Totally Spring.

Soft, and a wee bit slow, so all you need to do is add some slope
and let gravity do more work.

Regardless of the inherent performance characteristics Mother Nature cooks up,
Tremblant Mountain Crews have set the Groomed trail default to “Smooth”.

You are going to need two things today.

Number 1)

The “Progressive Opening” Trail count first thing is roughly 47 out of 78.
That’s more than half the trails we could ultimately see available are technically
waiting for safety certification by the Ski Patrol BEFORE we get to use them.
There is a high degree of probability that the actual number of Open Trails
could change more than once today, so the very best strategy if you are on
the mountain is to consult with the Tremblant Info.Ski Crews, on each and/or
every run, if necessary.

Number 2)

If, if, if... you want optimal speed and control performance you
are going to need properly Tuned Skis/Board INCLUDING:
Part A: Recent, Properly Sharp Edges, AND Part B: Recent Base
Wax or Coating For Appropriate “Warm” Snow Temp Ranges.

IF, If, IF... you come to the Mountain Properly Prepared, i.e.,
you technically and practically speaking have the correct tools
for the job... You Will Have An Excellent Day... Period.

We have a “Hydrophobic Polymer” Ski/Board Base Coating we put on
our Ski Bases that allow the bases to basically repel the moisture
that is generating friction underfoot in this super-soft warm spring
snow. It is specifically for Ski and Snowboard bases, however there are
also conventional Ski base wax products that function in a similar way.

Look at the Pic. above again, but this time, focus on the traverse that is
closest to the Skis set out. What you will see is that the Ski tracks disappear
in the middle of the cross-over between the carved turns. This is because
the Skis are in the air and are not touching the ground.
The point is...
If we can generate enough speed and turning force on “Green”/P’tit Bonheur
to make “Air Turns” on every turn when 97.248% percent are whining
about “Sticky”, then obviously Base Coatings/Wax can make a profound
difference to the performance you will have.

A Minor “Rant”, With No Intended Offence...

It is attention to functional/utility detail that separates serious Expert Skiers/Boarders
from “Consumer” Skiers/Boarders. The continuously amazing part to us though, is how
little it costs, compared to the value of a Lift Ticket, to keep your gear tuned and ready.

The “Cost Per Day” of Edge tuning if you have them professionally done, could be about
half the cost of that dose of Caffeine you grabbed from Starbucks on the way to the Mountain.

The "Cost Per Day” of our Base Coating is about .27 Cents, CDN.

Think about it...

On top of that, if you own your own Edge File and watch any one of the 52,413 DIY
Ski Edge Tuning You Tube Videos, your “Cost Per Day” is near ZERO. We have owned
the very same Machine-Shop Quality Grade File for 30 YEARS, and it still cuts a mean
edge for maintenance sharpening between the periodic Tune-ups we get done at
the Tremblant Ski Shop.

The Base coating we use takes about 4 minutes to apply to BOTH Ski bases about
once every 6 to 8 Days of use. So, for .27 cents, we spent the entire day passing
just about everyone as if they were going backwards...

Our “Pet Peeve” in this case is the irrational sense of entitlement that “Consumer” Skiers
seem to feel about expectations of “Perfect Performance” every time they go out, Without
Any Effort At All On Their Part.

Weather Notes:

There are a lot of Wild Cards in this one. Many, many different
possibilities here, but what we are hoping for is that the cooler
Mountain elevations are enough to generate only snowfall.
We could be totally wrong, but if we are right, the trail quality
could end up being helped out a lot in the return to sub-zero C’s
with a fresh cushion over the re-solidified base.

Conditions Notes:

Complex +/- Zero C potentials, however Mountain Crews always
prioritize Green’s and Blue’s so there should be very good surfaces
in these zones all day. Speed may be highly variable, but smoothness
should be universal.

You need to be ready for a wide variety of what could be rapidly
changing, and/or very different conditions between Sud/South and
Nord/North Sectors that have +/- Solar exposures.

It is likely there will be a lot of Hand-Posted Ski Patrol signage
out today. Take them seriously, every sign is placed for a legitimate
reason and you should comply or respect them all on an
individual basis.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
