The World Comes To Tremblant!

January 25, 2020, F.I.S.
World Cup Mogul Competition
At Tremblant Today.

While it is easy to see that all the World Cup Mogul events are
similar in appearance when viewed on a Big Screen TV, the way
most people see them as Network Broadcasts, we think it’s both
interesting and important to include the F.I.S. Course Design
Specifications which you can see below on the right side of this
document. It is the application of these design requirements that
create dimensional consistency between all event and practice
venues. That means competitors can rely on uniform physical layouts
for safety and personal skills development that are the same basis
for everyone, a “Level Playing Field”, so-to-speak.

Below is an overview(1.24.20) of the Tremblant Versant Sud, South Side Resort
and Mountain, with a Zoom-in highlight of the Course location. For those not
familiar with, or new to Tremblant, this sector of the Mountain is called
“Flying Mile” and it was the very first Lift Serviced descent at Tremblant,
Opened in 1939. The High Speed Detachable Quad Chairlift that services
this zone is also called “Flying Mile” and it is a smaller peak on the lower
portion of the main Resort side of the Mountain. In 1939, the total vertical
of the Mountain was not serviceable by a single lift line, so getting to the
Summit was a two-step operation and from the top of the Mid-Mountain
Flying Mile peak, you skied down to the base of the second stage that
delivered you to the top. You can still see that second stage in service today
as the “TGV” Quad Chairlift rising to the Summit, appearing here, to the right
of the event course, ascending diagonally, right, to the Summit Grand Manitou
Lodge structure. To the right of the TGV is the modern single rise line of the
8 passenger enclosed Gondola that goes directly from the Resort Base to the
Summit.

Below:
Yesterday’s Course Inspection:

In order to familiarize themselves with the surface conditions,
Competitors descend en mass, over the entire length of the
run they will be flying over today.

Considering the layout specifications that make all the World Cup
events identical in dimension, the most significant variable is the
snow surface itself that will be unique in every venue. This is the
opportunity individual competitors have to assess the characteristics
of the snow that could affect the way they ski it due to inherent
qualities of grip, friction, firmness, looseness, or any other examples
of differences weather factors could or do make to surfaces.

Windy Weather Alert. Today’s wind direction is
indicated at Easterly, so rising up the Mountain
over P’tit Bonheur/Versant Nord, the North Side.
Tremblant.ca has noted that Lift Op’s may be affected
but we think that would only be if there are excessively
gusty periods.

---------------- 11:57 A.M. Insert Update: --------------------

Please Note: Our original highlight was for the annotated Temperature,
however the Summit Lift Status Board shows a 15 minute wait
at the Gondola, and at that exact moment the actual line is
2, to 3 minutes for groups, and walk-on for singles as you can see
in the enclosed Resort Base excerpt. We are not sure why there
would be such a large difference, but it would be our observational
opinion that the lift lines at Tremblant are typically on the shortest
side of indicated ranges.

---------------- 12:19 P.M. Insert Update: ------------------

Please Note: we have included the Nord/North Base composite panoramic
because a review of the above Summit Lift Status Board shows a 5 to15 minute
wait at the Nord/North Base, however at that time, and up to 20 minutes later
when we checked it again, the physically visible lines at the North were less
than 3 minutes for the group lines, and walk-on for the singles line at Expo.
It would be our observational opinion that the lift lines at Tremblant are typically
on the shortest side of indicated ranges.

Conditions Notes:

With temps this close to Zero at Mountain Elevations,
everything should be semi-soft, however what we’re
hoping for is that the pre-existing deep frost is going
to hold the firmness and speed in todays surfaces.

To a certain extent traffic will be a factor, at least in
mogul formations, however it is too early to predict
what crowds may be associated with either the weekend
or the World Cup Mogul event.

Mountain Utility Note:

Below: This pic is now 72 hours old but the scene today should
be almost identical and the point is exactly identical, the P2
based “Porte du Soleil” Triple-Chair lift is working just great
for all its benefits to both the Ski-in-ski-out Condo’s, as well
as short-cuts to the Versant Sud/South Base and the Versant
Soleil Quad base. The POV below is at about the 4/5 point in
the total rise, looking back over your right shoulder, north,
over the Resort Village and up the length of Lac Tremblant.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
