1/4/15 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Middle Of The Night-Shift Apres Ski...

This early Mornings Fresh Snowy Conditions was definitely a...

“Limited Time Offer” on behalf of Mother Nature.

In these two shots below using “Lowell Thomas” Haut, just below
the Summit, you can see not only the tracks in the Fresh Snow,
but it provides an example of what we talk about below with Drifting
accumulations in areas that exceed the Stat. Totals.

There were occasional drift lines of up to mid-30’s CM’s.

The Third Shot here, was were we wanted to illustrate additional Drifting
Support Illustrations, however, this section was closed by the time we
got there, so if it’s Open Tomorrow, we’ll try to get back for a look at
the mid-point of Bansai and Marie-Claude Asselin.

Surfaces started out quite Smooth, but in the course of the day became
not only warmer, but developed a Ripple-Like, quite shallow wavy pattern
that was a bit of a challenge to find a rhythm through.

The Best Outright Cruising Quality Award Goes To Nansen.

No Ripples, Just straight-up Smooth, Flat Surfaces that held good Speed,
Grip and Traction all day long.

It was one of those days that with the temp so close to Zero, it could have gone
either way, and it ended up Freezing Rain and then raining fairly hard on
the South Base, with a background of Foggy Bands passing through in
variable intensity.

Precipitation up on Mountain Elevations was more of a Sleety/Frozen Pellet
than anything else. We did not personally experience any hard rain while
Skiing through to Last Run.

Despite the warmer than wanted, it’s very important to note that the New Snow
will absolutely and positively contribute to the Base. Grooming/Packing all this in
is going to even out some contours and provide a great foundation for
Mother Natures next Snowfall.

Things could have been Much Worse, a lot worse and the fact that we were lucky
enough to only have a few hours of warm by 1 degree(at South Base Levels, not
on the Mountain) should be taken as a blessing when compared to some of the much
warmer winds/rain exposures that occurred just to the South of Tremblant.

As it was, the worst of the Logistical Problems was the closure of the North Base Lifts
just after lunch. Busses trekked people back South and from then on, Lowell Thomas
was the sole North Access.

We ended up with the Trusty Descente Poncho on and other than “Wet Lens”
syndrome and very flat grey light Pic. challenges, for us, the Skiing was Fast
and the Shredding was fun.

It was also a Yellow Lens Day and with relatively warm, foggy air around,
Safety Glasses worked perfectly to provide restored contrast and more
than adequate Clear Forward Vision, so Goggles were left behind.

As previously mentioned, the weather passed over in Bands of Alternating
Clear/Foggy, but some sectors, like Soleil shown here below, seemed to
remain fairly Clear.

Temp’s dropped like a rock at about 7:30 P.M. and are now -16 C. Tomorrow’s
supposed to be Sunny but after todays “Warm” tomo’s early -19C may present
some Icy Challenges, so bring your edges and enjoy the views!

There will be many, many places where Blowing and Drifting
Factors will generate Sector Snow Depth totals that EXCEED the Stat’s.

Go Now.

------------- End of 3 Point Utility Advisory ----------------------

More later...

Weather Notes: Super Snowy White Winter Mild with Mountain Temps
from about -4 to -1C... so far. There is a risk of Rain, but we feel and hope

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
