T360 Opening Day, Season 2020/21,
Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct @ 10:11 P.M.

Tremblant Delivers.

For only the fifth time in the history of the Resort,
you could ski Summit-to-base on both Sud/South and
Nord/North sides of Tremblant on Opening Day.

This is notwithstanding a recent heatwave that caused a
one week opening delay, plus, an ongoing Global pandemic.
It’s a great result, and considering the total mountain vertical
access, even a slightly miraculous recovery for a lot of hard
work over a short time span.

For sure, it was quite “Spring-Like” as you can probably tell
from the view above, but in our experience, that did not inhibit
speed at all. Additionally, despite a damp forecast, we were dry
right up to last run. There was sort of an atmospheric micro-drizzle
in that foggy zone you can see above, but other than a bit of easily
swiped goggle debris, it just never got through any garment layers.

You can see below the very typical foggy, but dry Summit.
We make the dry reference expressly because it’s not really
fog, so much as it is very low cloud, and in our observations,
clouds that descend almost always seem to generate less
condensate than fog that forms at surface levels.

PLEASE NOTE: Access to the Summit Grand Manitou is by
specific direction only. To enter, you must take the left side
deck stairs set down to the lower entrance and you must then
proceed past the lower level washrooms to the lower, inside
stairs going up, then past the cafeteria, to exit out the front
doors. See Tremblant’s Official Covid Instructions for authorized
lodge uses.

The entrances are shown below so you know what to look for
when you get here.

Out on the trails, the skiing was quite fine considering the
temps and the amount of softness. The best quality was the
carving grip. There were less icy bits than we though there
might be, and almost zero hazards which is outstanding for
a first day. If the warm keeps up there may be some thin
zones, but so far, the wall-to-wall coverage is holding up
very well.

We gave Nansen Haut, Upper the Trail du Jour award, it was
fast and smooth and great carving fun, right up to last run.

There were some traffic wear factors by later day, a bit
of wash-boarding and shallow moguls on P’tit Bonheur,
but it will respond very well to overnight grooming. It
should be superb for Saturday morning.

It was a very challenging day for photography. Our save-rate was only
about 35%. Every pic in here today has needed substantial alteration and
in that process we have prioritized snow surface detail for the sake of the sport.
Tomorrow may be similar... great for skiing, a bit thick for pic’s, and
fabulous for fun!

Its supposed to be about +2C tomorrow with a snowy/drizzle mix possible
at Resort Base levels, but there is some chance it could all come as snow
from even cooler upper atmospheric air masses over the Mountains peak.

Due to currently applicable Covid-19 Pandemic Protocols
you need to go to Tremblant.ca to see about attending.

11(*) Open Trails on Versant Sud, South Side, and Versant Nord,
North Side @ #Tremblant.

It’s Good To Be Back!

Of course, we’re all going to have to do our part in order
to comply with Public Health measures, but what ever
effort that entails will be quickly forgotten once you're out
on the trails. We think its going to be a very memorable
day of enthusiastic skiing and boarding if for no other reason
than the pent-up energy from the unseasonably early end last
spring at March 15, let alone the total Mountain vertical on both
Sud/South and Nord/North sides that makes this season only
number 5 since 1939 to have this rare two-sided, summit-to-base
access privilege.

Please Note: Summit-To-Base on BOTH Open Sectors due to
Covid-19 adequate Social Distancing requirements.

Please Note: It is vitally important to conform to all instructions
by designated Mountain Operations staff during this extraordinary
Covid-19, Pre-Vaccine time period when Ski Season is dependant on
modified behaviour to maintain safety and minimized transmission and
infection rates.

Weather Notes:

If you are driving from any distance(Ottawa?), leave early
because of variable, up to Pea-Soup Foggy Roads.

Conditions Notes:

Rather “Spring-Like” mild air temps with so-far, calm winds.
With the very close proximity to Zero C, regardless of all other
factors, it’s a very easy range to work with in terms of dress
but there is some probability that a good poncho may be useful
during the course of the day. There are also chances that if the active
weather is passing in bands, they may skirt around the Mountain
and we could be totally dry all day. It is just one of those very common
mild fall days where almost anything can happen, so you need to
be ready for anything.

Due to the recent warm and damp which followed a significant
cold-snap, there is a possibility of mixed soft and firm trail
surface variation. Icy bits are also possible, so it’s going to be
wise to go slow to begin with in order to confirm safe speeds
over the various descents.

The most significant point about today is that...

It’s absolutely fantastic to have 11 open trails over Summit-To-Base
Sud/South and Nord/North on opening day. Crews have been
mandated to create a certain amount of initial acreage in order
to have the distance separations necessary for Covid-19, so
be that as it may, those fortunate enough to be here today are
going to have one of the largest openings in history to exercise
their options on!

As is typical of any seasons first day, there is no “Yesterday” experience
to base a comparison or forecast , so obviously, the main value in
todays posting is going to come with Apres Ski. We hope to have that
up by mid-evening.

It’s going to be important to pace yourself today. Not only did we
lose near 5 weeks last spring, but with the pandemic, many public
access fitness venues were closed this summer, not to mention some
“Stay at home" orders, so keeping fit was definitely a challenge for
many. Don’t burn up your quads too quickly, keeping a reserve is the
intelligent way to go.

None of this would be possible without both the immense
efforts of the Tremblant Mountain Op’s group, and the large
investment in current Zero degree snowmaking technology
that Tremblant has made.

The combination has made possible Opening days of vast coverage
that were unheard of in decades past. We salute the entire team for
their plans and work that are all very much appreciated.
