Exactly as expected, the combination of rising temps
and an additional Grooming Cycle rendered Mountain
wide refinement on all sides.

In addition to the Grooming Refinement and the enhanced grip
on warming surfaces, there are a couple of examples of Utility
upgrades that we are now Pic.Processing for review in the morning.
Tomorrow is supposed to start with “snowing", and as the day
develops, there could be a change to potential sleet or rainy
periods. However, with Sud, South, Base level temps around
+4C, there is the possibility that typically -4C Mountain
elevations and cooler winds aloft over the summit could
generate snow instead.
The Skiing should be superb. Rising temps almost always
produce better grip as the top layers become softer. We
think there could be an advantage though, from the
pre-existing frost in the trail-base that should function
as a barrier to any heat working too far in.

The Technical qualities of the Skiing over the past couple of days
requires both muscle and finesse at the same time in order to
maintain the highest possible sensitivity to variable surfaces.
No one can do anything about the volatile recent weather swings, so...
Basically, you have to be constantly aware that potential icy or
slick spots can cause sudden loss of balance and the best way
to be able to offset those is to hold an athletic position that can
react just as quickly to changing conditions underfoot.
That’s when Nansen becomes like a breath of fresh air for even
Experts who can take a break for a run, and relax in a far more
predictable and gentle descent.

We love Nansen for many reasons, and relaxed cruising there
yesterday was an example of the total joy of uncomplicated fun
while making hundreds of easily performed slalom style carved turns
on beautifully predictable, soft and reliable surfaces. The “Whoops”
and gleeful “Hollers” of all the Kidz of all ages that could be heard
all the way down are all the positive feedback you need to know
everyone here is having a Great Day!
2.13.18 Trail Case Review, Versant Nord, North Side,
Expo Quad Sector, Trail # 94 “La Griffe”.
(Applicable in Scale and Relative Similarity To All Groomed Terrain)
It was almost an unbelievable coincidence that we had intended to
review La Griffe, and were on our way up the Expo Quad when there
was some very animated discussion at the other end of the Chair
we were on about how “Icy” La Griffe was. We were not part of the
conversation, but obviously keenly interested for the sake of the
review we were about to do.
We are happy to report that the loud criticism was wrong.

Typical of many similar Groomed runs today,
very firm substrates with a good top layer
of loose snow that respond very well to tuned
gear, with a Fundamentally Well Balanced, Compact
Stance and Absolute Speed Control.

It Is A Pet-Peeve Of ours That People Not Qualified By Either
Skill and/or Equipment Suitability, like to verbally blame or
criticize Trails rather than admit or take responsibility for personal
lack of skills and/or properly(tuned) Equipment.
To call La Griffe “Icy” is a grossly unfair misrepresentation.
"Very Firm”, for sure, and there are some small icy bits, but we
hope this series of pic’s shows the real La Griffe story of a very
smooth groomed run that simply wants Qualified Experts to
use requisite care and control on well tuned Gear to execute
basic technical elements of skiing fundamentals to have a Safe,
Fun, and Skill-Testing descent.

The steepest pitches usually show the slickest firmness or Icy bits
in the high traffic traversed centres. These pic’s above and below show
the skiers using a very safe default strategy of using the trail-sides for
the benefit of the soft, very turnable snow that is almost 100% always
on the outboard sides for multiple short radius parallel turns.

The turns in the course of the La Griffe descent are also plateau’s
that can be safely used to stop or exert braking speed control.

It needs to be noted that the centre of La Griffe was definitely slippery
because of traffic moving the loose snow off or down, however, with
careful speed control its centre firmness was Expert-Easy to make lots
of deliberate, short turns on it... but the key is “Speed”. Too much velocity
and Whooops... you’re a prime candidate for out of control.
Below is the final pitch descent of La Griffe, where you can see down to
Trail # 78, Fuddle Duddle Bas, Lower.

Generally, and within the context of all the recent weather glitches,
we would say La Griffe is in very well Optimized, Groomed Condition.
It is Wall-To-Wall covered, smooth, and for those who have legitimate
Expert Skills and reasonably tuned gear, a remarkably fine example
of how Tremblant’s Mountain Op’s can generate relative excellence
after Mother Nature throws some curves.
Generally, and within the context of all the recent weather glitches,
we would say that All Of Tremblant’s Groomed Terrain is Optimized
for the Individual skill ratings of Trail “Green”, “Blue”, and “Black”
designations. Consequently, you will have “Best Results” when
you properly match skills to terrain.

Conditions Notes:
With warming temps on the Mountain and loads of sun, the potential
for surface softening and some truly extraordinary carving traction exists
over the entire Alpine Snow Sports Trail Network.
