2/17/18 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Ski, Apres Mid-Night Edit, Under Construct @ 12:17 A.M.
We would say that Mother Nature has shown a tendency to be Stubborn
about releasing the Icy Grip that currently has a grasp on the entire Regional
Footprint. Mountain Crews are making every possible effort to mitigate the
weather, but the powerful force of Global Currents , in this case originating
in the Pacific Ocean, are affecting all of North America, including Tremblant.
So, we have numerous, but hopefully very temporary, icy zones, and at least
we can say two things...
1) We have not seen any of the Rain that extensively covered the more
southerly latitudes in Eastern North America.(#)
2) Mountain Crews have proactively Groomed to as absolutely flat as
possible, wherever possible, across all Skill Levels of the entire array
of Official Open Trail Data showing Groomed Icons.
2.17.18.Summit.La.Crete.Views.Nord.North.Last.Run.d.jpg
Over time, we have consistently written about the priority of
Mountain Crews to provide for the “Green”, Beginner Terrain
and today is a prime example as Both Nansen and P’tit Bonheur
had some of the most carve-able snow.
2.17.18.Nansen.Best.Surface.Performance.As.Usual.d.jpg
2.17.18.Ptit.Bonheur.Best.Surface.Performance.As.Usual.d.jpg
All the Groomed started out with good carving snow, for a while, but
on steeper pitches, traffic displaced the loose layers, revealing slick
or icy zones.
One thing we got right was the “wear resistant” quality of todays
surfaces. When things are this “Firm”, they’re not only wear resistant,
they’re close to “Bullet-Proof”.
Intermediates should default down a notch for safe results,
and Experts are supposed to be able to handle all of
everything, so beware.
Things Could Be A Lot Worse... and to this point,
we have not had any erosive Wet Weather that was
otherwise attached to more southerly Ski Areas affected
by the recently passing systems.
Another night’s Grooming Shift may accelerate loose
surface depth, and... if the Forecast is true, then -1C and
a Sunny Sky could produce some softening and therefore,
an exceptional Sunday Afternoon!
(#)We believe this inherent advantage of Northerly Latitude significantly
benefits Tremblant in the consistent maintenance of Ambient Sub-Zero
Temps at Cooler Mountain Elevations to support the Alpine Snow Sports
Trail Network.

88(*) Open Trails on the Very Kkkool, But Quickly Warming, Sunny Slopes at #Tremblant .
Bienvenue! Welcome U.S. Holiday Tremblant Guests!
---------------------------------
Please Note: Open Hours Extended To 16:00 Hrs.(4:00 P.M.)
---------------------------------
The Temps Have Been Going Up And Down Like An
Elevator In The Empire State Building.
@ -24C, -11 Below Zero F, This Morning Is Definitely In The “Basement".
But they should rise fairly quickly to -7C by noon.
And The Scenery Is Super Sunny Spectacular!
This Nansen Haut, Upper pic. also shows two important
Mountain-Wide, Groomed Utility Basics.
1) There is enough Natural Snowfall that Mountain Op’s have been able to
“Harvest” Snow off the Trail-Side Groomed and Natural Accumulations to
redistribute laterally across the Trails to Freshly Level and Deepen the Base.
2) Virtually All The Groomed Terrain Is As Smooth As
A Sandy Caribbean Beach, albeit “Tilted” and “Cool”.
“Thank Goodness For “North”, as in Latitude, as the Lifts
are filled with Feedback from Regular Regional Skiers
about how much recent Warm Rain Exposure more Southerly
Ski Areas have been subjected to. No Doubt, we have certainly
felt the peripheral effects from all these wild Up’s ’n Down’s,
and the precipitation they have brought, but in far more minor ways,
and without the saturated soakings over some of the more Southerly
Regional areas.
The consequence is that we have a Solid Base with Icy Bits, But...
It’s All There and Completely Intact, Smooth, and Wall-To-Wall
All Winter White.
The Snow In The Summit Trees Tells You Everything You Need To Know.
Snow In The Trees Tells You Tremblant’s Summit Has Not Been
Exposed To Any Significant “+”C, Above Freezing Temp. Values
because it is completely Un-insulated, surrounded Spherically by
Ambient Air Temps, and when subjected to “Warm” Melts off in hours
or minutes. To This Point... THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED.
Instead of Rain-Soaking(that would have wiped out the Snow in the Trees
in less than an hour), we got a bit of Freezing Rain and there are HUGE
Differences in what that means. Firstly, Freezing Rain Is Not Erosive. Secondly,
despite the Short-Term inconveniences, it can be Ground up very effectively to
become part of the Trail Base where it is Groomed as Fine Particles into the
integrated Snow surfaces.
The Net Result Looks Like This... Or...
The Net Result Can Look Like This...
And...
Below:
This One, Single Picture Can Instantly Tell You
The “Range” Of The Performance Spectrum That Can Be
Experienced Over About 90% Of Tremblant, Right Now.
(Please Note: Obviously, you can see an Expert below and a Beginner above
but what we want to point out is that there is actually a very safe distance
between the two that is not apparent due to the distance compression
effect of telephoto photography. Additionally, the Expert pictured below is
using an adaptive carving technique we will elaborate on tomorrow.)
2.16.18.Sud.South.Resort.Base.Johannsen.Snow.Surface.Performance.Sample.e.jpg
Bottom Line On Conditions:
Complete, Solid, Wall-To-Wall, Super Smooth Base, with Icy Zones,
But... With Tuned, Sharp Edges, Clinically Very Skiable With Fundamentally
Applied Basics Of Balanced Technique and Style Within All Respective Skill
Level Ratings.
--------- Conditions Caveat: ------------
The “Get Real” Clause: If you don’t have Tuned Edges, and you don’t
Use Absolute Speed Control With Elementary Technique Appropriate For
Respective “Green”, Beginner, “Blue”, Intermediate, or “Black”, Expert
Skill Levels, Matched To Your Realistic Skill Level Rated Terrain, You Could
Have Serious “Incidents”, “Problems”, or “Personal Injury” and you will
perceive everything as “Icy”.
If It’s Not Easy for you to stay in control, You Are Either On The Wrong Terrain,
Or Your Gear Is Unsafe And Inappropriate For The Conditions. Period.
(You can Totally fix the second one very inexpensively Overnight at The Ski Shop,
Chalet Des Voyageurs, @ Cabriolet Base, adjacent to P1.)
-------------------------------------------
Weather Notes:
Other Conditions Notes:
It’s going to be a Busy Day on the Mountain, but we think
the “Solid” nature of the Base is actually an excellent basis
for very durable surfaces. This level of “Firmness” is very
simply, quite wear-resistant.
Watch Out For The “Weekend Warrior” Syndrome People.
There are Folks out there that are still having their first
few days of Skiing this season, and fatigue can cause
rapid loss of muscle responsiveness. Scan, Scan, Scan,
where there are Traffic concentrations, Intersections,
Narrowing or Converging Trails. There May Be Multi-Skill
level mixing where the less experienced population can
make unpredictable directional changes or stops.

Tremblant Mountain Op’s has done a miraculous grooming
and trail upgrade job over the past several days of volatile weather
and we are deeply appreciative of their Very Fine efforts!
IMPORTANT REPEAT:
Bottom Line On Conditions:
Complete, Solid, Wall-To-Wall, Super Smooth Base, with Icy Zones,

page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
