4/18/15 PRELIMINARY #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Late Eve.Bonus Weekend, Saturday April 18th, Apres Ski...

There was Snow at Tremblant Today... and we don’t think there were many
that were expecting Snow to materialize, especially when the forecast was
so concrete about Rain.

The Temp’s spiked up to +8C twice today, the first time at 10:00A.M, then they
dropped very quickly, within an hour they were back to +2 C by 11:00 A.M., and
+1C by noon, whereafter they regained gradually, back to +8 C by 5:00 P.M.

So when they were at 1C at South Base level, they were approximately -3 or -4 C,
at Summit Levels, and with Cooler air aloft here’s how the Moisture came
down... for a while, anyway.

Just like usual, Tremblant Weather surprises tend to be positive,
and for several mid-day hours, Guests got super sweet snowy surfaces,
fromSummit to Base, on both Sud, South and Nord, North. By “Last Run”
conditions were returning to Spring Soft.

Bonus Weekend Sunday... Report Preview

The last Day You Can Ski/Board at Tremblant ’til November!!!

T360 Bonus Weekend Saturday April 18th, 2015, Almost Noon Update @ 11:48 A.M.

Significant and very positive Weather Factors:

At this time, the precipitation that was forecast to fall as Rain, is falling as Snow
on both Versant Sud, South, and Versant Nord, North.

As the temps are forecast to rise to +9 C, it is unlikely the new falling snow will
remain as such, but for this morning and until there is a change, Tremblant Bonus
Weekend Guests are enjoying some unexpected sweetness in the today’s conditions!

T360 Preliminary 4.18 BONUS WEEKEND Update @:
4.17.15, 7:15 P.M.

We published our 40(*) Open Trail “Educated Guess”(see all below) at 1:47 P.M.

At 1:58 P.M. Tremblant.ca published their preliminary Open Trail List at... 39(*)

Wow, We Were Close... in more ways than one!

Archival Open Trail List And Weekend Weather(Hourly), Posted Below.

----------- 1:47 P.M., Preliminary Report, Friday, 4.17.15 Orig. Post -----------

?? (*) Open Trails at #Tremblant for the first day of the Bonus Weekend 4.18/19
(We make an “Educated Guess” at the number we think is good below)

(the following is loosely based on content within our 4.12.15 Apres Ski)

Weather/Condition Notes:

For Those Looking Forward To The April 18/19 Bonus Weekend...

As far as retaining Alpine Winter Snow Sports Trail Surfaces for the April 18/19
Bonus Weekend, we are still very confident that the Groomed Trail Base, especially
on more shaded North and Cooler Upper Mountain Levels, should have more than
enough reserve to maintain coverage. It’s difficult to speculate on the exact effects
that the Weather may have had as it has included 4 full days of Sun, Wind,
Daytime High’s of 15 C/60 F as well as a day of rain too, so the Trail-side look
could be quite a bit different, particularly on the Lower South for sure.

We are not sure exactly how conditions are going to be because of a lack of
“Yesterday” experience to clearly see potential Weather effects and we do not
know which Trails may or may not be on the Grooming List. The Tremblant.ca
Official Snow Report is showing all trails currently Closed and there are no
Grooming Icons being displayed.

One very important factor, and a positive one for Trail Snow retention, is the near or
below zero C overnights all week, which indicates temp’s should have been quite nicely
below zero at cooler Mountain elevations. This factor alone means there is a break in
the daily Thermal cycles that offsets the heat of day with Cool of night, thereby arresting
the thaw and creating resistance to thaw the morning after.

The “Above the Knee” Snow Pictured above has not gone anywhere...

We have been asked time and again “How many Open Trails do you think
will be available?” and to be fair, we have categorically stated that we are not privy
to any Official source of Opening Data, so we do not know... however,

If we were forced to speculate though, based on what’s been Open up ’til
last Sunday, 4.12.15, the kind of conditions over that day’s terrain, the weather
since, observations on the base and snowpack, plus any “Hunches”, we
would say very broadly, that it might be in the range of 40, +/- 10, so somewhere
between 30 and 50 Open Trails.

We could be totally wrong.

There may be many factors concerning the final number that we are unaware
of, so we do not want anyone to consider any number anything other than an
Experience/Observation educated guess, and completely subject to correction
by the actual number released by Tremblant.ca

What We Know For Sure...

No one will be motivated to have more Open that the Tremblant Mountain Crews.
Going to all the trouble of organizing the People-Power to Groom, Open and
run the Mountain is a HUGE task, and not cheap either, so with the Mountain’s
reputation for delivering good value for Lift Ticket Pricing, not to mention
encouraging all the regular Seasons Pass Holders to attend, we think they will
definitely be making every effort to make Conditions the best possible.

We will add the Official Data as soon as we are aware of it.

Keep in mimd that Tremblant’s Trail Network was still being exposed to
-20 C overnight lows up until about two weeks ago and that very
consistent and very deep frost from a record Cool Winter is very much
present underneath the top surface layers, and still supporting their
continued existence.

Until the Official Data is released, we think the “Proof Of Snow” Shot above,
from Last Run Sunday showing Natural Snow Depths of over a Metre on the
Mid Elevations of the North Side, is still some of the best evidence to support
good conditions for the Bonus Weekend.

Whether or not Expo Itself is Open for the Bonus Weekend, This 4.12.15 Expo
Sample should be typical of the Open Expert Terrain that is going to be Pure
Spring Soft.

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
