We take a small satisfaction from being right on our speculation
this morning, and...

We Might Look At This Picture Every Day For The Next 10 Years
And Not Get Tired Of The Memories Of This Best Day Of The Season So Far.

Absolutely the Best Day Of The Season So Far. Period.

We had every good reason to expect that today might be “The Best Day Of The
Season So Far”.

We’ve been calling for, and hoping for, a significant Orographic Precipitation Event,
and/or Lee Side Drifting, and we got it.

There were traversing Drift Lines toping over 40 CM’s within the Lowell Thomas
Summit Sector.

From a performance standpoint, it is High Friction Very Cold Formed Snow
which is almost perfect for keeping control easily on Steeper Pitches like
Marie-Claude Asselin Bas, Lower.

It was, and still is... cold, really freekin’ cold, but in another odd twist of Natural
Phenomenon, where the pic above was taken, there was not so much as a breath,
a whisper, a faint movement, any air motion at all... flat dead calm, and it felt warm,
all while you could hear the wind howling through the Summit Comm. Tower.

Had fingers exposed there for over 4 minutes snapin’ pic’s, no problem.

Nowhere else was like that. With even the slightest breeze, let alone the
Jet Blast across the Summit, fingers could only be in Open Air for 15-20 Seconds
before registering Pain from Cold Shock everywhere else we went.

At Expert Level, the Skiing was Fabulous, like playing in big rolling waves
of Cotton-Batton, sometimes almost up to your Knees.

It was not like that everywhere. We are describing a “Sweet Spot” that just
happened to be maybe 30-40 Acres big, big enough to want to spend the bulk
of your day in it, while for the most part, not crossing your own tracks.

Unless you also found our Sweet Spot, or one similar, it was Super Windy, and
Super Cold, but it was also a Super Winter Day with remarkably Fine Expert Powder
Snow Lines that by the end of the day, left you weak in the knees with desire
for one more run.

Rising up over Expo’s Peak, you felt the full force of the driven wind...

Dry Desert Sand/Snow Wind Shaped Surface Patterns.

Above: Wow... hard to believe that further up the Mountain, the quiet solitude of
the inner Summit sectors could have such little wind when the obvious Wind Velocity
Induced Surface Shaping was going on to such an extent here.

Tomorrow... Operation Code Name “Deep Freeze”...

It’s bitterly cool out tonight and we think the projected low @ -29 C has a good chance
of being blown away, Literally and Figuratively through the long, cold hours ’til dawn.

Once again, it was very impractical for Photography today. We only took camera out
where we did not risk personal Frostbite injury, so there were precious few times
that with Open Jacket and Bare Fingers we got what we were able to.

72(*) Open Trails on the Overnight Snowy 4 Sides of #Tremblant.

Last eve. we speculated that today may well have some “Best of Season”
surfaces this morning. That guess-timate will ultimately be answered only
by confirming Field Work to document the work of both Mountain Crews
and Mother Natures Night-time Snowfall. We still think it’s a good possibility.

Tremblant.ca’s Official Stat. is 11CM’s or just around 4 inches. Distribution
of the new Snow will have been shaped into deposits of more and less
around Geographical Contours due to Wind, so there could be some very
interesting Powder accumulations that we hope to find.

The fact that the “Open Trail Count” Jumped from 60 to 72 is ample evidence
in it’s own right, particularly when it includes two very significant “Canaries in
the Coal Mine”, 2 Trails Not Supported by direct snowmaking that when “Opened”
reflect an overall increase in the quantity and quality of Sector Snow.

Those two Trails are:

Versant Nord, the North Side, Banzai and Marie-Claude Asselin.

In our opinion, you Know It’s A Good Day When These Two Trails Are Opened.

General Conditions ...are going to be a mix of highly variable Fresh
Snow thickness, depending on how Mother Nature has shaped the deposits with her
Breezes, but Mountain Crews should have Groomed out vast expanses of Green and
Blue rated Terrain.

We think that with all the new snow in that Grooming(plus the fact that the hard freeze
was 3 days ago, so there are the previous days Grooming efforts that had incrementally
already refined surfaces), the net effect today could be very, very good.

Weather Wise:

Opposite of what normally happens, the temp’s will be dropping significantly
during the day and that process has already begun as the dominant Arctic Air
mass reasserts its presence over Eastern North America.

Severe Cold Weather Alerts have been declared over much of the Eastern Side
of the Continent and there will be no escaping, so why not dress warmly and Ski
some very fine Snow Surfaces with their wonderful, unique performance.

We LOVE Squeaky Cold Snow. The traction and control allow surgical precision
in Carving and the grip is so reliable that you can concentrate on refining your
best Skill Level efforts.

The Wild Card in the Weather is the Wind Velocity and Direction.

There may be sufficient Wind Speed, Gusts and Directional Shift that could cause
Lift Interruptions, so please be understanding if they do. That may never happen,
but the forecasted strong Nor-West winds are expected to peak at just after
lunch so at that point coming up the Mountain over Alpine and Nansen, then moving
towards Duncan, and the possibility exists that they could cause safety issues.

The real and practical affect for Tremblant Guests is that careful attention
to Outer Garment Seals, Overlaps and Zero Exposed Skin will be critical
elements of comfort that will allow you to get the most out of the day.

----------- Conditions Caveats --------------

1) Bundle up. Frostbite can happen quickly, with Ski/Board Airspeed, Frostbite
can happen within seconds.

2) Strong Winds can erode Fresh Snowfall over Wide, or Exposed Land Contours
revealing an Icy Base. Use Caution with Speed on initial explorations and pay attention
to Patterns of Surface Conditions that may help you anticipate hazards.
Reduce Speed PRIOR to proceeding over Blind Crests where you can not see
the Trail Surface below, until you are on it.

---------------- End of Caveats ---------------

As long as you are Skin-Safe and Warm-Comfortable in your Exterior Envelop,
we are quite positive that you will have a very fine Ski/Board day with light
Traffic and room to get some speed happening with appropriate regard
for Safety, Conditions and the Ski/Board Code of Conduct.

The discovery of Tremblant’s Sweet Spots after a good Snowfall is one of
Life’s Joy’s for Serious Ski/Board Fans and we hope you can get out to find them!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
