It’s An Official Tremblant360 “Super Season”!(##)
And the very snowy reason you can’t see more than this today!

taking the total season-to-date accumulation from 496cm’s, to above
500cm’s/16 feet, 5 inches.
Our definition of a “Super-Season” is any accumulation in a single season
that exceeds the 21 year seasonal TOTAL average(418cm's) by 20%, or more.
We like to highlight this statistical achievement because of the beneficial
quality so much snow makes throughout the entire Tremblant Alpine Snow
Sports Trail/Terrain Network. When there is this much snow, relatively speaking,
everything is excellent!
From a practical point of view, it’s going to be very messy.
This is due in large part to the fact that as a big bunch of snow
is falling, there are extremely gusty, high velocity winds.
The reason the Open Trail List is down to 95(*) this morning
is that the “Flying Mile” Quad Lift and trail sector is off-line
due to unsafe wind related operating conditions.
Furthermore, the rotation of the wind in relation to the centre
of the storm is going to mean about a 270 degree change
in wind direction over the course of the storm which is estimated
to last for about 36 hours in total.
Estimates on the total amount of snow we might get range from
15 to 30cm’s depending on the source of the forecast, however...
What we know for sure is that there will be wind generated
drifting features over Mountain contours that will far exceed
whatever the official totals are. We also know for sure, that
with these wind velocities and direction changes, there are
going to areas of less than the official totals, due to facing
exposures on wide open spaces that make it difficult to retain
blowing snow. To a certain extent, topographical crests and
steeper directly wind exposed zones may see some wind-blasted
icy bits.
On an individual basis, there’s no doubt today will be very
“Interesting”, but the net effects are somewhat unpredictable
due to the indefinite combinations of wind, direction, speed,
and undetermined snowfall density throughout the duration
of the storm. When you look at the lower “Wind Direction”
component in the annotated Summit Forecast Graphic(**) below,
you can clearly see there are highly variable forces anticipated.

in the adjacent regions to the West as the storm centre moves towards
Tremblant, so you can expect to see some powerful dimensions to
the afternoon breezes here. At these temps, at least the wind chill
should not be as bad as past, more winter-like numbers, but strong
is still strong no mater what, so you’ll need to pay close attention to
fastening and closures to keep drafts out and comfort in.

In the sense that we have seen so little above Zero C heat over the
past 3 months, we also think this immediate time period will be the
“Peak” of winter conditions that have meant almost 3 months of largely
ice free, all snow surfaces that have been exceptionally fine quality.
Looking at the 14 day long range in the regular forecast, we can see
that is most likely to change later on this week. “Spring”???
If it happens the way the forecast is predicting, this Friday coming
will see +10 C which will be the highest temp on the Mountain
since Opening on November 22, 2018. That is also the moment
we give thanks for every single overnight low at -20’s, because
it would take weeks of “+” temps to even begin to touch the retained
frost in the mass of the Mountain, so a couple of days will have almost
no lasting significant effect.

What’s great for Skiing is frequently not great for photography, but...
Big Snow means Big Fun, at least for Experts, however, for Beginners
and Intermediates it can mean big challenge. Fortunately, if you are
a Beginner or Intermediate, you have the very great benefit of the 2
principle sides of Tremblant each having a world class Green zone
for all-weather access. On Versant Sud, South Side, it’s Nansen,
on Versant Nord, North Side, it's P’tit Bonheur. If they are not both
excellent, then one or the other will be wind sheltered.
