Any Way You Focus On It, Conditions Were A Wee Bit Windy...

Clinically Speaking, there was quite a bit of forward resistance in the
new snow. Another word that could be substituted might be “drag", however,
that was not a negative, because our Versant Nord, North Side Case Study
of Le Tunnel, was physically made easier by the resistance that noticeably
offset gravity.

Basically, the resistance made all the Mountain’s steepness easier. The price,
if you could call it that, was that the Plateau’s needed more speed to shoot
across, either that or you had to add thrust by a more aggressive skating action.

We think that could actually change quite a bit tonight because of the quick
drop in the Temp’s to -20C that maybe, could possibly, might, at least some
probability of... rendering a friction-reducing, Cryogenic Freeze-Dry Shock to
the humidity in the new Snow.

We could be wrong, but there have been other similar -20C temp drops
in 12 hour periods that have produced this net effect, so it is at least
a possibility.

The primary functional benefits would be to Beginners and Intermediates using
Terrain that’s not as steep, where it would be easier to maintain momentum.

The Snow-squalls predicted in the Environment Canada Weather Warning
posted below, did happen, and are still happening. On the way back from
the North Side, we encountered White-Out Driving conditions that
delayed our return. It is difficult to know what contribution snowfall
could make overnight, there may be a bunch more, there may be no more.

At least the wind at the Summit dropped off to close to Zero this evening,
so we are hopeful that Mountain Crews can get a lot of Grooming
done and lock that snow down into place.

It is possible all the New Snow could generate expansion of the Open Trail
numbers upward??? Only the Morning will tell...

79(*) Open Trails On The Freshly Snow’d On Slopes At #Tremblant .

All This Plus 19cm’s Of Fresh, New, Overnight Snowfall!

Yesterdays “Groomed Impeccably Smooth” PLUS all the
new Snow will produce an extraordinary day at Tremblant
and if you have the chance to go... Do it!

This is a 3 pic. descent sequence on Versant Nord, the North Side
Le Tunnel, yesterday at around 2:00 P.M. Can you imagine this
now with 19cm’s of Fresh Powder?

Why Are These 3 Pic’s So Important?

These Three Pic’s are relevant because they Generally Represent
The Pre-Existing Tremblant Base That With So Much New Snow Should
Be A “Game Changer” Of Instantly Accelerated Surface Conditions.

We wrote extensively in yesterdays posting about the significance
of Versant Nord, the North Side’s Le Tunnel’s Very Rare and Very
Desirable Grooming. All That Still Applies, But With New Snow,
All The More Important.

Imagine this now with 19cm’s of Fresh Powder!!!

But Wait, There’s MORE!!!

And in this case “More” can literally mean “More Snow”, because of
the Drifting Factor. Last night’s snowfall came on a moderate Sou-East
wind, and that means there’s a possibility of Orographic Snowfall
Considerably Over The Statistical Total on the Versant Nord, North Side
Summit and Edge Sectors!

Conditions Caveat:

Fresh New Snowfall at this depth typically favours Experts with
Experience in deep snow due to the thickness of the accumulations
that can cause resistance to control movements of steering and braking,
so it is vitally important that Beginners and Intermediates remain
within Designated Green and/or Blue Open Groomed Terrain.

This was P’tit Bonheur at about 2:30 P.M. yesterday.
Today, this and Nansen will be your best bet for Easy
Beginner Conditions, however, all the New Snow even
Groomed, may have softer top layers, so absolute Speed
Control with “Snow-Plow” is critical to avoid potential
run-away situations.

Page under Progressive Assembly, but if you’re a Regional
Tremblant Fan you should not be reading this because you’re
Driving to the Mountain now.

If you’re a Regional Tremblant Fan and you are reading this,
then Stop Immediately And Leave Home, Call In “Sick”,
Play “Hookey”, Escape To Ski, Bail To Board, Just Do
Whatever It Takes To Get On The Mountain!

Obviously the most interesting part of todays post
will be the Apres Ski Segment, so we will use that
as a legitimate reason to cut the morning portion
short in order to get out quickly. C’ya.later.

P.S. Provided there’s safe driving after Last Run, and we
can get back in a reasonable time, we hope to start
an early Apres Ski Docu.pic report by about 6:30 P.M.,
but seriously Regional Tremblant Fans, tomorrow and
onward should be exceptionally sweet conditions, so
scroll back up to the 14 day Forecast and plan accordingly.

Please Note: Apres Ski Re-scheduled to 9:30 P.M.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
