We frequently use this trail segment as an indicator of overall
sector and Mountain conditions status because it, and its parallel
adjacent trail, Marie-Claude Asselin are pure, natural snow only
trails that are very sensitive to weather and use. They can only
be groomed when there is an abundance of snow, so that is the
first major benefit. The second major benefit is that we say when
this “Black Diamond” rated trail is in this super-smooth, super
high-traction, ice free, all snow, base condition, we would take
a confident Intermediate Skier with solid, fundamental “Hockey Stop”
skills, on its lower descent portion without hesitation. What you see
above are 2 Intermediate Skiers doing exactly that, and having a great
time in the process. What you don’t get with this photo are “Whoop’s”
and “Hollers” of joyful expression being shouted out with the joy and
fun of the moment as they work their way down.
What is the greatness of this trail sample above, and many others
like it, is that as Experts, we can let these folks descend, and when
the trail is clear, we can literally carve our descent on this trail with
our 11 metre, 160 Cm’s, Slalom Race Skis. In our opinion, this
helps define the versatility we speak of in Tremblant’s current
state of all-winter refinement. There is a huge degree of “Forgiveness”
in todays conditions that allows, and even facilitates, multi-skill level
enjoyment across the entire footprint of the Mountain.
While it may be common to associate refined terrain versatility
with the ability for Beginners and Intermediates to explore
additional challenge, there is no doubt in our opinion that it
flows in the other direction as well with specific reference to
the current technique application of carving turns rather than
skidding turns. We see a huge population of Experts spending
time on Blue, and even Green terrain that is immaculately smooth,
utilizing safe speed to generate extreme angles of inclination in
sequentially alternating arch’s of razor sharp tracks for full descents
that approach the lateral G-loads that are equal to, or greater than
what a Race Car can achieve on a Race Track. They are primarily using
short radius, shorter lengths between 155 to 170cm's Slalom style skis
with very dramatic side-cuts in the 10 to 12 metre turning radius range.
In that regard, Tremblant’s Groomed terrain is a spectacularly diverse
range of pitches, lengths and widths that can turn any Experts quad
muscles into Jello after just a few hours of concentrated training lapping.
The thrill of the skill is addictive.

The finished width of Versant Soleil Trail #95, Algonquin
is just about comparable to the AutoRoute, I-95, the 401,
or any other major controlled access highway, and generally,
groomed as smooth as a golf course fairway. It is not
unusual to see all skill levels of skiers sharing the space.
For Beginners, the gentle pitch angle makes it an easy
learning trail, while a bit of safe speed makes the contours
come alive for Experts and it’s possible to make a lot
of turns in the air if you study the topography carefully
with a couple of careful investigation runs.

forecasted and what the differences between previous
forecasted and actuals are, we might theorize an actual
low tonight of -22C +/-???

Mountain traffic has not been as busy as we might have expected
for the Quebec Spring School Break, at least so-far. Consequently
if that was to be the case again today, the trail conditions across the
whole Mountain should remain at the very highest All-Day quality
possible.
In a way, we don’t think it would really matter all that much, even
if there was more traffic because there is just soooo much snow,
and it’s been so well integrated into the groomed base. Combined
with the super-cool overnights, the results should freeze-dry the
crispness in and the humidity out and render traffic resistant surfaces.
