2/13/18 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski at 11:51 P.M.

one of our “Pet Peeve’s”...

There was a Chair Lift Report of “La Griffe” being “Icy”...

But that was not accurate...

So We Went There For A Case Study Look.
This Shot Below Is Roughly 85% of La Griffe
Trail Surfaces at 2.13.18, Mid-Afternoon.
You Be The Judge...

It would be grossly inaccurate to call La Griffe “Icy”,
“Firm” maybe, but actually only a small amount of Icy...
If Your Skis Are Tuned.

This is not to say there was No Ice on La Griffe at all,
because there was a small amount, however, with good
edges, you can see the results above.

If You Did Not Have Tuned Gear, you may have found
more slickness in the Firm Surfaces, and that could create
the Impression of Icy due to the absence of Lateral Edge Hold.

We are processing more pic’s from La Griffe that will
be ready for the morning, but the point is that if you
believed every Loud Chair Lift Critic, you’d probably
never set Ski’s on it when it’s actually super-Smooth
and not bad edging.

On the Flip-Side for Apres Ski...

Nansen.

Nice and Wide, and most importantly...
“Easy” to stay in control on.

More in the morning, but it looks like tomorrow
may be the first real day of of seasonal weather
advancement.

It’s Been Snowing A Lot At Tremblant.

You Can Watch It Arriving.

The Scenery Is Gorgeous.
(Mother Natures Displays are Not Optimized For Mobile Devices,
put this on a 40-50” Smart T.V. if you can. It’s the best we can
do to put a Tremblant Window in your living room.)

Technical Athletic Skills Required.

It Is “Technical” Skiing that requires Maintaining Controlled Dynamic
Balance within Active Body Motion in a well centred, compact
stance. You might want to imagine how a “Tight-Rope Walker”
would sense core balance over the Rope. The “Rope” in our case,
is the "Fall Line". Everything from Head-To-Toes needs to be
capable of working effectively at systematically being a shock absorber.

It Is “Technical” Skiing that is mostly Very Fine with solid
substates that can include icy bits requiring Absolute Directional
and Stop/Speed Control with Line-of-sight, VFR Navigational Hazard
Avoidance. Icy Bits are primarily in patterns at topographical (blind)Crests,
and/or over Pitches, and can be Directly Proportional to Steepness.

Remain in your Realistic Skill Level rated Terrain and Default Down One
Level for Safe Initial Explorations. Verify Risk Before Ripping Around.

If you can Focus On Fundamentals, You’ll have a Ton Of Fun, And...
You'll Be A Better Skier By The End Of The Day.

For Best Ski Results...

3) Optional, If Possible(?)...

If you have access to gear that is designed to work with
solid substrates like these old FIS Race Skis above, you
may have an advantage, providing you have the Skills
to Safely harness the Forces and Counter-Forces generated
using this equipment.

Of All Of These, This Is The Most Important,

#1, Literally and Figuratively...

1) Edges Are Critical.

No One Can Do Anything About The Weather’s Temp.
and Precipitation Swings. The Hugely Positive Starting
Position Is That Mountain Crews Have Provided “Smooth”
as a Foundational Element. Beyond that...

Without Good Edges...

You Are Bringing A Pea-Shooter To A Gunfight.

Summary is:

Take Great Care With Technique And Equipment.

There is Excellence, both literal and relative within
the Open Terrain, but there is Hazard too. If you can
Focus On Fundamentals, You’ll have a Ton Of Fun, And...
You'll Be A Better Skier By The End Of The Day.

Be Prepared, and Go If You Can.

Iconic Tremblant Scenery...

Absolutely Beautiful and Fascinating.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
