Official #Tremblant Snowmaking Seasonal Startup. Oct.26.2016

Fabulous Early Season Snowmaking On P’tit Bonheur, Versant Nord,
the North Side at Tremblant, was Officially announced in a Tremblant.ca
Press Release on October 26th, 2016.

In addition to this Excellent news showing active Snowmaking on P’tit Bonheur,
and just as a further thought starter, we think there’s very good reason to think
there is a significant probability for Summit-To-Base, Total Mountain Vertical,
for Opening Day.

That’s our theory, based on some key observations that will be the major
point of this topic’s development over the next day or two...

Here is your biggest clue, for those who can spot the largest hint
revealed in this Web Cam Summit Snap Shot.

Can you point to the biggest clue that may suggest Summit-To-Base
Terrain Development?

Hint: 2+2=?

But First...

Going Back In Time By A Couple Of Days...

There were Snow Guns set in place on the Summit on or before October 24th
which is completely normal as Mountain Crews get prepared for the season.
Over the years we have observed Crews setting Snowmaking equipment out
at various time prior to the onset of temps low enough to blow snow, perhaps
around a week or so before the long range weather forecast is showing favourable
conditions. All very normal parts of readiness. This year, the first significant snow
is coincidental to the early Snow Gun placement.

We immediately noticed half of the clue we refer to above in this

Due to the early date of this first snowfall, we might expect the
snow would not last for beyond a few hours. Very rarely does
first snow this early stick around in the normal up’s/down’s of
the third week of October.

By after sunset on the 24th, it seemed that the temps and the snow
were going to hang in there for at least overnight, as the snow settles
in for a well chilled evening.

36 Hours later... by noon on Oct. 26, there is what we would call an
“established” Sub-Zero Celsius pattern that has allowed both
retention and accumulations of more Summit level snow. This is
really beginning to look encouraging for an early head start.
Not only that, but the additional clue we hinted at is now visible
in the picture.

But Wait, There’s More!

The Positive Factors Keep Adding Up!

Clues to Versant Nord Summit-To-Base Snowmaking Terrain Development
are the locations of the total number of visibly deployed Snowguns.

On the 24th of October:

If you scroll back up to the second from page top, 26th Webcam Pic, you’ll see
there is a forth Snow Gun installed on the Duncan Quad side and that gives the
total visible at 4, 2 on the Ski Patrol HQ side, 2 on the Duncan Quad side, hence
our “2+2=?” hint from above.

Those Snow Guns on the Duncan Quad Off-Load side are only
really necessary if the Duncan Quad is going to be running, indicating
a Versant Nord, North Side, Summit-to-base descent circuit. Otherwise,
if it was a historically typical Opening Day, only the 2 in front of
the Ski Patrol HQ would be necessary to facilitate Summit Snow
for access to P’tit Bonheur, Beauchemin and/or Nansen, Beauvallon
which have been the traditional Opening Day Starters.

In the 78 Year History of the Tremblant Resort, total Mountain Vertical
access on Versant Sud, the South Side, and Versant Nord, the North Side
has only occurred once, the Opening day of season 2014/15, two years ago.

Will this be the second time?

Looking at the Long Range Weather forecasts, there certainly seems to be
solidly Sub-Zero “On The Mountain" for nights and much of early and late
days, for the next two weeks. “On the Mountain” is the reference we use for
the typical -4C Cooler-than-base temperatures at Summit elevations.

Please Note: It’s our understanding that continuous 24 hr Sub-Zero is not necessary
for Snowmaking to generate functional accumulations. In this forecast model
below, between 14 and 18 hours per day, may be Sub-Zero on the Mountain,
allowing Crews to incrementally Night-Shift a blizzards worth of total depth.

Here is a graphic annotation of the 14 day Tremblant, Sud, South Base forecast.

Please Note: At cooler elevations, all of the precipitation icons shown above
have the potential to be Snow in the winds aloft over the Summit.

If Mother Nature is “Willing”, i.e., sufficient Sub-Zero Snowmaking time,
Tremblant Crews are “Able”, with one of the most powerful Snowmaking
systems in Eastern North America, so stay tuned for further updates!

Please Note: Tremblant.ca sent an email newsletter 10.27.16 regarding
a blog with specific timestamp references to 10.26.16 Pic.Files as “Yesterday”,
however, the blog is header dated 10.20.16? We are not sure why the discrepancy
however, all the included information confirms the intent to Open with Sud, South,
Nord, North, Summit-to-base descent access. We will include an Archival copy of the
blog article as a “Reply” to this topic, below.

We’re hoping for the All-Snow scenario!

Please Note:There is an out of sequence time phenomenon above in
the sense that there is a 10/26/16 referenced Snowmaking Pic. referred
to as “Yesterday” within the body of the post, however the Blog File
date is labeled at 10/20/16. We received the Official Tremblant.ca newsletter
link to this Blog Article on 10/27/16.

Please Note: Due to the reconfiguration of the Tremblant.ca Official Website,
some features have periodically been unavailable at time we have been researching.
Consequently, chronological awareness on our part at or from any time we started this
topic in the original article above, may not be up to date with accessibility that may, or
may not have been in place publicly, from time to time, as the site has and is being
worked on.

Basically, we did not know about the full Seasons Opening Plan when we were
making our own deductions in the our original article above, so all the confirming
info. from Tremblant.ca is very welcome!

This can be a naturally occurring effect when any Large, Complex Website is
receiving an overhaul. It does not alter the fundamental value of the information
and we encourage all Tremblant.ca guests to be patient through this process.

Tremblant.ca is a very large and multi-function website that must be capable
of both providing information and complex Holiday Booking functions. We imagine
it is a HUGE undertaking to execute and we are very understanding of any
temporary situations along the path.

If you have questions about information availability,
contact Tremblant Customer Service through the options
listed at Tremblant.ca

November 7, 2016 Update:

Re: Projected Nov. 24 2016, Winter Ski/Board Season Opening Day

We think this is probably a “Test”. It would be a HUGE Bonus
if it “Sticks”, i.e., remains intact and accumulates from now on, but...

Due to the likelihood that at this still early date, there may yet
be some “+” plus degree daytime temps that may prevent this
snowmaking from “sticking” on November 7th, this is a very
positive step in the sequence that leads to “Opening”.

Even if it does not stay beyond the heat of any of the near-term
daytime highs, it still plays a very important role in drawing out
any residual ground warmth from the summer past. Saturation
of ground layers with water acts as a conductive element in the
process of getting to winter. Water is one of the most efficient
thermal transfer agents known to science, so regardless of the
anticipation generated by the cosmetic appeal of early Snowmaking,
there is real value in the preparation of what will become the
foundations of the “Base”.

If you consider that the “Base” of any Ski terrain is made up
of layers or strata, then saturated ground is literally the foundation.
Not only does the ground support what will become many, many
layers of packed and groomed Snow above it, but when water saturated,
it also acts initially as a frost conductor, then as a cold storage unit that
holds that Frost. The winter frozen ground plays a hugely important role in
the stability and durability of conditions for the entire season, including
how soon skiable coverage can start, and how long skiable coverage can
be maintained.

To have that work starting at this date is a very, very big sign
that things are moving favourably towards the new Ski/Board Season.

It should be noted that there is also probability of the early Snowmaking
extending over the entire Summit-To-Base course for the 24Hr. Children’s Charity
Fundraiser as soon as possible. This developmental focus benefits all
Tremblant guests in the initial days and weeks of the new season due to the
intensity of both the scope and the quality of the base required work to support
the event traffic.

We have been monitoring the Web Cams daily, as we do every fall,
and unfortunately, the best Tell-Tale Web Cam, i.e., the Summit Web Cam
has been off-line since approximately 11/1/16.

We suspect that this may be due to the possible relocation and/or
new permanent mounting for this device. The Summit Web Cam
had been on a Telephone pole on the North corner of the Summit
Ski Patrol HQ for years. That location may have made it difficult to
maintain, but it was a most excellent location for Mountain User Intelligence.

We hope it will be restored to the same or comparable. It may also
off-line due to the complete overhaul of the Tremblant.ca main Website
as part of the reconfiguration process, speaking of which...

Another very big missing piece of the puzzle is the Versant Nord, North Base
Web Cam that has been off-line for about a month or so. It is also a very
useful diagnostic POV for experienced Tremblant Skiers/Boarders, we rate
it as second most important to the Summit. Versant Nord, the North Side
tends to be cooler that the Sud/South and that Nord/North Base POV
often shows a dramatic difference between the two main Sud/Nord sides.
We look forward to the Nord/North Base Web Cam being back soon.
The confirmation it provides for Nord/North side Snowmaking is one
of the most reassuring Pre-Season sights we know of.
