Less Than 24 Hours Ago We Wrote:
“The worst of it is already over, and... every day, including tomorrow
morning, will see Substantial Daily Improvements.”
Tremblant’s Recovery from the recent “Warm” to “Cool” cycle
is well and truly underway...
Versant Nord, the North Sides “Devils River” is a prime example of a
huge functional increase in traction and grip over yesterday.
If it is groomed again tonight, it will see a similar degree of Quality increase
tomorrow as well.
The Improvements from yesterday to today are indeed, Substantial.
Carving Capability went up about 500% over yesterday’s icy.
There was still a very firm to icy base underneath much of the Loose,
Recovered top layers, but... with careful, sensitive inputs, good technical
Skiing/Boarding fundamentals were rewarded by decent Grip and Traction.
Once again, and typical of these kinds of Warm to Cold Weather Transitions,
a “Back To Basics” approach using solid, correct and deliberately applied core
elements of Contained Speed, Braking, Carving, Parallel Turning, Centred Balance,
a Compact Athletic Stance, Firmly Supported Gradual Edge Sets and any other
forms of Gently Exerted Control you can think of, gets you a most enjoyable day.
No Jamming Please! Jammers... those not capable of “Sensitivity” in the
application of Technique are going to have more difficulty in maintaining
control.
Speed Regulation is Absolutely Critical for BOTH
Safe Levels of Traction and Traffic Navigation.
It’s The Christmas/New Years Holidays! Expect to see lot’s of people out!
On top of that... there are Beginners and Folks new to the area that are
not familiar with the place yet and they may make sudden changes in
course or speed without any warning what-so-ever.
On Top of, On Top of That...
There’s a lot of active daytime Snowmaking that
can make Vision a Problem in certain sectors...
Bottom Line for All Skill Levels on all this...
Go Gently, with Firm Control and you will have Fun, Plus... the
satisfaction and rewards of applied skills that master technically
challenging(in an Easy Way) Ski/Board conditions.

After Yesterday’s Icy...
Here is the Main Reason Tremblant will see a Huge Improvement in Surfaces Today:
Big Teeth ... Tremblant360 File Archive
The Big Teeth Pictured Above are attached to a 12,000 Lbs. Grooming/Packing Machine
and Technically are called a “Tiller”. They are Hydraulically driven at very High RPM
chewing into the Icy Surfaces Mother Nature created with dropping temps yesterday.
They are a very hard Carbide Steel and if you look closely, you can see the outboard
edge of each tooth has a concave notch in it creating two pointed cutting surfaces
that can make very short work of Grinding any Icy surface they encounter.
Attached to the Machine, the whole assembly looks like this:
While the Tiller’s Teeth pulverize “Icy” into Snow Dust... another significant component
in the process is alluded to in the above statement “Attached to a 12,000 Lbs. Machine”.
A close look at the Track Cleats running across each Track Belt show that those Cleats
do Double Duty. Not only do they give the machine forward Traction, but they also
contribute to the initial fracturing of the Icy surface as the weight of the Groomer
bears down on top layers it passes over.
Mountain Crews will have been out all night working the surfaces to provide
all Skill Levels with vastly better Ski/Board Terrain this morning and with the
stability of Cool Winter Temp’s returning, every morning from now forward will
also see incremental increases in Quality as repeated exposures to the “Big Teeth”
generate finer and finer, as in smaller and smaller, particle sizes.
While “Cold” Trumps all other Winter Variables, after all snow can not exist without it,
it sure would be nice if Mother Nature decided to contribute some Fresh Snowfall too.
The current forecast is showing Snow for Thursday, January 1st. and if that was
the case, it would indeed be a “Happy New Year”!
Soleil Sector Open.
Yesterday was Day 2 for the Soleil Sector and the main Descent is Toboggan
which is an Excellent choice. One of the most Fun Runs in the Tremblant Trail
Inventory!
Weather Spec’s for Today:
Starts out Sunny and -12 C at South Resort Base Levels. Winds are Moderate to Strong
and from the Nor-West, so crossing the Summit from McCulloch towards Lowell Thomas.
The Daytime high expected is -8C, but it feels cool enough outside that we
would not be surprised if the Thermometer did not make it all the way up there.
After getting used to the Warmer Side of Early Winter it will seem very cool by
comparison this morning and you will need to pay extra attention to Garment seals
and overlaps to optimize comfort. Even small gaps or openings can allow cold
air migration inside your exterior envelop and with the forward Speed of Skiing
or Boarding, the cold air that can get into those tiny gaps can make you feel
refrigerated quite easy, so paying attention to those details makes a huge difference.

T360 Team Members Field Reporting: Conditions definitely improved
with Traction and Carve quality coming back, but Base still very firm.
