T360 Evening Apres Ski Introduction @ 10:24 P.M.

Please Note: Additional Apres Ski, attached below in “Reply”.

Sorry for the delay in this update. We underestimated the
additional time that a 5:00 P.M. “Last Run” would take,
and it turns out that we got to Ski Last Run at 5:15 at
the TGV Quad due to the fact that the Gondola is off-line,
so with Flying Mile Open ’til 5:00, they are allowing
those who may catch Last Run there, additional time
at TGV for those who need to go to Versant Nord, North.

The Skiing is Excellent Frosted Spring. There is still
snow in the Summit Trees at Last Run.

There are parties at almost every corner, and the atmosphere
is exuberant and enthusiastic. How could it be anything else
with Sooooo much snow here!

“Soooo Much Snow”???

Above:
This is the second time in 48 hours we have found ambient Trail-Side
Snowpack to be between 4 and 5 Feet deep, between 122 and 152 cm’s.
This time in the Nord, North, Lowell Thomas sector. Please Note the Ski
Pole handle pushed straight into the snow. We could submerge it here,
but we leave it just visible for the sake of the picture. The Pole is 122cm’s/48 inches.

Everything Ended Up Soft...

Here Is The Basis For Your Tremblant
Ski Season 2017/2018, Bonus Weekend,
April 21st and 22nd, 2018.

If you have a picture of Tremblant from any past season
that looks this good on April 20th, please let us know how
we can get a copy from you.

Below:
In yesterday’s prelude to the weekend, we talked about
some unique access situations we had been informed of
due to lift maintenance and construction site safety
regulations. As an example, we used McCulloch access
Via Trail # 17 Dunzee.

Here is a better photograph of Dunzee. It is the Trail running
diagonally from Upper Left, to Lower Right, to join at McCulloch
just below the Summit, and under the TGV Quad Chair.

Please Additionally Note:

Zig-Zag and Vertige Winch Groomed!!!
On April 21st ?!?!?! Wow!

This is only one example of the unique access
this Bonus Weekend, due to construction work sites
that necessitate safety restrictions. Stay tuned and
stay in touch with Mountain Info. Ski Crews, it is possible
you may see Open trail numbers go up or down.

Conditions Notes: A)

Will Start Out “Firm”, maybe some “Froze”, but very, very soon...
it will Ski and Shred Like This:

This scene above is from the last day with almost exactly what today
looks like, back on April 5th. Absolutely amazing that we should have
such a great run of “Winter” to end the Season with. One for the history
books, for sure. The basic frame of reference here is that this winter is
the second highest Seasonal Accumulation in 21 years of Stat’s we have.

SUNSCREEN ALERT !!!

Conditions Notes: B)

We consider ourselves very, very fortunate to have so much
of Versant Nord, the North Side, “Lowell Thomas” sector open.
This zone is one of the most well endowed natural snow areas
on the entire Mountain due to prevailing wind contour drifting.
Based on what we thought might be restrictions regarding the
New Lowell Thomas High Speed Detachable Quad Chair install,
or more specifically the removal of the old Fixed Triple Chair, we
would have to say that there has been a lot of effort put into
preparing this terrain for Opening. We are most grateful for
that because this sector may not only hold some of the best
conditions today(Banzai and Marie-Claude Asselin GROOMED
on April 21st !!!), but it also stays the coolest and gets early shade,
so those Great conditions there may also be the most “All Day”
durable.

REPEAT From Prelude to Weekend:

Utility Notes:

What we feel very certain predicting, are the hours of the sweetest skiing
being between 9:30 and 2:30, due to the overnight sub-zeros and the
eventual afternoon warming.

For those reasons we are recommending:

1) You have a late breakfast and late lunch so
you do not need to stop when the conditions are ideal.

2) The earlier you start, the more you need sharp edges.

3) Waxing or Base Coatings for “Warm” Range Temps will be
a big asset for Speed and Glide.

Of course there’s only one answer worth considering...

Ski Tremblant If You Can!!!

Please Note:
Very early post, subject to morning Open Trail Confirmations.
We will publish the statistical data, however due to the complexities
of conditions and access, our primary focus will be on an early
and thorough Apres Ski.

T360 Apres Ski...

There was a lot of “Spring” in the air, and consequently in Softened Surfaces too,
however, there was way more “Winter” than any normal April 21st, so in balance,
we still give winter the advantage, especially if you observe the Wall-to-Wall coverage.

Groomed Trails started out immaculate, and many stayed that way all day.
The example above, Fuddle Duddle, Haut, Upper, has been moguls for most
of the season, today, as flat as you can see. With it’s moderate pitch angle,
today it’s a prime learning/advancement trail of exceptional smoothness.

On Versant Sud, South Side, Nansen was another immaculate trail
and... with surprising little saturation on the lower portions.

People were going crazy over Expo. Fabulously positive
feedback on Expo all day...

From top to bottom, the Expo soft mogul performance was Expert easy
and forgiving with mid-winter, virtually glitch-free coverage. This shot
below taken from the Expo Quad, just as it rises out/up from the base,
looking diagonally across the runout mogul field below the final pitch.

People were going Bump-Crazy everywhere moguls formed.
They were all soft, you could blast straight through them, if necessary.

Quite a few trails developed a “One-Groove” track as traffic
naturally seemed to go to a smooth centre line that was well
compacted. To go off that centre track meant you better
have your Speed Compensators dialled in, because the thicker
tracked up outboard sides often had very quickly felt resistance.
If you weren’t ready for it, the sudden “Whoa” was sometimes
enough to try to toss you forward.

There was a good crowd, but not enough to create much in the way of lines,
in the “Singles” line, we were never more than 2 or 3 minutes. By the end
of the day, it was Ski-On Lapping, as quick a you could go!

Generally, the conditions were almost exactly as we expected.
It’s still a bit Bizarre to see the coverage. Riding up TGV, looking
at McCulloch, you might well think it was the beginning of March...

Below: Of course there’s some obvious solar generated heat in the
surfaces, but no more so than would be present on any first week in
March if it was “In like a lamb”, so having that feel here in the third
week of April just adds to the disbelief that tomorrow could actually
be the last day of the season...

(We think this might be one of the best McCulloch action shots
we’ve gotten in a long time off the TGV Quad. Bouncing/moving
chairlifts are always challenging for telephoto’s, but every so often
we luck out!)

Repeat for tomorrow?

Looks like it, so-far, maybe even a couple of degrees warmer....

In the mean-time, knowledgable Experts from around the region
are focused on Tremblant for some of the seasons best skiing
right on up to the last moment the lifts are open.

Below: 4.21.18.Nord.North.Sissy.Schuss.Wide.Open.Easy.jpg

Multi-Skill Level Utility Sample.

For ambitious Beginners that have solid braking
and turning control, the wide, flat, and super-smooth
Blue terrain offers soft forgiveness and loads of
space to work on developing technique with some
speed that comes with a bit more pitch angle.

As an Intermediate it would be hard to imaging
more appropriate terrain than this sample below,
for easy fun and practice. With dozens of descent
line options like this, finding a continuous flow of
rhythmic turning terrain was always just around
the next bend in the trail, for the entire day.

As an Expert, after running moguls or tight, narrow
or steep trails for a few hours, relaxed cruising on
some wide open more gentle terrain lets you catch
your breath, reset your tired quad muscles, or work
on finessed carving edge-set.
