T360 Apres Midnight, Apres Ski Edit @ 12:27 A.M.

Here Is Our Best Reason For Progressively Improving Surfaces
And Progressively Expanding Open Terrain For Tomorrow.

Over 36 Hours Of CONTINUOUS Grooming Operations,
from what we hear... More Dedicated, Around The Clock,
Machine Time than ANY previous Recovery effort ever made.

The dropping temps created a very granular Top Layer that was very uniform
over Tremblant’s entire Open Terrain, so once you could establish your
technique to safely descend, you could use that technique anywhere.

Sissy Schuss pictured above, was one of the trails that created
Mini-Glacial “Flow” Zones. Seen above as a zone on the Right side
of the Marker Poles, today many of the Flow-Zones were vastly
reduced overnight and we think that is very doable for tonight as well.

Tomorrow... A BIG Overall Grooming Step Forward,
and Sun, then Snow, during Open Hours. Freezing rain
a possibility After Skiing is Closed, but... at these low
Temp’s, it could be Snow instead.

Tremblant missed the worst of the Warm Wet Weather
that ended up centred quite a bit farther South, so Trails
here are actually in quite good shape, all things considered.

Certainly, there was warm and wet(**), then a significant temperature drop,
so there will be the consequent Icy bits that can result, however...
“Icy” is way better than “Gone”, and that’s a big difference because
Icy can be recovered, restored, fixed, groomed, regenerated, all
within a day or two, but “Gone” is far more difficult to deal with,
so at least Tremblant has the basic coverage still in place to begin
a restoration process.

The “Warm, Wet" part of the past 72 hours has created two principle
forms of surface anomalies, being, 1) bare spots, 2) flows of glacier-like
patches of terrain that are in hollows where moisture was able to “pool”,
as well as on crests or pitches where there was sufficient saturation to
allow “Flow” to occur.

Care is required in order to avoid any incidents where those situations
exist, but they should all be very well marked by hand posted Ski Patrol
Warnings and they are in recognizable patterns, i.e., If you get a “Surprise”,
hitting an icy patch going over one crest, you may proactively slow
down for all crests to avoid any repeats.

Weather Notes:

As close as the Day-time high temps are to Zero C, the important
thing to note in the 14 Long Range Forecast is the consistent
Overnight Sub-Zero C’s that in our opinion, represent the single
largest stabilizing influence for the integrity of the Base.
Observational experience shows that Base Durability is
substantially enhanced by these Overnight lows that offset
almost all Daytime thermal influences when temp’s are low
single digit values.

Conditions Notes:

Post-Thermal Event Recovery Begins Effectiveness Overnight.
Beginner, “Greens” and Intermediate, “Blues”, are usually the
most immediately restored surfaces, and it may take one or two
additional overnight Grooming Cycles to catch up on all Skill Level
Terrain.

What This Means: Things should be Very Good today, and
quite well Optimized over the complete Trail array for the Weekend!

Above And Below: Look Like Two Completely Different Days, but
the reality is there was less than 90 minutes between these shots.
It was almost like someone up there “Flipped A Switch” and Out
came The Sun, and QUICK!

--------------- Conditions Caveat ---------------

Icy or Slick Patches or Zones are the natural consequence of
combined Thermal and Precipitation events.

Absolute Speed Control and Navigational Caution are Mandatory
for Safe Descents. Look For, Recognize, and Anticipate Patterns
of Surface Glitches. Use Extreme Care and Control in New Explorations.

-----------------------------------------------------

Please Note: The Open Trail List Could Change Either Way
on any day like today, so check with Info.Ski Crews for Up-dates.

We’ve said it 50 times, maybe more...

"Things Could have been a lot worse.”, for the most part,
Tremblant’s Northerly Latitude has facilitated a far smaller
exposure than Southerly Latitudes got, and we are very thankful
for that.

Local Weather and Conditions Contextual Observations:

(**)This is a Significant Indicator Of Regional Conditions
Over a 23 Hour Period From Noon on 2.20.18 to
Noon on 2.21.18(yesterday) at one single Location.

This is the Creek that runs out of the Versant Nord, North Side
Parking Area. It diagonally crosses under the Entrance Road,
just outside the Gate, to run under the Bridge at the Three-Way
Arret(stop) Sign.

Before: (about 1:45 P.M., 2.20.18)

In almost 20 years, latest including sometimes daily photographic observations at this
specific location, we do not think we have ever seen such a radical one day difference.
We would estimate the difference in depth to be approximately 60cm’s or 24 inches.

After: (about 13:10 P.M., 2.21.18(yesterday))

Regarding the Above 2 Pic’s: It may seem contradictory to see
the sudden appearance of so much overflowing water running
off the Mountain in such a short time, and then see so little
relative effect on Trail surfaces, however, what we are theorizing
has happened is that instead of soaking into surfaces, the deep,
seasonal frost has acted as a barrier and basically shed off the
water very quickly? That theory might be supportable if the creek
returns to it’s normal level equally quickly now that the precipitation
has ceased? We hope to be able to get back there tomorrow for
another pic. We welcome any educated or professional insight into this
(or any Geophysical activity we report on), outside expertise can add
understanding to. Contact us on F.B. or Twtr with this specific date
referenced if you have input.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
