Here is what your overall day may look like at Tremblant.

Here is what you can do pretty much all day
at Tremblant if you have the Skills and
Tuned-Up Equipment:

the lateral turning force is being completely
contained by the carving edges of the skis, in
a GS spec. race course, by only the grip in the
trail surface. The centrifugal force experienced
by the skier can be well over 1g., so if it will
hold all that, it’s sure going to hold 99%
of all recreational skiers that will never make
half that lateral turning force.
So then, anyone who tells you it’s “Too Icy”,
when these kids are racing on the same substrates
as everyone else with this obvious level of grip,
that person who tells you its too icy either has
bad or insufficient Skill Level technique, or...
badly malfunctioning equipment, i.e., “Dull Edges”
Here is maybe what you need...???
You need the very best edges you can bring on your existing
skis to begin with, but... if you can...
This is definitely one Alpine, Downhill, Skiing Application
that can be better executed with the right tools.
Consequently, if you can...
This might be one conditions-type candidate for owning
an old pair of Slalom race skis. They eat “icy" for breakfast.

the snow underneath to shear off in small steps. If you lean that edge in
for a carved turn, it has very good grip at these loose top layer depths.
These soft top layer surfaces are also excellent for Parallel style turns
of either short or long radius.
Otherwise...
With the best edges on your own skis, your Skiing experience
is going to get easier and "more easier", every passing day with
consecutive Sub-Zero C 24hr cycles. This is because of the incrementally
increasing refinement repeated nightly grooming renders in those stable,
Sub-Zero cool temp’s., not to mention the addition of Snowmaking.

In the mean-time, you can hang out with these “Shady Characters”
on Versant Nord, the North Side. As the sun goes over the Mountain,
this side gets all the surface shade and the ambient light turns blue/green
with increasing late afternoon darkness.

grip here with a pair of Short Radius Slalom Race Skis. A lot of
the surface contours along the descent path of Duncan are very
well spaced for an 11 to 13 metre turning radius ski and it is possible
to use the contours for jumped airborne turns, for every turn,
if you have the muscle to do it.

As far as we know, there are still a few sets of these skis
available at Daniel LaChance.
Of Course... we may have preference for style or equipment,
but in reality, there are no hard rules, so as long as you’re
having safe, responsible fun, any style of ski you prefer is
going to work better with sharp edges right now.
Weather Notes:
Cool for sure, but at least the wind component is indicated
at low speeds from a basic Northerly position that would be
rising up over the Beauvallon/Nansen sectors, heading for
Duncan across the Summit.
We would like to point out that with a similar forecast yesterday,
standing in any sunny, wind sheltered, safe, Trail-side rest spot,
there was very noticeable heat in any direct solar energy, so that
may be the same today.

Currently, there are no Sous Bois, Glade, Hors Piste, Un-Groomed
trails Open. As far as we know, that is for safety. We monitor
the Sous Bois from a few key zones and we can tell you there
is a thick crust from the warm wet weather of 72 hours ago that
inhibits safe turning capability.
The Groomed trail list should be experiencing an incremental
refinement in the consistency of depths for the loose, top layers.
It is a predominantly granular machine generated mix that does include
some natural snow for a blended smooth final corduroy result.
During the course of the day, traffic patterns may reveal very firm
or icy bits. You should be able to see those patterns evolve and
use proactive navigation and speed control to avoid potential
areas of difficulty or hazard.
No “Jammers” please. Sudden or abrupt, forceful jamming of
turning effort can result in sudden loss of traction. Apply control
moves with controlled speed and smooth engagement for maximum
efficiency.
It’s the Christmas/New Years Holiday Time Period. There are
many new Tremblant Guests that may be unfamiliar with the
area, or may be Beginners or Intermediates that can sometimes
make unpredictable speed or directional changes. The Holidays
have increased attendance so speed control and extra passing
margins are required at all times in order to maintain safety.

Working with Mother Nature can be challenging
but Mountain Crews here are the Masters of
rendering the best groomed surfaces possible for
all Skill Level rated terrain. Use appropriate care,
match actual individual skills with terrain selection
and you will have great Holidays on the slopes
here at Tremblant!
