Are We Racing Towards The “Peak” Of Winter Conditions?

If You Look At The Weather Forecast And The Level Of Groomed
Trail Development, You Might Say “Yes”.

Below:
Here’s The “Peak” Of Great Trail Development News...

Though It Be Small,

Its Symbolic Significance,
Its Spectacular Natural Beauty,
Its Superlative Technical Merit,

Make It A HUGE Sign Of Tremblant’s Seasonally Developed Maturity.

Only Mother Nature can make a ski/board descent line of Precambrian
Granite ebb and flow like a smooth river. That is what the Tremblant
Mountain Op’s Group have given you with Versant Nord, North Side
Trail # 66, "Le Tunnel" today.

(use the “Previous Topic” buttons to go back to
last night’s Apres Ski for more on this.)

Please forgive our enthusiasm...

However this one singular seasonal day,
the first grooming of Trail # 66, Versant
Nord/North Side Le Tunnel, automatically
rendered yesterday as one of the top 5 days
of the whole season(#). Today should be exactly
the same.

As a Time-Stamped marker of the actual day,
we wrote an Apres Ski edition in yesterdays
posting to record the event as the Official PDF
does not show this trail with a groomed icon,
so in that sense, it flies under the radar. This is
understandable though, because most folks go
there now to ski/board the open Sous Bois on
either side of the central trail descent. Of course,
the Hors Piste will never-ever be groomed, so from
that perspective, it makes some sense to leave the
main icon indicator as a Sous Bois/Glade sign, however,
Le Tunnel could legitimately be considered a “Zone”,
and/or, with/as, 2 distinct trail categories.

Whatever the case may be, we are quite content to
keep this a secret for as long as possible so that we
can very selfishly go there for multiple runs to savour
its delectable, beautiful sweetness before it changes
in any traffic-induced way. In that sense, we’re glad
we don’t have that many readers here as what this
fantastic news means for us will not actually get very
far into the mainstream and only the very small group
of serious Tremblant Front-Side SL style Carvers
and Old School Parallel Turn Rippers will jealously
want to protect it from excessive wear.

The point of all of this is that as a symbol of arguably
one of the highest levels of Tremblant groomed trail
refinements, the fact that this trail could be groomed
at all, speaks huge volumes about the fantastic quality
of the whole Mountain which is in fully optimized,
“Average Is Excellent” condition. Period.

(#) History in our terms may even render this as
the pinnacle of the seasons “Winter” groomed trail
development quality because of the upcoming
variability in weather factors that could introduce
significant elements of “Spring” into the conditions
mix. This is not to say that there won’t be more
“Best Of” conditions, there absolutely will be, but
once the influences of “Spring” arrive, they’re not
better or worse, just different.

Weather Notes:

The Weather reasons that today and tomorrow may be the “Peak”
of winter conditions are:

Like it or not... looking at the 14 day outlook, it seems as
though Mother Nature is prepared to deliver a warm burp
into the regional weather mix that will be a legitimate sign
of Spring. It’s March, anything can happen and we’re both
thrilled and thankful we’ve had so much uninterrupted winter
up to this point. It has to happen sometime, and, at least it’s
brief, at cooler Mountain Elevations, only a couple of days, so-far...

In the meantime, enjoy today and tomorrow as what may
be the last couple of days of pure winter conditions on the
way forward.

This is the final day we will run these graphics in this form.
As the actual weather develops we will attempt to update
with current info. to track the evolving trends.

Conditions Notes:

The references we make to Versant Nord/North Side Trails
#’s 64, 65, and 66, could also fall into the category of utility
maintenance in the sense that if they were not periodically
groomed they would become so mogul’d, with so many
irregular substrates and hazards, that they would only be
useable by a tiny fraction of the most hardy bushwhackers
who don’t care about their knees or their ski bases.

Grooming them establishes both a level platform for future
use and weather as well as the joyful descents over their
naturally rhythmic topographical contours that can now be
enjoyed by an exponentially larger group of Tremblant Guests
with a far wider range of Skill Levels. We would not hesitate to
supervise a confident Intermediate with good “Hockey Stop”
and “Snowplow”, wedge-style turning skills on these trails
when freshly groomed and level.

In that regard, and as an extension of that concept, we would
like to point out another very basic, but exceedingly important
utility upgrade Mountain Op’s has made in this sector.

The runout to Lowell Thomas Bas/Lower has been groomed
flat and level.

This runout is often left in a natural mogul condition
and that may be because there’s not enough snow
to safely groom it, however all the recent over 40 cm’s
has now made this possible and it is now very easy
as opposed to being very difficult before.

By measure of square surface area, it is tiny, tiny, small,
by measure of sector utility, it is no longer a “Bottleneck”
restriction, so once again, a grooming refinement that is
very useful and a huge asset far beyond its size alone,
for for ease of overall sector use.

We would like to point out that the notes for today are only
examples of many overall Mountain-wide regular upgrades.
For sure, we think they are some of the best examples, but
keeping the Mountain optimized is a far-reaching project
that is not restricted to single sectors. Your mission is to
safely explore for them all!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
