11/28/18 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski @ 10:13 P.M.

Snow surfaces were very fast, and
with safe distance vision, you could
actually use higher level speeds to
take advantage of it all.

The Snowfall continues to be “Winter” in feel and
performance. That might seem odd with temps
so close to Zero C, but the little “Bite” in the coolness
of the winds on the Mountain is all you need to remind
you that at least here at Tremblant, winter is not only
“On the way”, but actually has a solid grip on conditions
right now.

All the new snow is still relatively light, as in
feeling surprisingly dry, low internal humidity.
If you were a Beginner or taking a lesson,
this is easy snow to learn on. High grip and
low friction allow rapid, effective, learning progress.

At this stage it’s difficult to say when some of this
new terrain will be available, but we think it’s a safe
bet to say the longest it would be, would be for the
weekend of the 24Hr. Children's Charity Fundraiser.

Tremblant has always made a big effort to have loads
of alternate terrain for regular folks out for a day on
the slopes while the Marathon Course is being used.
You may be looking at the first of those preparations.

Excellent early season conditions across
all open terrain, set against some of the
most spectacular winter scenery on Earth.

(No camera invented can do justice to this scene,
for “Best Results”, put yourself in the picture!)

This scene below is from the right side of the scene above
as the Skier descends along the edge of Versant Nord, North
Side Beauchemin Haut, Upper. Due to a sustained Easterly
wind direction this zone had for multiple hours, there is a
substantial drift-in natural snow feature running adjacent
to this right side trail edge for hundreds of descending linear
metres. We would refer to that as a “Sweet Spot”(#) for the day.

Snow that falls below, but very close to Zero C can be heavy
or thick, but what has come so far in the past 36 hours or so
is not as heavy as you might expect. For that reason we think
the snow was formed at considerable atmospheric elevation above
the Mountain, where cooler temps may be responsible for the
lightness of what’s actually landing on the ground.

Nansen had very soft, easy, and untracked powder edges at
Last Run. It was also still snowing at that time, so there is
good potential for that sector to have some very sweet opening
First Tracks today.

Weather Notes:

Considering that these forecast values are for
the Sud, South, Resort Base Level, what we would
hope to see up on the Mountain is a continuation of
what appears to be the much cooler, high atmospheric
elevation formation of natural snowfall that is light and
low friction. So far, so good...

Conditions Notes:

We would be very happy to see either the continuation
of the existing lightness in the fallen snow, or the forecast
for wet snow, for the obvious benefit to trail surfaces,
however... At these temps floating around the freezing
mark, there are tipping point wild cards that could
very briefly see spring-like influences.

We’ve been very lucky so far that the elevation differential
of the typical -4C cooler temps up on the Mountain have
kept the Alpine Snow Sports Trail Network all snow, with
all the primarily desirable qualities of “winter".

The “Default” position that we are very grateful for is “Smooth”.
Any of the Temp. dips or blips above or below Zero C that can
generate slick or icy bits, are all way, way, easier when Mountain
Crews have rendered out such universal Smoothness. Even during
the recent days of Snow-Cloud-Fog reduced vision, the basic
smoothness has allowed very reliable safe passage.

While the overwhelming majority of surfaces have been
“Very Fine” to “Excellent” for any early season metrics,
each day has produced “Sweet Spots”(#) of uniquely optimized
factors that stand out within the array. It has been a joy to
explore and discover every day so-far, and today should be
no different.

Ongoing Terrain Development News.

As One Example Only... Snowmaking has seen a focus on lower
Fuddle-Duddle and Sissy Schuss. Mountain Crews have been
processing some of that and below are 48 Hour Spread “Before”
and “After” pic.s of the lower portion of Sissy Schuss visible
from Beauchemin Bas, Lower.

We chose this sample because it will be important to Park
Fans who will see the relocation of the Versant Nord, North
Park from Rope Tow, down to this new location at Sissy Schuss
Bas, Lower. Looks like your Park line-up is at least laying down the
foundations for the big works to follow.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
