This is an Important Pic. Above, for a number of reasons.

First of all, Fresh Snow. We all know that Fresh Natural Snow is the
top priority of all Winter Alpine Snow Sport Participants, so it’s arrival
is a most welcome event, especially after the recent Warm period that
ended just a few days ago.

Secondly, More Fresh Snow, particularly this early in the season, contributes to
accumulations of Base that may allow additional Trail Openings. In our sample above,
the Trail pictured, “Andy Moe”, is currently closed, BUT.... with the very apparent
depth on New Snow seen here, this Trail can logically be speculated on as closer
to re-opening.

Thirdly, what we refer to as “Blowing and Drifting Factors” are the variable dimensions
of Snowfall distribution over the Mountain that are almost as unique as fingerprints due
to combinations of Wind Direction, Speed, Humidity, Temperatures, Barometric Pressure,
Natural Land Contours, etc.. These Factors result in Accumulations in some areas that
may be far greater than the Statistical Base Level Totals. This Pic. above definitely shows
accumulations that are larger than many other Mountain Sectors today. That leads us to
the other side of the coin, some areas get less accumulation due to Wind Velocity and
Broad, Flat Expanse Exposure where wind literally blows all the new snow into the bush.

In todays circumstances, the Summit was suffering the most wind exposure
and that did not impact the Skiing too much, so in our experience in the Sectors
we skied, Blowing and Drifting were almost universally beneficial to surface quality.

Fourthly, in terms of Winters “Ambience” there’s no doubt Snow Covered Tree Boughs
and Snow covered Forest Zones near and far all contribute to the beauty and the
“Feel” of Winter that enhance the Spirit of the Ski/Board Vacation Experience.

The Snowfall was distinctly different in Sliding/Gliding qualities between
Mountain Sectors today, perhaps more noticeably than usual. Typically,
if New Snow is “Fast”, it’s “Fast” everywhere, but today for some reason,
there was a definite forward resistance, i.e. “friction”, underfoot on some
North Terrain, while Soleil and Beauvallon Bas, Lower were both noted as
Faster, or having less surface resistance.

There would certainly be no harm in Waxing or Coating Ski/Board bases with
appropriate Temp Range material to facilitate better Glide. We suspect that would
be a very useful assist to Boarders who might otherwise need to take a foot out
to traverse some plateaus that Skiers can Skate across.

A Rapid Accumulation of New Snow can take from one to three days to integrate
into the base, depending on how much ended up over the different Sectors. Deeper
deposits can be demanding for beginners especially, as the muscles are new to the
Sport and controlling Skis/Boards in deeper Snow sometimes just needs more
strength to overcome what some call the “Heaviness” or weight of New Snow
to push or lift against. Our observations over the years have shown that “Green”,
“Easiest” Terrain is very high on Grooming priority, so we think the Upcoming
Weekend will see good refinement on P’tit Bonheur and Nansen as well as where-ever
else the Mountain Data Shows Grooming Icons.

Soleil Sector Toboggan earns a “Best Of Season So Far” notation
with a substantial advancements in groomed smoothness refinement
as well as user friendly snow particle size, texture and uniformity.

More in the morning, but we stand by our earlier assessment that Surface
Conditions were getting better by the hour.

Tomorrow Weather: SUNNY !!! Daytime High, Super Easy -9C !!! Nice!

12.31.14 “Last Run”, P’tit Bonheur Surface Sample
and Base for All This Currently Falling Snow .

No... it’s not a Super-Fancy Action Shot, nor any kind of “Extreme” Skiing, but...
this very quiet, peaceful scene on Versant Nord, the North Side, P’tit Bonheur
provides us with numerous and important clues to the overall conditions and the Base
for the New Snowfall at Tremblant right now.

1) Loose Top Layer Surface Snow of Very Fine, as in small, Icing Sugar-like crystals
retained around the Skis and distributed fairly evenly over all the surface with
larger accumulations on the 3 or 4 metres of each outboard side of this Trail.
There is sufficient Loose Top Layer to carve turns almost everywhere on this
Trail, but longer/wider Traverse’s may be necessary while looking forward to
anticipate any obvious bare spots over the Base(see #2)

2) If you look to the Left of the Ski Tips, you’ll see the faint pattern of Groomer
Track Cleats which is the Smooth, but very firm(even Icy if you do not have
sharp edges), Base being revealed, which has been shaved as smooth as a
Ballroom Dance Floor by Ski/Board Traffic.

3) Continuing on with “Smooth” for a moment, this entire Trail is so Smooth
that it represents one of the best, easiest learning environments anywhere
in the known Ski World. Combined with the very Gradual flowing pitch of this
Trail, it provides very close to perfect conditions to experience and experiment
with Gravity and Control Inputs in a very safe manner for Beginners and
Intermediates and allows even Experts the opportunity to refine the most
Subtle Nuances of Edge Control.

4) Looking directly above the Tails of the Skis to the Trail edge(right) you can
see the arch of a Carved Edge Turn Track made by these way old, but very sharp
edged Atomic SL9 Slalom Skis that track like they are on Rails... even across
the “Firm” Base.

5) If these are the Typical Underlaying Base Conditions, and they are...

How Excellent Will Tremblant Be With All This Fresh New Snow Falling !?!?!?!?!

The Existing Base we talk of above will provide an Excellent Foundation
for the addition of all the New Snow and Ski/Board Surface Quality is literally
Improving by the Hour.

Weather Notes:

Absolutely Stunningly Beautiful Snowy Day at Tremblant. Variable size Snowflakes
falling lazily straight down, sometimes breezed, but Very Very Fine Natural Snow.
Daytime high at -6C... Super Easy, Super Wonderful, New Years Day!!!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
