.
With a skiable area of over 594 acres available today, Mont
Tremblant Station offers you an uncomparable experience.
Our 4 sides are open thanks to our mountain operations
teams who have worked hard to offer you a wide variety of
trails, including terrain suitable for all levels. Please also note
that due to the ongoing snow making, snow conditions are
variable and visibility is affected in some areas of the mountain.
Therefore, exercise extra caution on the slopes. Have a great
day, and we look forward to seeing you at the summit.
