3/21/22 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Middle Of The Night Shift Apres Ski Edit At 1:01 A.M.

Things started with a surprising amount of soft, groomed excellent
smoothness and ended up becoming quite firm everywhere with the
drop in temp’s to sub-zero C. All things considered after 2 days
of “Hot” with “Wet” though, it was a fantastic reset over a completely
stable pre-existing base, especially with the expansion of the open
trail count from 79 to 90.

The performance quality was very similar over all open Mountain sectors.
There were some different rates of consolidation between Sud/South and
Nord/North, but by after lunch, virtually all sides were very similar underfoot.
The windy component was a different thing. The Sud/South was definitely
“Breezy”... the Nord/North was considerably more sheltered. Please note
the small but noticeable accumulation of snow shown below in the upper
Nord/North trees which is an excellent sign of the cool new snow on the ground.

We were going to throw this one below away because of the obvious
soft focus, but... it does illustrate the majority of the performance
characteristics within the loose top layers.

The snow surfaces went from 98% humidity to just about Zero % in
less than 18 hours with the drop in temps to Sub-Zero C’s. What we
ended up with is a very course granular composition that was very
skiable and very fast. It built small moguls but they were totally dry
so they had very little frontal resistance and they were easy to blast
through, almost as if they were not even there.

Tomorrow... Sunny and temps rising from early -6C to -2C, more mild winter.

Lots more in the morning, but the summary remains that after
a couple of hot, wet spring days, it was a great little winter reset.

An Essential Sub-Zero C, Snowfall, Reset.

Regarding yesterday...

There were some rainy bits at ground levels, but up on
the cooler Mountain elevations, it was mostly just cloud
foggy and... there were periods where it snowed big, fat,
wet, wonderful snowflakes.

For sure, every one without a Descente Poncho may have gotten wet
because the atmospheric cloud-mist, some semi-snowy-drizzle, plus
the big, fat, wet snowfall all combined to plaster everyone, but hey...
it’s the third week of March, so welcome to Official Spring!

We are at that stage in the season where the Open Trail list can
change through quite a range up/down during the course of passing
days, sometime even passing hours.

As a result, it is in your best interests to check with Mountain
Info.Ski Crews frequently for updates and/or how to optimize
your skills or trail type preferences to the available open terrain.

Conditions Notes:

The inevitable consequence of warm spring weather is evident
in the Official open trail list, but it does not necessarily mean
that everything closed today is finished for the season. Many
of the closures should be temporary, and while some of those
could be dependant on favourable future weather and snowfall,
there are very good statistical chances of re-openings, especially
as Mountain Crews process surfaces in the upcoming days.

For today, there should be very fine freshly groomed corduroy
for miles and miles, kilometres and kilometres, plus... it’s
a Monday, work and school week, so the traffic should be
really light and we think that the corduroy of this morning may
well last throughout the day, and if we’re lucky, we may even
see more open trails.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
