T360 Late Eve.Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct @ 10:53 P.M.

The Fact That You Won’t Get Many Pictures From “Foggy" Today
Has Nothing To Do With The Super-Shred-Spring(like)-Soft,
And Really Fun-Fast Top Layers.

There were times when you could not see 20 metres(80 ft.) ahead, but...

Never-The-Less, It Was Fun...
And It was Fast!

What We Think Is Happening... A T360 Theory...

Firstly, at up to +1C at the Summit, there was a Boatload of traction,
but it was in a thin layer of perhaps 3 or 4 cm’s of depth that you could
be forgiven for thinking it might be deeper. We think the reason it was
not deeper became clear as you were doing “Pole Plants” while doing fast
parallel style turns on lower Banzai... and the Ski Poles would only go in for
3 or 4cm’s. The deep frost into the Mountain from the first “Cool” half of the
season is still all there, and we think it’s protecting those top layers as stored
refrigerant from below.

It was foggy enough that the camera would not focus, so
while we often use one or both skis to show scale, today
the close Ski gave the camera something it could “See”,
to focus on.

As you descended, the fog cleared, mostly because the “Fog”
was actually “Cloud”. You could frequently see sun-brightened
distant scenes, indicating that the cloud was quite thin in places.
The shot below on Lower Nord, North Beauchemin is a good
example of the distant visible cloud-filtered brightness.

Obviously... Vision was a problem, especially for those with dark goggle lens.
We use Yellow Safety Glasses in Cloud/Fog because they restore contrast
and allow air circulation behind the lens so they don’t fog up themselves...

(You don’t need goggles with lens seals when its already warm out...),

Anyway, some people were going without any eye protection, but they
were complaining about High Speed Air-Burn on sensitive exposed eyes,
and the truth is that cloud is actually quadrillions of billions of atmospherically
suspended teeny-tiny droplets, so the eye-sting could probably be attributable
to that.

Vision and cloud aside, the skiing was genuinely “Racy Fast” and
super-easy shred carving... enjoyed by only a select few in attendance,
who had the whole Mountain to themselves in a Private Club Day of
personal lapping solitude.

We had morning chores off the Mountain, so we can only say
about the Afternoon...

No one will believe us when we tell you how much fun it was today.
They make movies about “Dancing In The Rain”, but this was better
because while we were there, not a single drop fell anywhere at
Tremblant and all we did was rip as many turns as we could.

Tomorrow? -4C, some sun? some cloud, moderate Nor-West Winds
coming up the Mountain over Beauvallon. Its too early and there are
too many wild cards to say exactly how surfaces will be. A lot has to
do with when the grooming is done tonight with respect to surfaces
frozen or not. We know there will be great skiing, we don’t know how
much or where until verified by experience, but it will be there.
There may be a temporary reduction in open trails to service
weather stressed terrain... maybe.(?), maybe not(?).
we will see in the morning...

91(*) Open Trails on the well developed, utility upgraded slopes of #Tremblant .

The following are just 2 examples of many 2.14.18 Mountain-Wide Utility
Upgrades that are parts of the continuing process of refinement
at Tremblant.

#1)

Versant Sud, South Side, McCulloch Trail Utility Upgrade.
What you see above is that Mountain Crews have driven the
grooming machines over/into, the Packed Ridge that is normally
a straight line down, just to the right of the permanent plumbing
and snowmaking guns. They would have had the full width of the
front plow blade angled towards the trail surface and they have
basically “Scooped” or “Harvested” all that built up snow accumulated
in the ridge, onto the trail.

Please Note: The Pic. Below was taken from almost the exact spot, under,
and while standing on the side of McCulloch looking up, as the Pic.
above was taken while riding over, within about 10 minutes.

The Net Result Is:

A significant and very beautifully enhanced “Shred” depth
that regular McCulloch Boarders and Skiers will find totally
user friendly.

Basically, the pre-existing grooming ridge on the edge of the McCulloch
has been building up since it opened back in December. By moving estimated
dozens of Cubic Metres of snow back on to the trail, it’s like having the addition
of say, a 20cm’s snowfall spread laterally over the old trail-base. This is
a brilliantly simple way to restore the skiable loose snow depth over a
surface that 2 days ago, was subjected to freezing rain and had Icy bits.

This may not seem like much, but it is actually a HUGE benefit
for Nord, North Access from one of our most favourite sectors
at Tremblant, Versant Nord, North Side, Lowell Thomas Zone

The Runout to Lowell Thomas, Bas, Lower, provides access to
the mid-descent of Gagnon(#70), which can be laterally traversed
to reach the “Side Door” of Sissy Schuss, as well as the Lowell T.
Triple-Chair and Beauchemin Bas, Lower and the Edge Sector entrance.
Normally, this runout is left as a raw Mogul area, but as short as it is,
it is a solid “Black”, Experts only, descent path due to the choppy
nature of the moguls that are tightly spaced with deep trough’s
and rocky natural hazards.

When It Is Groomed Like This Almost Anyone Can Use It With Care...
because Smooth And Flat, it goes from “Very Difficult” to “Really Easy”.

Why Is This Important?...

...Because This Sector Is One Of The Most Beautiful Boreal Forest
Places On Planet Earth and in our opinion, This descent path to
Sissy Schuss is a component of one of The Very Best Total
Summit-To-Base Descent Paths at All Of Tremblant... and...
grooming this little section, Which Is A Key Connection... to this
level of perfection opens up the whole descent path to an
exponentially greater group of Skiers and Boarders to enjoy.

We know for a fact that there are many people who avoid this
descent path because of the difficulty and hazards in this short
section and we are thrilled to see Mountain Crews have groomed
it so beautifully! Combined with groomed MCA, or groomed Banzai,
and the Ultimate... Groomed Le Tunnel, this makes for a totally GORGEOUS
and totally FUN, Summit-to-Base Nord, North descent that is not
only beautiful, but is literally better than any gym on the planet
for sheer Slalom carving style exercise value.

Simple, Effective, Practical, and Very Utility Beneficial
Excellent, Excellent, Work here by Mountain Op’s!

These Above are only 2 of many, many refined enhancements
you’ll find while responsibly exploring Tremblant’s superbly prepared
World Class Alpine Snow Sports Trail Network.

The Mountain is in generally excellent condition, and if you take into
account all the recent weird weather Up’s/Down’s, it’s almost miraculous
that trail surface quality is so very, very fine!

Page under progressive assembly.
More complex “Tipping Point” Weather with
temp’s floating around the Zero C mark.
Way too early to be completely accurate,
however history shows there is some probability
that cooler Mountain Elevations could remain
“Winter” and that’s what we’re hoping for
again today.

(**) If you go back through all the previous Valentines Day(Feb. 14(#)) postings,
you’ll see we’ve tried to include at least one pic. with some sort of “Heart”
shape or Valentine Sweetheart reference for the sake of sentimental
attachment to the day. We searched and searched for the past couple
of days, but could not find anything to make the same connection this season
and we were sort-of disappointed we couldn’t find some clever little sign or image.
Then... suddenly and very subtly, while in the hours of Pic.Processing
every evening is consumed with, we think it amazingly just appeared
before our very eyes, late last night... Small, almost un-noticeable, but see
if you agree with us... we think we see 2 very small red Hearts on the Heel Treads
of the lead SnowBoarder in this McCulloch “Shred” Pic.
Are They Really Red Valentine’s Hearts? We Think So!
