December 2014 may go into the Tremblant History Books as a mixed
month of Pure Fall and Pure Winter in a sequence that was not always
predictable, but non-the-less, a month that saw a steady rise in Open
Terrain and additional Sectors.

The latest Sector Opening, Soleil was a noteworthy achievement because
of the adaptations Mountain Crews had to put in place to Blow Snow
with warmer temps than the Permanent Snowmaking allows. The results
have been generally well received by Soleil Fans and we agree that
it’s a great asset to have Toboggan on the Open Trail List, just for the
sheer fun of it!

The Snow on Toboggan is quite a fine, dust-like small particle and
we found a considerable level of Carving Grip along it’s length that
kept us smiling for the whole descent.

The pitches on Toboggan can and did grow some fair sized Moguls by
the end of the day, but as long as your speed coming over their crests
was not excessive, they were easy for Experts to handle, and there were
also some very sweet lines down the edges of the trail where a lot of the
softest Snow was pushed to.

We’ll have more on current conditions in the morning, but for now, we wish all
that are Celebrating the New Year a safe return Home tonight!

49(*) Open Trails on South, North, Edge and Soleil at #Tremblant.

It’s quite cool this Brilliantly Sunny morning, at a rough repeat of Yesterday’s
Morning Summit temp of -24 C, so Layers Rule when it comes to Early Comfort.

Today’s South Base Daytime High temp should reach -11C and with Moderate Sou-Westerly
breezes crossing the Summit from Soleil towards Lowell Thomas, there should be
Solar Energized Quiet, Safe, Wind Sheltered Trail-Side spots to both regain some
warmth and snap off some of those World Famous Tremblant Panoramic Pic’s!

Versant Nord, Expo Quad Sector, La Griffe.
This yesterday Trail Sample was one of the surprisingly good Carving
traction zones on the North. Even though Machine settings may be
the same, for some reasons, some trails just respond very positively
to Grooming in a way that results in comparatively better performance.

Another Over-Night Grooming Cycle should definitely even out some of the
surface depths to a more performance oriented consistency across the range
of Skill Levels. Please be advised that there are Naturally Occurring Glitches
caused by the Overwhelming Forces of Nature, but they tend to present themselves
in Recognizable Patterns or Zones that can be very successfully traversed
using basic, sensible cautions.

Weather Models that have predicted the possibilities of significantly large
amounts of Snowfall have changed quite a bit since Mid-Night last. We reported
the potential of up to 45 CM’s as was indicated in the supporting Graphic
posted with last eve.’s Apres Ski and despite our best wishes, those potentials
have been reduced.

Fear not though, because the two things all the Weather Models agree on is that
temps are going to rise, and there is a System forming over the North Eastern
portion of the Continent that will produce some Snow. We have faith based on
experience that Tremblant could still get a substantial Natural Snowfall due
to its Topographical Contours that can produce very healthy accumulations
on the Mountain itself, regardless of what the Up’s ’n Down’s of forecasting
may say for Base Levels.

Even though there has been less Snow from Mother Nature than we would like
to have seen from her, at least we have had the benefit of cool enough temps
for Mountain Crews to make and distribute a lot of Blown Snow that has brought
us to this Mornings Open Trail Count, and we are eternally grateful for all that effort.

The Ski/Board Conditions continue to be “Technical”, in the sense that with any
Base conditions that include Very Firm and/or Icy components, fundamental
elements of control in Braking, Speed and Directional Control remain top priorities
in safe, accident free passage. Holiday Guest Numbers absolutely require extra
consideration for those around you when Navigation in close proximity to others
is unavoidable.

The Easiest General/Overall Quality of Conditions at Tremblant right now is Smoothness.

Anyone who was present last season for the Edge Sector Opening will recall the
un-groomed state it started as. This year is a remarkable difference and it’s a wonderful
but very firm base example of Smooth.

There is nothing anyone can do when Mother Nature goes from Above Freezing to
Below Freezing in such a big way, but what Mountain Crews have done to ease
the consequences of that, is to Flatten Out as much as possible so there are
minimal Lumps or Bumps to interfere with your progress and that allows all
Skill Levels to focus on the subtle edging skills that get the best response from
tuned gear.

It may go without saying, but we have to anyway... Going Skiing or Boarding
Anywhere in Eastern North America right now without Tuned Edges is like
bringing a Pea-Shooter to a Gun-Fight. If your Ski/Board Holiday is coming up soon,
either get your gear tuned before you arrive, or on the Eve. of your arrival, whip
your Skis/Board into Le Ski Shoppe at Tremblant’s South P1, Cabriolet Base
Chalet Des Voyageurs for just about the Best Ski/Board Tuning Bargain in the
Civilized World. The Discount Price on their Over-Night Service is Crazy Good
and the WinterSteiger Tuning Equipment they use is arguably the best on Earth.

We are not sponsored by them, we just respect the quality of the work performed
based on Experience and Results and we have no problem what-so-ever on that
basis in fully recommending them. If you have special needs in your tuning
preferences, they are very willing to work with you on a custom basis too.

There were some “Issues” reported yesterday concerning Safe Vision
as you descended on Soleil.

All we can say there is that the Permanent Snowmaking on Soleil
requires about -18C to function, so when the temp gets down there,
Crews have prioritized Snow Production, and for yesterday that included
day-time. If you end up in a Snowmaking Zone, there’s not much
you can do other than slow down for both safety and to reduce Goggle
lens exposure.

At these temp’s it can be difficult to remove Goggle icing, so the best way
we’ve found to remove it is the flat palm of your warm hand with a single
sideways swipe that effectively melts ice and squeezes off the water.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
