It might be foggy, and it might be mild, but the snow in the trees tells you
everything you need to know about the sub-zero C temp stability that
keeps it all “Winter” in look and function.

What’s Happening With All The Mild Weather?

Repeat from yesterday’s “Warm and Easy” theme, and directly applicable to
the extension within this topic.

You do not need to be a Rocket Scientist to see how the sustained
pattern shown above has delivered a long trend of mild days.

While this long running string of consecutive quite mild winter days
have been very easy to dress for, it is really unusual to not experience
some considerably cooler temp periods by now. For sure we did have
a few cold nights in mid-December, but this warm trend has had
an uncharacteristic durability. Fortunately, and again most unusually
in our opinion, there have been almost no thermal peaks into the “Plus”
C range, so very remarkably, almost no oscillating across the freezing
mark that could generate icy bits. It is a rare combination of circumstances,
but so-far, all of those circumstances have kept a very clean Sub-Zero C
profile, even if it is a close one.

Theoretically, we should have already seen a more definitive jet stream flow
bringing a sweeping cool influence in from the West. The Weather Network,
Canada’s National Cable TV forecasting entity issued their revised winter
update recently and looking back at that now it seems as though the pattern
expected has at the very least, stalled in position over northern Europe.

We first ran this on December 29, 2020.

Will we see a deviation back to typical Tremblant winter normals? If so, when?

Even if we do, looking at this forecast model below, it so-far looks like it would
be more likely the consequence of a relatively minor influence of westerly moving
air bubble off of Alaska and the West Coast rather than the descending dominance
of the Polar Vortex? The warm zone over Canada’s far north just seems to be very
well entrenched.

Weather Notes:

Locally:
Another fantastic day of mild winter with snowfall and very low to no wind.

Conditions Notes:

In the Groomed category, the magic word for today is:

“Optimized”.

Not only have recent days been consistently sub-zero C, but
yesterday was a relatively light traffic day(referring to trail
traffic density as a separate and distinct metric compared
to any momentary lift line metrics), so last night’s grooming
shift has incrementally improved what was already very well
stabilized with very little stress to begin with.

Today the likelihood is that there will be less traffic all the way
around, so whatever wear factors there are should have minimal
effect.

In the Sous Bois, Bush, Hors Piste, Un-Groomed we continue to
recommend careful low speed explorations because we are not
yet at mid-winter depth accumulations. Natural hazards may
be encountered between bumps and contours and the only way
you can avoid them is if you are going slow enough to make
instantaneous directional changes for last second apparent
visibility.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
