1/9/25 #Tremblant Conditions

------------ T360 Late Evening Apres Ski Edit At 11:07 P.M. -----------------

There was, at least for a while, blue sky over parts of Tremblant today,
but we were wrong on some of our conditions forecast.

How we were wrong was that we underestimated the effects
of the wind that were far more pervasive than we imagined.

The very high velocity wind was erosive to variable degrees
over the entire Mountain footprint, but in seemingly random
fashion. La Griffe was icy patched, but adjacent Fuddle Duddle
Haut/Upper, was fine. The Summit was virtually impossible
to take pic’s, it was pea-soup foggy, with a vicious, bitterly
cold howling wind. P’tit Bonheur was far calmer but it had
an icy flow in mid-decent. It was a day of stark contrasts
and high demand challenge.

There were some very fine zones, but there were a lot of
icy zones and you really had to be alert no matter where
you were.

These were conditions way outside human control and
under the most powerful hand of Mother Nature. Not
a single thing you could do but adapt as best as possible
to the glitches and find and enjoy the sweet spots.

As the temps rise and the winds diminish, Mountain
Crews really have their work cut out for them tonight.
We think it could take a couple of days to even things
out although it is very important to note that there
are great conditions even now, but it takes a commitment
to cautiously, safely explore with a slow speed bias to
discover them.

Your Very Best Friends On The Mountain Today...

When Conditions Are “Dynamic”, There Is No Better Source Of
Mountain Intel Than The Tremblant Info. Ski Crews. Period.

Things can be changing on a run-by-run basis today
and it is essential for optimized utility that you have
the best and latest trail and lift updates from the
Info. Ski Crews. The best place to find them is at the
Summit Gondola offload zone, but you can approach
them anywhere you see them on the Mountain. They
are “Radio Controlled” so no matter where you find them,
they will be able to direct you, or get you answers.

Weather Notes:

Warmer, but still windy. As a matter of fact, it might
be the peak of the windy part of this currently active
system as the forecast indicates a spike in velocity
mid-day, followed by substantial, steady reduction
in wind as we move forward.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Continued very fine to excellent in all ranges of
freshly groomed, especially due to the low traffic
yesterday that had a minimal wear component.

There can still be very noticeable differences
between surface characteristics in frontal wind
facing sides versus lee-side wind sheltered sides
however favourable areas for your skills should
be quickly apparent in patterns that you can
identify.

The most pronounced slick or icy bits may be
on some of the steeper wide open pitches,
just at and below crests where the wind tends
to move loose snow off into the bush as traffic
passes over.

On Versant Sud/South Side trails look for soft
snow buildup on the left descending trail sides
in the lee of the tree lines for the best traction.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

Continued favour particularly within upper Nord/North
and Edge sectors where calmer winds behind the shelter
of the Summit have tended to generate a swirling
backfill into the tree-buffered Sous Bois surfaces.

Generally:

We might expect to see one or more changes to the Open trail
list today due to evolving conditions. We’re not sure whether
those changes would be up or down, but when Nansen Bas/Lower
is shown as closed, there’s definitely something unusual going on.

It is possible that changes may happen that don’t make it
to the Official Data record before there are even more changes
happening, that is why....

Today is exactly the kind of day that you want to be consulting
with the Tremblant Info. Ski Crews frequently as the dynamics of
open terrain and/or lift operations during the day could change
literally on a run-by-run basis.

Archival Copy Of Official Daily Message:

Bonjour Tremblant! Due to the presence of strong winds
and reduced visibility, trail count and lift operations may
change during the course of the day. Please note that due
to high winds and heavy snowfall in the upper portion of
the mountain, no easy trails are available from the summit
for the South side today. We invite you to visit this webpage
regularly to stay up to date with the last changes.
