3/6/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

.
T360 Late Evening 11:15 P.M. Apres Ski.

The Temperature is currently -17 C and is forecast to rise through
the night to -14 C, take a quick dip back to -17 C just before Sunrise,
then climb to -14 C by 8:00 A.M and ultimately rise to -1 C by Mid-Afternoon.

Wow… what a Thermal Ride!
… from -32 C to -1 C in 36 Hours!

The Skiing/Boarding will be Excellent All Day Tomorrow. If the forecasted
Sunshine happens, surfaces may begin to soften by 2:00 P.M., but the Coverage
will remain 100%!

Well, at least it’s Sunny, even if it is -32C @ South Resort Base Level.

The Skiing and Boarding are continued at Excellent because of
the Overnight low that renders superb Freeze Dried Snow.

For those that use Multiple Source Weather Data, there is a wee bit
of contradictory info. early this morning. This is not usual. See Notes.

Looking above at the “Record Low”, it’s interesting to note that these types
of records are typically made/broken by fractions of a degree, so to see the
record tumble by 7 degrees C is a huge margin of statistical unlikelihood,
just about as unlikely as the occurrence of the “Record Low” following
in the consecutive year after the “Record High"!

To dress appropriately for this morning is going to make you Hot
by the time the Temp Rises to it’s forecasted high of-8 C by shortly
after lunch.

It will only seem very cool when you are moving. Standing in a
Sunny spot on say, Devils River, Versant Nord, the North Side,
even right at this early moment, there will be perceptible Solar
Heat Energy in any direct rays. As the Earth tilts on it’s axis
towards “Spring”, the more perpendicular line the rays take through
the atmosphere now are capable of heat generation regardless of
ambient air temps., as long as there is no or little wind, as is the
case on Devils River right this early minute.

Speaking of “Record Breaking”, here’s another category that will be close…

The Number Of Days Of Pure Winter Snow Surface Conditions.

One of the finest examples of Top-to-Bottom, Open-to-Close
Quite Near Perfect Every Single Day Snow Surface Quality on Planet Earth…
P’tit Bonheur, Versant Nord, the North Side @Tremblant.

This Season currently shows a high probability of being similar to last
Seasons extraordinary run of Pure Winter Alpine Snow Sport Surfaces
that ran from Opening Day, right up to Last Run on Closing Day.

Two Winters, Back-to-Back of exceptionally stable Snow Conditions are
the likelihood now, based on where we’re at, plus the long range forecast
as shown and discussed above.

Below: The Razor Sharp Carving potential shown here on P’tit Bonheur
has been almost universally available on all Tremblant’s Groomed Terrain
this Season and if the weather stays on Winter Track, it will continue
this way till Season's Last Run.

“Old Timers” will remember entire decades, like the 1970’s that seemed as cold,
but the HUGE DIFFERENCE is the Surface Quality that we have now that just
plain and simply did not exist at the levels of Smoothness and Glitch Free Excellence
that we are used to now.

If you were born anytime after 1980, you will not be able to relate.

If you Skied Tremblant(or anywhere else) in the 1970’s or earlier, you
will be able to appreciate why we are so positive about Conditions at
Tremblant now. It’s a fact that Surface Quality on a reliable, everyday
basis is 1000’s of % better with current Snowmaking and Grooming
Technologies… All Day … Every Day.

We have written here before, because it is very true, that Runs like Expo
are built and opened in less than a week, and Start Day 1 and go to
“Last Run” at Surface Qualities that we never saw in entire Seasons back in the day.

It needs to be stated that while we report on Tremblant Specifically,
for the benefit of future Global readers here, the Winter of 2013/14 is a
statistical anomaly that ranks as one of the 30th coldest winters
in over 170 years of Regional Record Keeping.

The Cold has been caused by unusually Southerly dips in the Arctic Polar
Vortex and affected much of the North American Continent East of the
Rocky Mountain Range and as far South as Florida, U.S.A., for the last
12 weeks or so.

An excellent example of North-Eastern North American Regional affects
is recent Environment Canada Stat’s that show Winter Ice Coverage
in the Great Lakes Basin, Planet Earth’s Largest Fresh Water System,
is 227.5% greater in Lake Surface Ice Coverage than any of the past 5 winters.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
