T360 Late Evening Apres Ski Edit @ 11:53 P.M.

We wrote earlier about the potential grooming
refinements that occur with typical seasonal
development with the example of trail # 65, Banzai,
below as an example that is currently a Black
mogul zone. Grooming typically occurs in this
area when there is abundance of natural snow,
and as we are at 100/102 open trails, it may be
no coincidence that these refinements could
become possible. If and when they do, we
recognize that as a symbolic attainment of
“The Fullness Of Seasonal Maturity”. Keep an
eye on the groomed list for this one in the
future.

It was Sunday, and the warmest(if you compare recent mornings),
it’s been in several days, so it was a busy day on the Mountain.
However... even though the parking lot at P.Nord/North was quite
full, by shortly after lunch, you can see by the shortness of the line
to the Duncan Quad, that the crowds from earlier were already
substantially reduced.

Even warmer tomorrow, up to a balmy -13 C ???, with more snow... Nice!!!

and not to mention that it’s a work-week Monday, so no real crowd to speak of.

The Best Of Both Worlds.

Today You Get All The Easy Warm, Plus, You Get All The Cool Snow.

Here is a Version 2 of our “Proof Of Snow” from January 19 showing
exactly the same moment the seasonal total became what it still is
this morning, 254cm’s. The coolness of the peak -30’s overnight
Polar Vortex that influence performance excellence is still there
in the surface layers of the trails, but todays ambient atmospheric
air temp STARTS at +24C warmer, so there’s your “Best Of Both Worlds”.

Additionally, for the benefit of Sous Bois/Hors Piste fans,
if you look at the tree behind and to the right of the vertical ski,
you can see a good example of the random ability of Mother
Nature to put big piles of snow in or over places that you might
not suspect. The wind and drifting have shaped some really
outstanding drift deposits in the open bush zones, so for
those willing to explore you may still find some unusually
deep spots just waiting for your discovery.

We also think there is even more potential for future
examples of grooming refinements in zones like this
proof of snow area, as historically, it is only when the
snowpack begins to build to these levels, that trails
like Versant Nord/North Side #’s 64/Marie-Claude
Asselin, 65/Banzai, and ultimately 66/Le Tunnel, ever
get groomed, as they are not supported by snowmaking
and rely totally on natural snow accumulations for the
reserves necessary to be groomed.

Weather Notes:

All You Need To Know...

Starts Off At +24C WARMER Than Yesterday!

We would also like to point out that the “Partially Sunny”
indications in the hourly forecast are incorrect, at least
so-far, and at first tracks, it is overcast and snowing.

For a true insight into the complexity of the weather
that has been happening recently, you should review
the Weather Notes of the past several days, however
we now find ourselves in a bit of an up/down/up temp
cycle which is the consequence of a concentration of
frontal influences converging over Tremblant as shown
below.

As these fronts pass over we think this is the effect you
can see in the oscillating temp ranges for the next 3 days
of the 14 day long rage outlook.

Conditions Notes:

Our forecast for the combination of the daily temp range,
plus the additional grooming cycle over the very well
chill-stabilized and compacted base, is:

Superb excellence across the entire catalogue of listed
groomed trails.

It is always our theory that as temps rise within sub-zero C
ranges, conditions seem to become better in terms of inherent
levels of sustained glide and natural speed capabilities, so in
our opinion there is some outstanding potential in todays
conditions. We feel that will be apparent over all open, groomed
terrain, but....

Depending on the ratio of sun to cloud, there may be more
or less thermal influence on the Versant Sud/South Side
and Soleil Sectors, however, we think it's going to be just cool
enough to resist any significant increase in internal humidity,
and just warm enough to facilitate enhanced glide between
skis and snow.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste and Un-Groomed categories
we think there will be more than enough thermal momentum
from the recent sequence of very cold days to retain the
feather-lightness of the snowpack where ever it can still
be found as relatively lightly traveled over the past few days
because the cold has just kept the traffic on the low side. For
those reasons we think bushwhackers are still going to be
able to find fresh lines here and there, but it may take some
extra effort to get out to the fringes where they may exist.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
