T360 Early Apres Ski Edit Under Construct @ 6:45 P.M.

Wow... To begin with the Open Trail Count was revised
downward to 59(*) Open. That was understandable because
it was evident in using some trails that safety was a legitimate
concern and we fully support the call of the Ski Patrol
today in doing so.

We had a camera malfunction right at the very beginning, so
no pic’s and we’ll have to try to write as clearly as we can on
the days challenges.

A review of the REVISED Open Trail List will tell you
most of what you need to know, and it will also tell you
what we were right about this morning.

Firstly... Versant Sud, the South Side, took a direct Wind/Weather
Facing Hit. The initial hint that was a potential, was the suggestion
by Tremblant.ca in the first Official Snow Report to "to go straight
to the North Side where one will find the best conditions...”

One run on the South down Taschereau(23) to Kandahar(22), then
to Desserres(20), was enough to realize the Laws Of Physics had
taken over beyond anything Humans could do in an immediate sense.

In the Mean-time, and as a very stark and contradictory contrast...
A run down Cossak very oddly had better Snow Control Surfaces
than P’tit Bonheur??? And further, Expo Pitch was almost as good
as Cossak??? Where did that come from? As we wrote this morning...

"If we had to guess, we’d say the Lowell Thomas to Devils River
zones could see favour if the potential snow was to occur.”

As fate would have it, circumstances prevented us from getting to
Devils River today but Cossak is only about 150 metres adjacently
away, so we think it was still a good call. If anyone reading can verify
Descent quality on Devils River for today, please let us know via FB
or Twitter.

For Tomorrow...

Temps are supposed to drop from a middle-night of -3C
and rise to +2C by Mid-Day. A moderate West Wind and
the possibility of a partially Sunny Sky may allow some
softening. Still too early to call accurately with temps
so close to Zero. Could go either way, but a fairly sure
sign may be the first Open Trail Number if up from 59.

Considering all the Weather Anomalies...

There Should Be Many Very Fine Surfaces and Beautifully Performing,
Top-To-Bottom Trail Descents like this Wonderful Example.

(That May Be Variable On A Daily Case By Case Basis Due to Weather Factors.)

Versant Soleil was Off-line for a while earlier this week for
one of the largest concentrations of Man/Machine Grooming
Restoration Operations ever undertaken here at Tremblant.
The Superb Results legitimately deserve attention and the
quality of Trail #43, Tiguidou stands out within that effort
as a marker of accomplishment.

Is the whole Sector Perfect? No, but it certainly approaches very
high percentages of “Optimized”, which recognizes that the Hand of
Mother Nature is always capable of generating Glitches over the
very best efforts of Humans. Caution is still required in initial
explorations for all Skill Levels in All Terrain for the 'a la Carte
patterns du Jour.

There have been similar examples of Very Fine Descents in all Open
Sectors at Tremblant and all you need to do is responsibly use
Conservative Speed and Absolute Steering and Braking Control
to evaluate appropriately matched Terrain to the capability of
your Skills and Equipment.

Below:
This is one of a rapid burst series we got with a very long telephoto
on lower Beauchemin about 40 hours ago. The reason it’s still valuable
is that even though the resolution and detail are far from ideal due
to overcast and falling snow filters, it is 100% accurate at illustrating
the Speed, Grip and Depth of adequate soft top-layers to support the
aggressive, and very athletic Carved Skiing Technique that you have
been able to apply at Tremblant, Over Complete Summit-To-Base
Descent Lines... all along, when some of your friends may have told you
it was a “Sheet Of Ice”.

There are Icy bits out there, but the point is that, a) they are inevitable
due to the combination of Weather Factors that have, and are still
passing over the entire Nor-East Quadrant of North America, and...
b) compared to the vast majority of very well Groomed Trail Surfaces,
they have been of comparatively small dimensional area, so-far, here at Tremblant,
c) in these near, but just below Zero C overnight temps, they are usually smaller
and smaller each morning after successive overnight grooming cycles.
-Please Note with respect to Icy Bits, that any references could, probably will
change moving forward, depending on exact daytime “+” value temps, and
further, how many hours those temps might span during any given day.

The degree of Iciness you may possibly experience is directly proportional
to your willingness to a)... responsibly explore and then focus on the user friendly
descents du Jour, as well as b)... the state of Tune of your Ski/Board Edges. Period.

One of Our “Pet Peeves”...

This is one annoying “issue” with the quality of User Feedback we’re
seeing, which is literally to follow a group of obvious Intermediates
down McCulloch, a Clearly Labelled Black Diamond, Expert Trail, all
the way to the TGV Quad, then overhear loud complaining from them
about the difficulties they had. Skiers and Boarders on Terrain that is
matched to their actual Skill Level will have a Great Day and it is illogical
and misrepresentative to complain about Trail Conditions of Terrain
Clearly Labeled above the users Skill Level.
We find that particularly
egregious when done in a Lift Line where it can be clearly overheard by
many, and could possibly influence other Skiers/Boarders falsely.

Choosing Challenging Terrain can be a good thing, but only on the basis of
Learning New Adaptive Competence and Growing, Developing, Practicing
and actually Improving, and not whining or blaming anything other than
poor personal choices or skills.

Weather Notes:

It Is Important To Note That With These “Tipping Point” Weather Factors
Mother Nature can cause Spontaneous Changes IN ANY DIRECTION
Within Fractions Of An Hour.

Wind Facing Exposures will still feel cool, so while insulation
may not be critical at these very mild winter temp’s, seals
and overlaps will be, in order to keep out drafts.

---------------------- Conditions Caveat : ------------------

The Immense Forces(including, but not limited to:”Thermal” or “Solar” or
“Wind”), Of Mother Nature And User Traffic Volume, Can Spontaneously
Generate Naturally Forming Icy Hazards During Any Part Of A Daily
“Open” and/or Weather Period, When Air Temp’s are Within Single Digit
Values Crossing to Above or Below, Zero C.

This is Outside of Human Control.

Know And Obey The Mountain Code Of Conduct.

User Care, Absolute Stopping and Steering Control,
And Cautious Speed Regulation Are Required In All Descents.

Stay Within Skill Level Posted Signage,
ESPECIALLY... Localized, Hand Posted On Site Ski Patrol Signs.

--------------------------------------------------------------

It Is Possible That The Wind Direction May Favour Conditions
In Particular(and somewhat unpredictable, depending on velocity
based “Swirl”), Sectors. For One Example... If we had to guess,
we’d say the Lowell Thomas to Devils River zones could see favour
if the potential snow was to occur.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
