T360 Prime-Time Mid-Evening Apres Ski Edit, Under Construction @ 8:03 P.M.
Here Is The Basic Insight You Need To Understand Tremblant Now:
Spectacular Natural Beauty.
After 10 days of almost solid Grey... Slivers Of Blue Sky!
12.6.20.Nord.North.Ptit.Bonheur.Weather.Conditions.Observations.d.jpg
We were wrong on our conditions assessment this morning as we
underestimated the effect of the temperature drop across to deeper
sub-zero’s, so there was more firmness and some of the former
soft bits are now froze beyond what we though might occur with
more snow and grooming. Consequently it was still technical skiing
that requires gently applied turning force if you want to maintain
lateral grip. The grip was almost directly proportional to speed and
pitch angle so moderately low velocity got you the safest carving
energy, and keeping that speed controlled was the way to hold edge
on those steeper sections. Correspondingly, the inherent speed was
up a tick with the firmness, so it’s faster, and definitely no trouble
shooting across plateaus or run-outs.
12.6.20.Nord.North.Ptit.Bonheur.Stand.On.em.Sideways.Carving.Performance.c.jpg
It’s still loads of fun, you just need those technical edging skills
combined with sensitive speed control to get and keep optimized
grip in some zones.
It was a busy day for weekend traffic, so you had to be respectful
of mixed Skill Levels if/when you encountered them as they spread
out over all the open terrain.
That situation should be taken care of soon. There is a huge acreage
with active snowmaking coverage. New Open Terrain could occur at
almost any moment now, and will probably expand at a good clip for
several weeks, weather permitting. Of course the lighter weekday
traffic will mean less wear stress too, so for those here for the next
5 days, there may be some new positive performance levels.
There were moments of solitude today as well, not all that many,
but when they happen, Mother Nature touches you with the feeling
of natural winter tranquility.
12.6.20.Sud.South.Nansen.Haut.Upper.Weather.Conditions.Observations.b.jpg
According to the forecast for tomorrow, it should be very similar to
today @ -4C, with the positive exception of less wind, and from the Nor-West,
coming up Nansen. We’re hoping another night of grooming should get
some of those icy bits rendered out, but with less work-week traffic, you’ll
have a lot more space to pick out the best lines. It is possible there may be
new opening terrain??? Maybe???

14(*) Open Trails on Summit-To-Base Sud/South and Nord/North Sectors at #Tremblant.
No Matter The Weather Drama,
As Long As It’s On The Right Side Of Winter.
Here is a 3 step Mt.Tremblant zoom-in “Weather Drama” sequence
from an Old Village of Mt. Tremblant hillside POV, 12.5.20 @ 3:15 P.M.
The time span of the 3 shots below is approx. 90 seconds and the
3 pic.s can not even come close to conveying just how “angry” or
“boiling" this dynamic sky scene looked as it was evolving by the
moment.
By the hand of Mother Nature, an appropriate and literal use of the word “Awesome”.
Wide angle overview:
Zoom-in #1:
Zoom-in #2:
When you are standing up there at the Summit with your Skis on,
it all looks as if you're facing a binary view of white and grey. While
moving, there is a rather spooky, etherial, ghost-like progression of
shapes as your skis glide over the immaculate trail base with an almost
effortless gravity assist.
Very occasionally, the sunlight splashes brightness through portholes
in the cloud, but they move so fast you can’t keep up with them and
almost as soon as the brightness comes, it’s gone in a giant swirl of grey.
The Skiing is early-season fantastic, and the Weather is literally awesome.
Weather Notes:
Considering the volatility in the actual minute-by-minute
weather dynamic over the entire span of this Seasons Opening,
it is difficult to know how close the hourly forecast could be.
Once again, sunny breaks are possible, but the duration or
intervals are not accurately predictable. At least the temps
are nicely below Zero C, so no question about great snow conditions.
Conditions Notes:
The incremental addition of new snowfall over several recent days,
plus the consistent 24 hour sub-zero C over Mountain Elevations,
plus additional grooming cycles, should produce a peak in trail
surface quality today.
12.4.20.Nord.North.Ptit.Bonheur.Performance.Carving.Sample.d.jpg
This sample above is a case-in-point example of multi-skill level
use and suitability at Tremblant right now. Trail # 72, P’tit Bonheur
is always a centre-stage attraction at Tremblant each and every
seasons opening. We are lucky to have it and our appreciation
is sincere.
Generally, “Getting Better Every Day” is a phrase that should be
applicable for the foreseeable future due to fewer and fewer thermal
influences as we get closer to the end of Fall.
For those Seasons Pass holders, or those who can plan ahead
with the provisions made for advance on-line ticket purchases,
this next 2 weeks before the Christmas Holiday period should
see continued development of the very well established base of
today. Additionally, with more natural snow forecast, plus ongoing
snowmaking indicated, we expect to see a significant expansion of
open terrain across all skill levels.
Speaking of Snowmaking... we are very glad to see the snowmaking
icons have been activated on the Downloadable Trail Status PDF.
At this stage of seasonal development you can look to these listed
trails as some of the most likely near-term additions. Timing is not
absolute for any new trail openings yet, other than perhaps if we were
lucky enough to get a huge blizzard, in which case you might be safe
to say “Sooner”.
It is possible we may see an additional opening trail or two even today(?),
maybe(?). For example, there has been a ton of work done on Versant Nord/North
trail # 71, Beauchemin Haut, Upper, within recent days, so combined with
the day-before-yesterday opening of the Summit entrance of P’tit Bonheur
across the top of Beauchemin Haut, Upper(#), we think there’s good and logical
reason that may be a possibility. We could be wrong, but if so, “Soon” will
still be likely.
(#) The Summit entrance of P’tit Bonheur runs parallel, below and to the
right side of La Crete, across the top of Beauchemin Haut, Upper, as well
as past the upper entrance of trail # 75, Andy-Moe, and it extends all
the way across to the top entrance of the Nansen sector. This is a very
important Mountain Utility because as an alternate pathway to open Versant
Nord/North trails, it relieves a huge amount of accumulated traffic stress
from La Crete, thereby reducing if not eliminating, the tendency for La Crete
to develop either washboard or mogul formations. All Skill Levels benefit from
this simple addition and we want to point out that this is a great example of
the kind of very basic, helpful, additions you will find Mountain Op’s provide
on an ASAP basis here at Tremblant.
