Considering all the up’s/down’s in the recent weather/temp profiles,
we are very fortunate to have as much open as there currently is.
On top of that, anyone here yesterday could see there was a tremendous
snowmaking effort underway that spans the whole scope of the Sud/South
and Nord/North open sectors of the Mountain and we expect there may
be additional open trails added to the list at almost any moment now.

In the mean-time, you have all of the existing open terrain and
within that array, there are many very fine, high quality trails like
this Nansen sample below. We’ve given Nansen Haut, Upper, our
unofficial Trail du Jour award almost every single day since 11.27
because it has been near flawless the entire time.

Weather Notes:

Today was/is, supposed to be, theoretically, a copy of yesterday
that had the first genuine sunny periods we’ve seen for the entire
time the season has been open. So far, it’s a very dull grey today
and there is every appearance of it continuing at “dull grey” due to
what seems to be a very heavy overcast. It is possible it may clear
off, but the cloud is so thick and dark looking, that seems unlikely,
at least on the basis of “soon”.

At least the temps are in a very good place for snowmaking for the
next 36 hours or so, but the 14 day long range forecast below suggests
there may be another little warm spell, at least at Sud/South Resort
Base levels. Based on the snowfall icons at the same time, that tells
us that the forecasters are expecting upper atmospheric winds to be
the cooler temps necessary for snow.

From a Mountain Utility standpoint, at least it’s a mild forecast and when
Covid-19 safety/health measures have everyone who’s driving to get here
changing into ski boots outside at their vehicle, we don’t have to worry
about cold feet so much.

Conditions Notes:

Generally, and especially for this still very early stage in the season,
trail conditions are very good to excellent. There are some normally
occurring firm and/or icy bits that are the consequence of Mother
Natures thermal oscillations above and below the Zero C freezing
mark. But... it is still technically “Fall” for another 2 weeks, so all of
this is totally within average weather characteristics for this calendar
time period.

For the same early season reasons, the base is not yet at full depth,
so there are some zones of surface debris hazards that you need to
watch out for to avoid Ski/Board base damage. These areas tend to
be near trail edges or at crests where the base may be thin. The
best thing to do is explore at careful speeds to avoid contacts in
these zones.

As of today, there is still a highly shared trail use by all skill levels.
This is unavoidable with limited open terrain, so it is not uncommon
to find Experts using the predominantly Green and Blue rated terrain
as that is all that is open. We urge Experts to use caution, slow speeds,
and allow extra wide passing/safety margins around Beginners while
using Green terrain.

It will not be long before there will be additional open terrain across
all skill levels with the very comprehensive snowmaking program
currently under way. Please review the snowmaking icons in the PDF.
below for a look to the near-future of trail development.

Only Two Samples Of Many Of Our Favourite
Snowmaking Trail Development Zones:

Nansen Bas, Lower:

Re Above:
Over the years we have written extensively about the importance
of Nansen Bas, Lower to the entire benefit of all Sud/South side
terrain because of the fundamental addition of an alternate
pathway to the Resort Base that is a legitimate Beginner trail.
This is a critical point in Sud/South terrain openings and when it
happens, it completely relieves the pre-existing, challenging
complexity of the trails converging at the TGV Quad Base zone.

Before Nansen Bas, Lower opens, all skill levels must converge at
the TGV base in order to descend, and that is not Beginner territory.
The result up to now is that Beginners do not have a choice, and the
traffic congestion of mixed skill levels all trying to descend over the
same real-estate simultaneously can cause hazard.

If you are a “Never Ever” first time Beginner, attending at Tremblant when
the entire length of Nansen Haut/Upper and Nansen Bas/Lower is open,
typically in the first or second week of December, is ideal. At 6 Kilometres
in total length, Nansen offers one of the very finest and safest Beginner
Learning environments in the known Ski World. We are super enthusiastic
Nansen Fans and we can’t wait to see it all open!

Duncan Haut/Upper, and Duncan Bas/Lower,
Under Simultaneous Construction:

Versant Nord/North side Duncan is an Expert favourite for very good reason.
It has an exceptionally engaging topography that offers a variety of steep pitches
along its path, so there are natural points over its length where speed is
easily regulated either before or after navigating with gravity on the more
radical inclines. At somewhere around 5 Kilometres it is like many of the
Versant Nord/North Expert trails in that it is sort of a natural roller-coaster,
but it is the longest continuous single trail, so as a workout, lapping Duncan
from top-to-bottom will tap into your reserves and literally build muscle and
endurance for athletic Experts.

The recent seasons openings of Duncan have also seen remarkably positive
levels of the very highest trail surface qualities that would be consistent
with some of the best mid-winter days. We have been amazed by recent
seasons openings of Duncan for that very reason and we hope to see the
tradition continued.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
