Up until 2:00 P.M. or so, maybe a bit overcast, but
a wonderful continuation of the superb quality of
all recent days since the last big snowfall.

Beyond mid-afternoon, things may change and...

It may be a risky prediction, and certainly there could
be a considerable degree of distinction between base
ground levels and Summit elevations, but with an
indicated Resort level high temp at -2C, there is
some probability that over the typically cooler by -4C
Alpine Trail Network, any, most of, hopefully all,
precipitation over the Mountain during later open
hours today could be snow.

We could be wrong. This could be a classic “Tipping Point”
scenario where by one degree either warmer or cooler in
the actuality of the day, the outcomes could be 180 degrees
apart in terms of desirability for ski/board conditions.
We think the best case for snow starts with the forecast
at -2C.

We also need to point out that we do not regard freezing rain
as anything other than a very temporary inconvenience because
it is not erosive like liquid rain. Yes, it coats things, and you
might get a wet butt from lift seats, but... out on the trails
it just gets broken up into fine particles and becomes part
of the top layer mix.

Weather Notes:

For the ski conditions reporting, we need to draw a line
between open hours and Apres Ski as separate time periods
with different consequence, however, we are not nearly as
concerned with the latter because Mountain Crews have
the entire night-shift to mitigate any effects of the potential
freezing rain and/or rainy bits.

---------------- 9:55 P.M Insert Update: -------------------

With the dismount of the Gondola cabins Tremblant
Mountain Op’s has anticipated significant freezing
rain accumulation. The proactive actions observed
below are the very best way to minimize the effects
of this form of precipitation on the main Versant
Sud/South Side Gondola for first tracks tomorrow.

Conditions Notes:

Within the listed Groomed terrain we think the
Skiing/Boarding for today is going to be an
extension of yesterdays excellence for just about,
if not all, of the entire span of open hours.

Ignoring the atmospheric component for a moment,
there is nothing in the temp profile to suggest anything
other than the clinical excellence in smoothness and
natural speed that is already there.

As we wrote yesterday, the base quality is the result
of over 12.5 feet/3.8 metres of seasonal snowfall so
far, and with big numbers like that accumulating well
before the end of the month of February, the overall
coverage is fully and completely at a peak of seasonal
maturity.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste and Un-Groomed, the real
benefit is to the outright Sous Bois/Hors Piste where
3.8 metres/12.5 feet of natural snowpack has obvious
advantage.

What we also want to draw attention to is the nature
of the Un-Groomed which technically has a split-personality.
The reason we identify this split-personality is because
there is a another category/sub-set within this group that
are “Recently Groomed”, and have new snowfall moguls
on top of a very smooth foundation. Here is an example:
Trail # 65, Versant Nord/North Side Banzai.

An examination of this example is absolutely critical to
understanding our concept of this trail and it’s adjacent,
parallel mates, # 64/MCA, i.e, Marie-Claude Asselin, and
#66, Le Tunnel, as case study samples of the ultimate and
final round of seasonal grooming refinements typical in
recent decades at Tremblant, plus, the concept of “recently
groomed”, as they show with mogul icons only on the Official
Trail Status below, but they were only groomed for the first time
this season several days ago.

Technically, these are Expert Black Diamond trails, and from
their opening au natural way back weeks and weeks ago, they
were “knarly” heavily mogul’d with deep, sharp trough’s and
a lot of rocky hazards.

By grooming them, instantly all the voids over the original
deep moguls were filled in with snow harvested by the
groomer outer blade wings that moved snow into and
over the cut-up trail centres. This has generated a technically
superb foundation over which new snow has fallen that is
then left to become moguls, but now over the critically
important smooth base.

The result is outstanding. These runs can now be fully appreciated
by a X10 greater range of skill levels without fear of unpredictable
hazard, and... with enjoyment and focus on developing technique
for steepness challenge within one of the most beautiful natural
winter scenery settings on Planet Earth. No camera invented so
far can capture the beauty within this zone, but you can go there
now with confidence and see it for yourself because it was
“Recently Groomed”.

We call these 3 trails the “Canaries In The Coal Mine” as
indicators of ultimate seasonal refinements and if we are
really, really lucky, we may get to even see Le Tunnel
groomed which would be the absolute pinnacle of the
entire concept.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
