4/12/18 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski Edit @ 10:37 P.M.

-----------------------------------------------------

Official Bonus Weekend, April 21, 22, 2018 CONFIRMED.
Detail following in morning post.

---------------------------------------------------------

The White Tinge You Can See In The Trail-Side
Trees Under Close Examination, Is All You Need To Know
About “Cool” Winter Survival At Tremblant.

The delicate Snow you can see in Trail-side tree boughs is
subject to “Warm” from every direction and can disappear
in hours or even minutes with any significant “+” value temps.
Its continued visibility is confirmation of minimal thermal influence.

Another Excellent April Skiing Day
With Loads of “Grip” Everywhere!

Clinically Speaking... it was still a primarily “Winter” feel to the day,
however, Secondarily, there was just a touch of softness that was
detectable underfoot in the enhanced grip level while Carving on
steep pitches, and a slightly “Thicker” feel underfoot on Intermediate,
Blue, and Beginner, Green rated terrain.

Along with the “Touch of Spring”, there was occasionally a very slight bit
of surface resistance or drag that could be felt. If you were here yesterday,
you may have been more sensitive to it today, simply because of the contrast
in “Glide” characteristics. Today you needed to add a wee bit of skating action
on plateau’s to maintain speed. If you were not here yesterday, arriving and
skiing today would still seem almost unbelievably “Winter”. The coverage is
Wall-To-Wall, Top-To-Bottom, totally in place, almost exactly the way it was on
February 12th, or March 12th, a bit surreal on April 12th, for sure.

The Temp Spread between Summit and Base was closer today. The Summit
just got into the “+” C, above Zero, for a couple of hours, but only by a degree,
so the White Snow/Frost in the Trees from yesterdays Snowfall, survived through
it all. Temp’s were headed back down by Last Run, and.... we’re happy to report...
it was Snowing.

Tomorrow... During Open Hours... Mainly Sunny, Temps up to +7C
at Sud, South Side, Resort Base, so it is almost certain that the
whole Mountain may see variable degrees of Spring Thaw.
The North Side will have the least exposure, but it will not escape
altogether.

If you can... coated or waxed Ski/Board Bases with appropriate
“Warm” range waxes will be very big assets for tomorrow.
We are using a Hydrophobic Polymer, water repellant base coating
with great results, but any water shedding base treatment will
help you keep Glide.

62(*) Open Trails On The Official, New, #2 Snowfall Accumulation, 21st Century, at #Tremblant .

This Is Actually Now The #2 Annual Snowfall Accumulation
In 21 Years We Have Stat’s For.

Consequently, the Quality and the Scope of Excellent Terrain is
directly proportional. In the closing phases of the Season, there
may be limited Open Terrain, as it is @ 62(*) today, but it is not due
to a lack of Snow, and certainly not due to a lack of Quality. What is
Open is Exceptionally Fine.

Below: April 12th, 2018 Tremblant360 “Proof Of Snow"

Please Note: The Ski Pole you see pushed straight into the Snow
at this Banzai Trail-Side location, was able to be submerged below
the surface, but we left it visible for obvious reasons. It is 122cms,
48 inches(4 feet) in length, so we estimate the natural snowpack here
is just under 5 feet deep.

The Skis are 160’s, but we could not push them in further due to the
Ski Brakes facing out and getting jammed full of snow.

The point is... it’s April 12th and there’s TON’S Of Snow At Tremblant!

This above is actually from the day before yesterday. We’re using it
here because we want to highlight the Winch Groomed Centre, which
has survived very nicely due to overall low traffic volume.

There were Moguls building during the day yesterday, and by afternoon,
they looked like this below. Feedback we got from Skiers on Expo describe
these descent surfaces as soft, shred-able with a firm but not overly icy base.

For Beginners and Intermediates:

We had the outright Joy of several runs over trail surfaces getting
snow’d on and looking like this below. It will also give you an idea
about how smooth the Green Terrain Felt. It did not all look exactly
like this, but it definitely Skied just like this.

Weather Notes:

When yesterdays forecast called for a rainy mix, we called for
the probability of All Snow at Cooler Mountain Elevations, so
we got that one right. We think the very same possibility exists
for today as well. We could be wrong, but... the ambient air
temp. is actually supposed to be -1 C Cooler today than the
temps were yesterday when Snow fell over the Mountain. For that
reason, we think the odds are still reasonably good for a Snowy outcome.

If there is a “Co-Factor” we think may enhance the likelihood of “Snow”,
it might be the fact that the wind is indicated from the “North”.
As such, at atmospheric strata heights above the Mountain, those
Northerly Winds may be inherently cooler? We even suspect there
could be an Orographic Precip. event, so for that reason, we’re
keeping fingers crossed for good luck that it could be Snow.

Conditions Notes:

Last Run On Versant Nord, the North Side yesterday was possibly
the Best Run Of The Season on the Descent Path we commonly use.
It was close to a Miracle of the very sweetest possible Fluffy Powder
Coating over a base as smooth as the paint job on your new Rolls-Royce.

This WONDERFUL experience was from Summit-To-Base Complete.

A Good Portion of the day, Possibly even the whole day, today...
may be identical.

So Far This Season... Mother Nature has blessed us with just the right
temp’s(even though somedays by only a single degree!), to keep it
generally(#) all SNOW... Will She Repeat Again Today???

Below: Eventually, our ability to take pictures was reduced to “Not”
due to Snow-Smeared Lens and Swamped Out Camera Controls that
finally went into Default Shut-Down Mode. We describe that as a
“Happy Problem” when there’s too much snow to keep off the camera,
but in April?

Review attached Pic’s, Plan Attendance Accordingly!

(#) There were Icy/Frozen Rain incidents this season,
for sure, but we don’t count them because they are not erosive,
and eventually get absorbed by either Grooming or Traffic.
