T360 Late Evening Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct @ 10:21 P.M.

Wow, a very interesting Tremblant day with a wide range
of conditions that varied from very fine to some truly
superb, exceptional excellence.

To begin with the weather evolved from overcast snowy to
brilliantly sunny by last run.

For us, it was never a question of “If” there were going to be great conditions,
it was only a matter of “Where”, and with some rapid 4-corner exploration,
it soon became clear that there were select portions of excellence in multiple
sectors and trail categories. The way the wind was swirling around the Mountain
was quite unique. At various times, there was up-hill facing wind force on
every North/East/South/West compass point sector of Tremblant and as it rose
up over contours, it drifted into many areas with hugely beneficial results.

Below:
One of the best examples, in our opinion, the “Gem du Jour”, was Versant
Nord/North Side trail #57, "Devils River”.

This trail shone out as near flawless for the entire top-to-bottom,
and wall-to-wall descent line. It was very close to perfect with not
so much as a single snowflake out of place. The way the wind shaped
the air-flow over this trail blessed it with a surprisingly uniform depth
for a top layer that carved like butter and held an edge like velcro.
It was superb Front-side carving with the very highest levels of completely
reliable edge set at virtually any speed your quad muscles could support.

Below:
Here is an example of the typical groomed surface performance,
in this case on Versant Sud/South Side McCulloch, its Summit pitch,
as viewed from the TGV Quad, rising. It is super-clear to see the
potential grip here for the Skill Levels this trail is “Expert” rated for.
You could translate this same level of grip to Nansen, of Duncan Haut,
upper, or Banzai, or Fuddle-Duddle Bas , Lower, and on, and on, and on,
and on... for dozens of other examples.

For Tomorrow:

The cool overnight tonight could get down to about -20C at the Summit.
That, plus another grooming cycle, should do nothing other than take “Great”
and elevate it to “Greater”. Tomorrow is definitely going to be authentic winter.
It could well be one of the very last, truly authentic winter days left in this
season.

What that means is, if you absolutely love the crisp, cool beauty of a
genuine winter day, you really want to be here if you can.

What we say...

The very best performance snow is like Champagne,
"Serve Well Chilled."

It’s All Winter, All Day...

but, only by a handful of degrees, so that means at just
under Zero C, it’s a mild winter day that while quite grey
in appearance, should be brilliant performance!

Generally speaking, when the temp’s are this close to Zero C/32F,
we are quite happy to see overcast because it acts as an umbrella
to prevent Solar energy from cooking the snow surfaces that are
sensitive to any thermal force. Basically, it removes a tipping point
and we think the result is going to be great technical Skiing that
carries primary winter surface characteristics forward for another day.

The level of lateral grip that was very similar over all groomed
terrain is clearly evident in the angle of inclination you can see
with the skier on frame-left, above. What you also see here is
the relatively shallow nature of the loose top layers being
displaced by the arched ski. A couple of days ago these layers
were softer and deeper, so that’s why we’re calling this a more
technical level of skiing now, it just requires a bit more edging
sensitivity if you want to hang onto that traction.

Shifting Gears...

We were very grateful to receive this T360 Fan Submitted
Summit POV from yesterday and it is already looking very similar
out there today.

Conditions Notes:

The overall theme for the groomed trail inventory is very fine
technical skiing within each of the primary Skill categories
of Green, Blue and Black. The reason we say technical is that
the base is about 95% very dense snow, so with modest new
snowfall over the top, if you are an aggressive edge-setter, you
won’t have full lateral grip without really fresh and sharp edges.

We have had specific “Slick” and “Icy” feedback, however with
edges on our old Atomic D2 SL 160’s that are now well over 2 weeks
of days used, we are still finding excellent grip virtually everywhere,
so to us, what that really means that if others are finding it slick or
icy anywhere, they must have really dull edges. As a matter of fact
we would have called yesterday one of the top 10 Front-Side Carving
days this season, so as far as we are concerned, we think edge tuning
is the critical difference in both perception and actual mechanical function.

The Mogul zones still have soft tops however there are some random
appearing hazards in the valleys. At this stage they are very small in
number and area, so to be on the safe side, we say explore carefully
on first descents if you want to avoid potential contacts.

As far as the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste are concerned, what we find
remarkable is the continued dryness in the most recent big snowfall, now
about a week in the past. What you see in the Proof Of Snow du Jour below
is still light, dry, fluffy, powder snow.

There are still to this day, and to this minute, untracked fresh powder
descent lines in the Open Sous Bois zones. We think that’s amazing
when you consider it’s been a busier than normal Quebec School
Spring Break week.

We keep on putting in these “Proof Of Snow” pic’s from Open Sous Bois
zones and this is yesterday, 3.5.20, at around 2:30 P.M. It is absolute proof
it has not been used in the last week, and we’d be willing to bet $20.
that this won’t get used today either.

page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
