Wow... What A Difference A Day Makes...

The weather forces historic changes to the running of
the 24 Hour Children’s Charity Fundraiser as high winds
generate unsafe lift conditions. The event was adapted
for these safety parameters by closing the lifts at 8:00 P.M.,
on Saturday evening, and then resuming operation this
morning at 6:00 A.M.

There is a bit of a discrepancy between the hourly wind speed
values above, and the graphically depicted wind speed potential
shown below. If we did nothing other than imagine somewhere
in the middle, it would still be “Breezy” by any standards.

If there is a functional upside, at least it ain’t -20 C, at just
around the Zero C mark, by winter numeric’s, it’s relatively
mild. There will still be significant wind chill though, so
keeping outer garment seals and overlaps well closed will
be essential to preventing wind intrusion.

Conditions Notes:

Many, many, many, big, big, and medium, and small, wild cards in
a day of post traumatic weather syndrome.

The Night-Shift grooming may have even had safety limitations
as wind speed gusts at the Summit were estimated at up to 150 KMPH.

If you tied a Cessna 172 to the Comm Tower with a rope, it would
have flown like a kite at the end of the line. Does that even begin to
consider the wild card potentials?

The saving grace is that the actual Open Trail count has risen,
a sure sign that Mountain Op’s is confident the recovery was
sufficient for safe passage.

On The Surface Of Things...

It was well above Zero C, with a screaming wind,
now the Summit is sub-zero C again and it’s still
windy, so you can expect that there may be slick
or icy zones.

Absolute caution with speed is necessary on all
initial descents and this point is applicable to all
Skill Levels. Mountain Crews typically prioritize
Green/Beginner, then Blue/Intermediate terrain,
so everyone out today may be well advised to
default down one challenge level until you can
confirm safe handling within your skill set.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
