A Really “Unusual” Sort Of Day,
But No Question About Great Skiing!

Welcome to Tremblant and “Hello” from your
new best friends on the Mountain, the unique
Tremblant “Info.Ski” Crews that can be found
at their Summit main station, right off the Gondola,
as well as all over the Mountain. On a day like
today where there can be possible “Dynamic”
(read “changeable”), conditions affected by
wind or temp’s, or both, consulting with the
Info. Ski crews is a huge asset for optimizing
your day. They are “Radio Controlled” and
consequently have the very latest, up to the
minute intel.
Weather Notes:
“Whacky"
The whackiest component of this profile is definitely
the wind. From significant initial wind-chill to an
eventual blow dryer on “Turbo”, the wind is going
to be a dominant influence that has a high degree
of probability of affecting comfort and potentially,
as stated in the Official Trail Status, lift operations.
Whatever you have on to accommodate First Tracks,
is going to be too much by near noon, so here’s
another reason to never buy any exterior jacket without
torso/underarm zippered vents, ever. You can get
away with an arctic parka all day if you can open up
the torso venting when things heat up.

Conditions Notes:
An Entire Seasonal Profile, In One Day...
From -19C, rising up to +4C is a +23C spread. Wow. Crossing
over the freezing mark ever-so-slightly is going to make for
a most unique and “unusual” day. The best potential saving
grace for the Alpine Trail Network is the typical -4C elevation
differential, however, the least favourable potential is the wind.
As long as the ambient air temp remains below Zero C, we should
be good, but if it’s warmer, sooner, surfaces may rapidly take
on some “Spring-Like” characteristics in the closing phase.
Regardless, because of the “cool” position we’re coming from,
we do not think it should be anything other than great skiing
today with some atmospheric drama that may seem a bit distracting.
In the groomed array, there should be nothing but excellence
and easy, becoming(up to a point)..., more excellent, and more
easy. However, the change from anything other than excellent
is a tiny bit dependant on the final temp during Open hours.
We do not actually think it will change at all because of Thermal
Momentum, a term we use to describe the residual chill in the hill
from weeks and weeks of -20’sC, down into the -30’sC overnights
that quite simply has not gone anywhere.
In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste and Un-Groomed, it is largely
a carry-over from previous reports as we have not had
new snow recently, so there is less skill level forgiveness
and “Expert” is a legitimate requirement for safety.
As mentioned yesterday, some of the final rounds of
grooming refinements that have been typical and
expand the Intermediate access to what we might
call entry-level Expert steepness have not yet occurred
so we will continue to monitor the Un-Groomed category
for those in future reporting.
