The First New Sector Since Opening Day...
Versant Soleil OPEN On Progressive Status.

Why Are We Showing You This Nansen Opening Day
Trail Sample From A Week Ago?
Choose From The Following:
(You get 5 Gold Stars for intelligence if you get the correct answer...)
A) It is a very good example of “Day-1” New Trail conditions sampling.
B) This is a forecast prediction of the trail surface you may expect to
see on the Progressive Opening of Versant Soleil, trails # 40, Franc Sud,
to trail # 95, Algonquin.
C) A week ago we wrote we’d had an accidental tumble with a severe
left ankle sprain and this is a example of the first POV seen from
ground level after the crash.
D) All of the above.
Regarding the points above on an individual basis:
A) - This is indeed a wonderful sample of typical Day-1 groomed
trail openings at Tremblant. Absolutely superb smoothness with
wall-to-wall full dimensional width. Tremblant guests have been
spoiled with this kind of exceptional quality for many, many years
but... We do not take it for granted and our appreciation for the
fabulous work of Mountain Crews is genuine and sincere each
and every new time we get experience this kind of opening excellence.
B) - When this Soleil descent path is shown with “Groomed” icons,
we expect the new surfaces to be very similar Day-1, with an
initial mixed particle size that reflects the machine processing
characteristics of blended natural and blown snow into one
continuous surface of roughly almost 5 Kilometres. It will
respond immediately to skier/boarder use during the course
of the day, and it will respond very favourably with the first
overnight grooming shift to evolve a very much finer granular
consistency.
C) - A week ago we had an accident, not the fault of the surfaces,
it was an instantaneous edge-catch that caught us off-balance
and generated a tumbling “Hooked-Tip, Back-Flip”, resulting
in a severe left ankle sprain injury for which we have been off
for the past week, and will be off the Mountain for at least another
two weeks. As we wrote last week... “Oooop’s Happens.” Sorry about that...
D) Correct Answer.
Further to Point “B” from above: Below is a sample from the Versant Soleil
Opening of Algonquin last year/season @ 12.14.19:
We think there is a very high probability of Algonquin looking
just about exactly like this today...

Weather Notes:
What we see here is the very high potential for the end
of “Fall” temperature oscillations and the firm establishment
of a “Winter” pattern as evident by the 14 day long range outlook.
Considering that Dec. 21 is the first official day of winter, that’s
a both a handy coincidence, and an expected trend.
Conditions Notes:
The drop in temps is still on the border of the freezing mark
with a very gradual decline during open hours so it is not
what we would call a “Hard Freeze” where the temps might
drop 10 C below Zero or more in hours. This very much more
gradual temp. drop means that during open hours there should
still be a tendency towards softer, spring-like surfaces, however
air stratification that’s cooler over Mountain Elevations could mean
variable cooling and gradual solidification over the vertical span of
the trail network. In other words, another day of “Wild Cards”, although
they may be subtle, and very gradual throughout the evolving day.
With the default of “Smooth” across the groomed range, all the
other consequences of temperature become easier, especially
with such a gradual temp change, but... because that handful
of potential degree change is right at Zero C, and moving down
there could be tipping points within, or between the open sectors
that are unique. This means that you should expect the possibility
of firm or icy bits to evolve if the typical spread of -4C cooler
temps at elevations holds true.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
(

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
