Tremblant Mountain Op’s made a great overnight effort
to recover the groomed trail network from yesterdays
whacky down/up/down heat and rain burp.

There were select descent lines within virtually every
trail of very good to very fine quality. Part of that
overnight success was the natural snowfall we woke
up to this morning. To a large extent, that seems to
have been integrated into the final mix in most places,
however there are still some lingering chunky bits and
zones where the machines had to really get into the
firm or icy portions to break them up.

Regardless of the range of rendering effect over the
solidified base, the default everywhere was groomed
flat and smooth, and that made everything better.

We stand by our forecast in the original post below
for today that said if there is “Great” out there today,
there will be “Excellent” tomorrow. It just needs another
grooming cycle to reduce the particle sizes in some zones.

Above:
Versant Nord/North Side Trail # 69, Rigodon, was reserved for race training
and it is one example of a trail that you can clearly see got a wonderful
coating of natural snow after the temps reset to cold. Absolutely fabulous
to see some of the young talent training here at Tremblant, these are the
future stars of the Olympics and World Cup, and we continue to find
inspiration from the pure race technique they so effectively demonstrate.

Further to our predictions for conditions after today, our hypothesis
is that the next 3 days at Tremblant are going to be very special and
there will be an escalating scope of excellence every day. If you can
go, you should not hesitate, debate or procrastinate, toss your gear
in the vehicle and leave as soon as you can.

After a rainy wet day that kept many off the slopes,
it’s time to jump back into action!

Below:
In The Moment.

A large part of the responsibilities of the Info.Ski group
is to be able to relate to the conditions of the moment
to help provide guidance to guests that want to match
skills with the right trail conditions. The best way to do
that is actually get out there across the range of Open
Terrain, evaluate, then discuss amongst the group in
order to be able to share useable intel with the public.
You’ll see team members skiing all open corners of the
Mountain throughout the day for that exact reason.

What you see here below is a group discussion about
the days conditions. That transfer of shared experience
knowledge can now be passed on to you. This is a continually
updating process so it really is quite close to real-time when
you get there to ask about current open terrain conditions.

This will be especially important today. There are so many
variables and a consult with the Info.Ski staff can provide
invaluable insights. We check with them every single day
and you should too.

Weather Notes:

Try this little experiment... use the “Previous Topic” buttons to scroll
back one day at a time and do nothing but look at Saturday December 11
in the 14 day Long Range Forecast graphic. In less than 5 days that forecast
has gone from -1C to +10C. On one hand “Wow”, but in another way, this
is just a normal sample of the volatility that can be experienced in late
Fall. The obvious potential though is that if the forecast models have shown
this much fluctuation in the past 5 days, what might they evolve to in the
next 5 days? This is the trend line we’ll be monitoring for the sake of the
24 Hour Children’s Charity Fundraiser, which at this stage, if the models
hold true, for the first time in a long while, maybe ever, could feel like a
night at the beach compared to the more normal bone chilling early winter
it usually is.

For today specifically, it will not seem like any day at any beach
as the temp’s are in the -13 C ranges at elevations and when
you add in the wind-chill factors for the peak gust velocities,
it will seem more like -23 to -28 C. This is definitely “Bundle Up”
territory today, especially when you consider descent speed against
any headwind. In those cases, wind-chill values could reach into the
-30’s ranges, so please be careful.

Conditions Notes:

Simply put, complex.

After yesterdays whacky warm rainy segment, the temps dropped like a
stone at the same time it was snowing under a howling, swirling wind.

It is as yet undetermined as to how the mix of the flash freeze with
simultaneous snowfall, at the same time as a howling wind, generated
the high degree of potential variability across sectors this morning.

You’ll want to be ready for anything.

One thing very positive though is that dropping temps with no
snowfall would have been much harder to deal with, so where
the swirling wind was kind enough to allow surface accumulations,
there could actually be entire zones of superb excellence. It was
all smooth to begin with, and with virtually no traffic stress on
it at all yesterday, plus last nights grooming shift, there are many
reasons to anticipate select areas of very fine, and at -13C, very
wintery performance across all skill levels.

On that note, you can probably expect the “Green” Beginner trails,
Nansen and P’tit Bonheur, to have had major grooming hours
allocated as our experience shows Tremblant always places a very
significant priority on Beginner/learning terrain first. Those who
need the most support, get the most support.

Generally, after such a dramatic swing in temps, it can take a
couple of days or so to reach all corners of the groomed array
and conditions do respond very well to a second machine pass,
so while we do expect an immediate availability of rendered
terrain this morning, there should be a more universal level of
refinement in tomorrows groomed list.

Conditions Caveat(s):

A) Variable Surface Conditions May Include Firm Or Icy Challenges.
Explore Responsibly At Reduced Speed For All Initial Descents.

B) Cold Temperatures With High Peak Wind Velocities May Generate
Significant Wind-Chill. Bundle Up With Special Attention To Gaps And
Overlaps.

---------------- End of Caveat ---------------

Regional Tremblant Fans With
Discretionary Planning Capability, Take Note:

If there is “Great” out there today, for the next 3 days
or so there will be an escalating scale of “Excellent”.
Play hooky, leave without saying a word, disappear,
vamoose, get outa’ town, and escape to ski Tremblant!

Page under evolutionary construction. If you don’t have good edges,
yer brinin’ a pea shooter to a gun fight. It got up to +6 C with heavy
rain yesterday, now it’s -13C at the Summit. The Laws Of Physics Apply.

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
