A Beautiful Day To Learn.

For everyone...(#)

And if you found a quiet trail-side spot for a break, there was real solar
energy in the sun. Within a minute, you could feel the warm edge of the rays
if you just gave them that little chance.

We don’t know how any text could summarize what you see above. An absolutely
magical moment in the day of everyone present at this magnificent place and time.

The young person pictured is 4 years of age and he’s just at that special point of
make those very first connected turns under the joyful encouragement of Dad.

If you could be here we think you’d find it just as beautiful. For sure, it’s still
technical skiing in the sense that the softness that was prevalent for the first
2.5 weeks is long gone under the cool blanket of a dip in the Polar Vortex
we've had for the past 3 days. So, you need to be careful, but these gorgeously
smooth slopes like Nansen pictured above, are benchmarks of versatile ease.

Edge-sets respond to gradual, smooth applications of force. There are icy bits,
however any perceptions of icy are directly proportional to edge tuning sharpness
combined with pitch angle. If you want high performance, it’s there, but freshly
tuned edges are essential. A substantial amount of what average folks are going to
think of as icy, are actually very highly traffic polished, very dense snow zones.

All you had to do was ride up the Duncan Quad and you could see many people slip-sliding
out of their skill level, then a Racer with fresh Titanium Alloy edges(fresh enough to shave
a peach), comes cleanly carving over the very same real-estate in total and absolute control.
You knew in a heartbeat that only the very best tools get the job done on the steepest
pitches. Our friend pictured below just had Tremblant’s Ski Shop do a tune on his new
Elan’s after their first 3 weeks of skiing and we can tell you for a fact, it makes
all the difference in the world.

(#) If you got onto Black Diamond slopes beyond the ability for functional
edge hold, you had to very quickly adapt technique, throw out the anchor
and get yer grip back. You had to figure out, i.e. “learn” what to do, on the
fly in order to prevent run-away scenario’s. To be on Black rated trails, at
this stage you need a range of actual Black skills, combined with effective tools.
Otherwise, go Blue, go Green.

Then, there’s the promise of “Tomorrow”...

We put “Tomorrow” in quotation marks because we’re not sure if it's literal,
or figurative, but we have very good reason to believe the Soleil Sector opening
might actually be “Tomorrow”.

Another Kkkool genuine winter day with really Cool skiing!

For Friday:

It’s supposed get down to -22C tonight, but it’s one of those quiet, calm, nearly
crystal clear, long winter nights that we think could blow the forecast away. It
would not surprise us to see -26C or lower. During Open Hours, forecast under
sunny sky to reach up to -6C which would be wonderful, especially if the very
low wind speed component holds true. Hope to see you here in the morning when
we have a better idea. What we know for sure is the skiing will be more of wonderful.

P.S. Here’s a glimpse of the weather system we’ve been dealing
with for the last 3 days.

21(*) Open Trails on Sud/South and Nord/North Sectors at #Tremblant.

From yesterday at noon hour...

This is important as it marks the first time temps
have dropped sufficiently to freeze Lac T.
We try to mark this occurance on a seasonal basis
as a statistical data point.

What does it mean?

Winter.

Below:
It certainly felt all winter, all day. No doubt about an authentic winter day
in a string of winter days. The temp display was flashing here at -16C and
there was a brisk little breeze to remind you what wind chill is all about.
The advantage is in the base refinements from grooming at these temp’s,
as well as fantastic conditions for maximizing snowmaking efficiency.

Weather Notes:

Sunny and warmer...

For today specifically, what we like best in this forecast
is the relatively low wind speed value. The effects of
any temps that can be perceived as desirable are
generally enhanced in utility by low wind speed.

As far as the outlook...

It appears as though the Polar Vortex intrusion over
Eastern North America is moving off, back to Siberia.
This retraction is particularly evident in the 14 day long
range forecast where we see a distinct return to warmer
than average temps.

It should be noted that the temps indicated below are
all at Sud/South Resort Base levels, and that temps at
Mountain Elevations are typically -4C cooler, so everything
you see below should have the Trail Network nicely within
permanent sub-zero C’s, yet very easy to dress and stay
outdoors for.

Conditions Notes:

This is day 3 of a sequential series of cold days that typically
result in a very stable trail base with an upward escalating scale
of refinement in the grooming production quality. Basically,
with a sustained 24hr., round the clock, sub-zero C ambient
temp., there are no warm thermal factors, so Mountain Crews
can focus completely on expanding the range of refinements
rather than having to focus on mitigating icy bits.

The fact that it is a low traffic, mid-week, work day, should
further compliment all day trail surface durable quality as
there is just not that much traffic stress per unit of square
surface area. This is a reason we highlight these couple of
weeks prior to the Christmas/New Years Holiday period as
excellent early season “Value Weeks”. If you want to get a
personal head-start on fitness for the upcoming core of
the winter ski season, training/lapping on these uncrowded,
great, early conditions will figuratively and literally kick your
butt into shape.

Snowmaking/New Terrain Development News.

There are many signs of near-term open terrain expansion.

Noteworthy examples are the Snowmaking Icons shown below
for the Soleil Sector as well as within the Versant Nord/North
Lowell Thomas Sector, Pic. sampled below.

This above is a “Last Run” snap shot, so it is very much shadow’d
by the setting sun, but it’s still not hard to see the potential here.
In this case Rigodon has actually been retaining a very solid natural
snow base since the end of November, so when this finally opens
“soon”, we think the quality should be very high.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
