There were portions of Tremblant that were quite near flawless today.

We think our forecast for upgraded trail surface stability was
borne out in the majority of reality as evident in the above
picture. Versant Nord/North Side Green P’tit Bonheur was a
multi-skill-level joy. There was no one on it, so we were able
to easily execute full-tilt carving mode over it’s satin smooth,
grippy, totally reliable, quite near flawless descent without so
much as a defective single square inch. A Beginner would have
been equally as happy with very forgiving and good glide factors
here that just cried out “Easy” at the very same time.

However...(a):

It was not all free glide, there were some higher
friction zones, but even they were mostly all smooth
so it just made the steeper pitches easy, and we did
one Lowell Thomas lap using Rigodon, in 4 minutes
at a good clip, but with a natural speed control that
literally offset gravity for a surprising amount of fun!

However...(b):

This will give you a pretty good idea why there
won’t be too many pic’s from today...

Foggy snow fog, plus heavy snowfall, sometimes all at once,
with a side order of sleety airborne “mistsy” stuff, sometimes
with everything at once...

In our original post below, we wrote:

"we would consider any delay in trail refinement to be a very
happy problem if it was for the reason of a ton new snow
arriving during open hours."

Guess what???... That’s exactly what happened...

Even then, we want to underscore the fact that there
were many sectors of superb refinement that were
all-day durable. Here’s another sample below.

Tomorrow... Cool, but also very cool high performance
skiing, proportional/appropriate, across all skill levels.

Building, Building, Building....

Tremblant Mountain Crews Are Working
With Mother Nature To Secure Both Quality
And Durability For The Future Of The Season.

There are many examples of this “Building” concept
and all you need to do is look at the snowmaking icons
on the Official Trail Status Report below to see where
they are today.

What we suspect is that the very long range weather
indicators may show some warmer than average spring
season time periods and all of this massive and ongoing
effort is a proactive strategy for long term durable quality.

Even if we were wrong on the exact reasons, the net effect
would be the same. Not only will this ongoing development
work add to the durable quality by simply increasing the
thickness/depth of the groomed base, but in doing so
we think there is also an intangible, but significant benefit
in the formation of a thicker “Blanket” of insulation over the
trail network that may in future act to seal in the thermal
transfer of frost that is currently being injected into the mass
of the Mountain by all these super-cool overnights.

All stored frost penetration into the bedrock of the Mountain
acts as a future time-release refrigerant. The deeper the frost,
the longer the time-release. This can be a critically important
factor in the late stages of the season, so it makes total sense
to us that anything that could possibly retain or enhance its
durability is worthy of all the effort that can be practically made.

One Example Of A Reopening Trail:

The process of trail renewal/refreshment is an ongoing
process and it should be noted that we are seeing some
major trails reopening. The one example we would like to
feature today is the newly reopened Versant Sud/South Side,
Trail # 12, Erik Guay, pictured below. Formerly known as
“Grand Prix”, this is a local favourite and it has been the
subject of a closed snowmaking operation for several days.
With all the new snow blended in for a finished product,
it should be both, in very fine to excellent condition, as
well as a very popular choice.

Weather Notes:

This has been a very cool, much cooler than average stretch
of weather and it looks like it’s going to keep on that way
for at least 10 days to 2 weeks. It will be great for ski conditions,
more of a challenge for dressing. Get out every layer ya got....

Conditions Notes:

We think that today will show some significant increases
in overall compaction rates within the groomed array
because of the effects of multiple passes over what was
the originally soft depths of the 30cm’s that came the
day before yesterday.

It is very common to experience escalating consistency
in all-day retained smoothness and mogul resistant density
in the days following a large, single snowfall event.

We are hopeful that with the increase in surface density
there may also be more enhanced speed in the surfaces
that have been prone to higher levels of friction. This
may be most noticeable in the ease of glide coming off
pitches where traversing plateaus seems faster. If that
happens, our Snowboard friends will be happy because
it will mean fewer occasions where taking a foot out
may be necessary.

The evidence of any, or all of that may be offset to some
variable degrees by the speed and volume of the forecasted
new snowfall for today though, so we would consider any
delay in trail refinement to be a very happy problem if it was
for the reason of a ton new snow arriving during open hours.

Additionally we think the open trail count may rapidly
climb towards the weekend. Considering that the open
number got up to 84 before 35cm’s of new snow, you
have to think that once it’s all processed, there should
be a good jump up in the not-too-distant future.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste and Un-Groomed, all you
need to do is recognize the significance of the Edge Sector
being the first 100%, fully opened Tremblant sector for the
season, since yesterday.

Just A Reminder:

The Open Trail Count Could Change Multiple
Times When There Are “Dynamic” Conditions.

Please Note: The Versant Nord/North Side Duncan Quad is out
of service for a scheduled maintenance. This cable was replaced
last summer and requires a tightening now that is routine after
its initial service period. Opening is rescheduled for 1/19/22.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
