40(*) Open Trails on Sud, South, Nord, North Sectors at #Tremblant .

------------- Event Notice ----------------

24Hr. Children’s Charity Fundraiser starts Saturday @ 12:00
Runs all night on Beauvallon, ends at 12:00 at Johannsen
Trail/Resort Base, Versant Sud, South Side.

Detail Posted Below. Includes Official Event Link.

------------------------------------------------

It’s KKKkkkkool Out There as Mother Nature
Blows The Forecast Overnight Low Away.

Clinically speaking, and weather notwithstanding,
the Skiing will be very fine compared to any 12/9
in the records. There’s just soooo much Snow here.
The temp is an anomaly(**). Deal with it, and make the best
of the day by Layering Adaptation.

At Least It’s Forecast To Be Sunny!

Yesterday was the first “Blue Sky” day in over 2 weeks.
That was actually fortunate for this Ski Resort, because
there was some snowfall virtually every day for those
2 weeks, not to mention the often very close to Zero C
temps, in which the overcast kept our snow sheltered
from solar force.

Zoom-in Sector Focus, Sud, South Summit/TGV Sectors:

We’re Zooming in on a portion of the above panoramic

Above: What is important in the above are, 1) the overall snowfall
coverage across the entire Mountain that is naturally filling
in all of the Alpine Ski/Board Trail Network, 2) the evidence of
Trails visibly in preparation process for opening.

Re #1): If you look to the Screen-Left above, you will see
an “S” shaped Trail with a series of snowmaking “Big Bumps”
running it’s entire length. That is Official Trail # 12, “Erik Guay”.
The big bumps have been there for several days. There are
at least 2 possible Opening scenario’s for this trail that we’ve
observed here and elsewhere the “Big Bump” fill-in strategy
is used.

a) Open with “Big Bumps” intact, as kind of an organic terrain park.
b) Open with the big bumps Groomed flat as an Interstate Hwy.,
as a Front Side Carving nirvana.

It will be popular either way, and judging by these preparations,
it could be “Soon”?

Re: # 2): If you look at the Screen-Right, you will observe a cloud
of snowmaking, just behind the Summit Crest to the right of the Soleil
Quad top. This is the snowmaking on the summit portions of Trail # 59,
Duncan Haut, Upper. There is snowmaking extending the entire length of
Duncan, right to the Versant Nord, North Side base. The Duncan trail is a
major total vertical boulevard descent that facilitates access to one half
of Versant Nord, the North Side that is extremely popular with locals,
so it’s great news to see that in progress.

These are only 2 samples of the extensive trail development
currently underway at Tremblant. We think you may find
a rapid increase in the Open Trail numbers again, as soon as
tomorrow, but most likely over the course of the next week.

Weather Notes:

Very cool to begin, but rising rapidly.

Please Note: There is a substantial difference between the Forecast
and Actual temp. values this morning. We expect that may even out
later on around noon hour, but when it starts out cold, it can
sometimes stay that way all day, so you need to be ready for that.

(**)Cold Weather Caveat:

Sud, South, Base Resort Level at -26C on The
Weather Network current display just before
the Mountain opens, means the Elevation Differential
could typically see the Summit at -30C. That’s nippy
in our books, and definitely not historically normal for
Dec. 8th.

The temps could rise by as much as 14C to -12C or so,
by shortly after noon.

Extreme early morning cold is hazardous, especially so
for Children. Parents are advised to carefully monitor young
kids for signs of frost exposure and to increase frequency
of warming breaks until the atmosphere builds some heat.

The Multi-Decade Historic Average Daytime Temp
for December 8, is -2C, 28F, so this is an anomaly.

“We Are Not Alone”

Just for perspective...

There are “Heavy Snow and Ice” Warnings as far as South Carolina
this morning. Lubbock, in northern Texas, has gotten more snow today
(10 inches), than they normally get in a year!

Conditions Notes:

For December 8, the coverage is fantastic. The base is very firm
and there are some icy bits that are generally associated with
steeper pitches and/or wind exposed zones, and/or traffic
concentrations in narrow accesses.

It is superb early season Winter and all it asks you for is
to bring tuned edges to optimize control moves of direction,
speed and braking.

It is important to match Actual Skill Level with Terrain/Trail
selection. This is not a good time for Intermediates to be
using Expert trails because the tendency of steeper pitches
have icy bits underneath. If you find yourself slip-sliding
around, step down 1 level in trail difficulty and be safe.

Today is the day of the annual 24Hour Children’s Charity Fundraiser.

This 24 hour marathon uses Versant Sud, South Side Beauvallon
as the descent to the Resort Base where all the Start/Finish,
Grandstand and timing/team support infrastructure is installed.

Below we can see the Summit level course barriers set up
off the Gondola Off-load. These barriers extend all the way
down La Crete to the top of Beauvallon which also has fully
fenced edges to protect both participants and spectators.
The event kicks off at exactly 12:00 Noon and ends 24
hours later, tomorrow. Event Staff will be all over the place
keeping strict control for course safety, and to direct the public
to the terrain available for todays use.

Consult Mountain Info.Ski Crews in their Yellow? Jackets
for all Public Trail Access during the event.

Versant Nord, the North Side, has extra, freshly Open terrain
to help compensate and it should all be be in fine opening shape.

Due to recent cold and the firm base with intermittent icy bits,
caution with speed is essential on initial explorations. Verify safe
passage BEFORE ripping around.

Please Note: We have archived Weather and Traffic Observations
for Historic/Archival Purposes. We would like to point out that
for regular members of the Skiing and Boarding public who
may be concerned about the busy 24Hr. Children’s Charity
Event, there was no restriction to Mountain Lift access at all.
This was an excellent weekend of expanded and very well
prepared Open Terrain with relatively low public traffic and
we would encourage all Ski/Board Fans to attend in future for
all the benefits typically put in place for this weekend. Individual
pic. frames are accurately time stamped.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
