T360 Apres Ski Evening Edit Under Construction at 9:57 P.M.
An Excellent Winter Day At Tremblant. Period.
Any Day You Can Take This Picture At The Top Of
Versant Nord, the North Side, “Le Tunnel” Is An Excellent Day.
Versant Nord, the North Side, Trail # 66, “Le Tunnel"
Le Tunnel is rarely Groomed, but we hope that changes
because this Trail absolutely comes Alive with the profound
enhancement to its character that Grooming renders. Additionally,
it opens up its accessibility and beauty to an exponentially greater
number of Tremblant Fans who can actually use it, and use it well,
in this outstanding condition.
There might not be more than a handful of Short Radius Parallel Turn
runs at Tremblant that are close to this Trail’s rhythmic undulations
over such a perfectly true Fall Line descent and we encourage all who
have not tried it in this format, to go there A.S.A.P. and sample “Great”,
before a single snowflake changes.
By the time we were able to get there today, the bright sun
of this morning had already become flat-light overcast(sorry about that),
so we had to “Cook” the pic’s to show contrast and detail, but...
You can still see the Corduroy under the Skis and on the Trail Side,
and we can tell you for a fact, that Corduroy runs the entire length.
We have more Le Tunnel Pic’s to process tonight and we hope to have
3 pic. decent sequence for detail review in tomorrows post.
Otherwise, Great Positive Feedback on many Groomed areas around the Mountain
today, McCulloch is only one example, but a good one considering the lead
pic. in our original post below.
For Beginners And Intermediates:
Tons Of Great Terrain!
Virtually anything on the Official Grooming List is Very Fine.
Example 1: Nansen
Example 2: P’tit Bonheur
On Top Of All That...
It’s Was Snowing Like Crazy At Last Run!
Not sure how much we’ll get, and it is supposed to Snow more overnight,
so with the Temp’s going UP to just around 0C at the Resort Base...
Tomorrow Should Be Another Day Of Superb Mountain Performance!

77(*) Open Trails on the Crisp, Cool, and Very Carve-able Slopes at #Tremblant .
From a Functional POV...
This is roughly 90% of what you need to know about Tremblant Right Now.
(The rest is posted below)
From an Aesthetic POV...
This is 50% of what you need to know about Tremblant Right Now(the rest is below).
The Level Of Refinement in the Open, Groomed Slopes
is covering more square area every day. As Crews get
through the most commonly used Trails, we’ve seen
them move on to the Less Well Traveled, but non-the-less,
critically important Trails that make up a large part
of Tremblant’s character as a Unique Alpine Snow Sports
Environment.
Two days ago, some of the very best Trails that we reference
as standards of Seasonal Attainment were not only Re-Opened,
but re-opened Groomed, for the first time this season.
Herein Lies The Surprise du Jour, but first...
In 1948, when Tremblant’s Founder, Joe Ryan first opened
Versant Nord, the North Side, access to the Summit from that
side was by Surface Lift.
The Lines cut throughout the bush to install those Surface Lifts
had to be perfectly 90’dgrees perpendicular to the Fall Line of
the Slope so people wouldn’t fall off the “T-Bars".
When the Chair Lifts were installed many years later, those two lines
were re-purposed as Trail Descents and they have remained so as
Trails # 64, Marie-Claude Asselin, and # 65, Banzai. They are Single Black
Rated, Expert Trails of relatively narrow width @ roughly 5 to 7 Metres or so,
and for many years they were left primarily Un-Groomed as Mogul runs,
but they are still Perfectly Straight @ 90Degrees to the Fall Line.

(Looking Back Up to the Summit from Mid-Point Marie-Claude Asselin,
you can see the absolute straightness of this Trail, right up to the
Origin Point at the top of the Mountain at what is now the Unloading
platform for the Duncan Quad Chairlift.)
In recent years, they have been tweaked for width to accommodate
a Grooming Machine and now, for the first time this season, they have
been re-opened in very close to Optimal, Groomed Conditions that we
take great joy in both reporting and using.

From a purely Diagnostic POV, they are Benchmarks for us because
they are unsupported by Snowmaking, so they represent the ultimate
desirability of Opening on the merits of Pure Natural Snowfall Accumulation.
That is the key to understanding why we put so much importance on
them as indicators of Sector Health. It’s simple, when there’s enough Snow to
Open, things are really good, when there’s enough Snow to Open them Groomed,
Things Are Excellent!
So Then, Here’s the "Surprise du Jour"...
There’s a Third Trail Line adjacent in this sector that sometimes
“Flies Under The Radar”, meaning that it goes without being noticed
by many “Average” Mountain Guests. Sometimes, it even “Flies Under
the Radar" of the Official Open Trail Status, like it has for the past 2
or 3 days....
Not On The List As Groomed...
But Definitely Groomed In The Reality...
Versant Nord, The North Side,
"Le Tunnel", Trail # 66, Open, GROOMED!!!
This Trail Is Practically Speaking, perhaps the Ultimate
“Canary In The Coal Mine” of Seasonal Maturity in
the entire Sector. For Years and Years, and Decades and
Decades, this Trail has been left as a Knee-Pumping
Mogul Run, with bumps the size of VW-Bugs that would
Thrill Mogul-Hounds and Eat Your Quads For Breakfast.
Very Rarely Groomed, But When So, Absolutely EXCELLENT!(**)
...and one of the very best signs of surrounding Great Conditions.
(**) In it’s un-groomed form, Le Tunnel is a truly Black, Expert
Mogul Challenge. In a Groomed form, it’s Character changes so
radically it’s almost unbelievable, and in that freshly laid Corduroy,
we would not hesitate to take a Confident Intermediate with Solid
“Hockey Stops” Capability onto it with Attended Supervision as
a suitable run to practice Short-Radius Parallel Turning Technique.
The Scenery there is Spectacular Hardwood Forest Glade and there
are Sous Bois, Hors Piste, Un-Groomed Glade Zone Terrain Designations
on either side.
